Kath Loves Wine
What a FUN night!! But I definitely went overboard on the wine, which meant I went overboard on the food too. Alcohol is definitely one of my triggers for losing sight of my healthy eating goals. They say when eaters have variety they eat more than when they have just one item on their plate. The same applies to me with wine (and dessert). Each table had 5 different types of wine, and as a wine lover, I wanted to try them all. Not so smart!
From The Beginning…
The Rock Quarry was gorgeous!
So was the setting, although it poured down rain right before we arrived, so things were a little soggy.
Glass #1 – a Russian River Pinot

With our good friend Whizzle (Whitney)!!
I had 3 cheese and crackers during cocktail hour. The Gouda was SUPERB.
And about 5 strawberries, which are grown on the farm that owns the quarry
They grilled salmon and steaks right before us. It smelled heavenly!
More vino! I tried to keep my pours small, but I’d say I probably had 6-7 of these size glasses, probably 3-4 real glasses of wine?
Dinner was SO delicious. The salmon had a caper-butter sauce and was grilled perfectly. The asparagus was also grown on the farm, as was the lettuce. I also had cantaloupe, some bread, squash and 2 potatoes.
For dessert they had strawberries over pound cake and cheesecake brownies. I got one of each to share with the husband, but he was full of steak and only took 2-3 bites, so I ate most of both of these 😳 Luckily they weren’t huge.
But then………I had some more when Matt went to get some more for the table!
The Matt’s do look alike here!
The Worst Part
When we got home, the husband and I found these in our freezer (actually I found them the other day but remembered them last night!) I ate one PLUS some peanut butter PLUS part of a scone!! Argh. That’s what wine does to me.
Luckily I’m up this morning with only a slight headache and that “wine in my blood” feeling. And I’m feeling much better after a cup of tea. After some breakfast, we’ve got plans for a gym trip and lunch before we head back up to Davidson for more festivities. See you in a bit!
Romina says
Haha, wine munchies!!
Lauren says
sounds like a really fun night!! 🙂
hk says
Such a beautiful setting! Mmmm fresh-grown strawberries, SO jealous!! Have fun today 🙂
Suzanne says
The food looks so delicious and healthy. All the functions you go to always seem to have a very healthy selection. Well, it’s also probably because you choose the healthy choices as well. 🙂
I’m so happy to see that you had a dessert splurge! I always wondered how you had such great self control! Now I know the weakness – wine! haha… But you do so well almost all of the time, a dessert splurge is well-dserved!
Kelly L. says
What a normal splurge! Looks like you had a great time!
Bev says
you sound like me……LOVE WINE Great pictures . enjoy your weekend
Sarah says
look at your arm in the picture with you and the husband!! All your hard work at the gym is definitely paying off—you look FANTASTIC : )
Betsy says
the setting for the dinner looks really cool and sounds like a blast!
Deb says
I can totally relate to the wine munchies. Happens to me when I have more than one glass. Derails my diet. I wondered how little I COULD lose if I gave up alcohol for a month. I did that in January and guess what…gained!! Argh! KMN!
Bev says
The dress and shoes… love them . Where did you buy them ? Ann Taylor ?
Erin says
I was going to comment on your guns, too! Lookin’ good!
Kate says
I do the wine muchie thing too, which is why I (like you) usually stick to one small glass!
Glad you had fun. You guys look great!
Kate says
Looks like splurging’s in the air! Glad you had fun Kath – you looked great!
Stacy says
I can totally relate. After a 2 martini sushi dinner I had no self control left when it came to ice cream for dessert. I did stick to the smallest serving size and didn’t finish, but I definitely wasn’t hungry when I started. Goes to show what a little alcohol can do to our self control 🙂
jenna says
hahahahahaha!!! Kath you crack me up! That picture of you is so cute! Looks like you had a great night…wine is my weakness too!!
BethT says
Yum! Dang, who put on that party – the college?
Maria says
Just wanted to say that I think it’s lovely that the Husband’s mom came for celebratory events for your sister’s grad! So nice to see in-laws that get along so well, and something I hope for one day. 🙂
VeggieGirl says
Haha, that first photograph is priceless :0D Looks like it was a fun event – glad everyone enjoyed themselves!!
Wow, the Rock Quarry IS gorgeous!!
Have a wonderful time up at Davidson!
Esther says
Jeez Kath, your ripped! And the husband looks pretty thin (no offense), i think you could take him 🙂
Erin D. says
That first picture looks like me almost every Friday night! Well, not EVERY Friday, but more than I should 🙂
JessieP says
what is the light rail you talk about Kath? is that like a subway?
Chelsea says
Remember when **Completely Sober** you would eat peanut butter right out of the jar?!?!?!
Just thought I’d remind you that you’ve made huge strides and not to beat yourself up too much.
Look at it this way, you were enjoying wine for me too since I can’t have any! =D
Hannah says
Cute dress and beautiful setting! Everything you ate looks fresh and delicious and I’m sure it was totally worth it. A trip to the gym always helps the next day!
Sidi says
Ha, ha, I knew it was great. And a little bit more wine from time to time is just what it takes to make the night great.
That salmons makes me so hungry.
LT says
Kath, that’s really cool that you were eating the food right where it was grown….notice any difference in taste or freshness?
Healthyfitgirl says
Kathy, before you head to such events do you eat a snack or do you figure that you will end up eating more than usual and just not eat that much, if not at all?
Kiala Kazebee says
Whoohoo! That’s the Kath I wanted to see.
Good girl.
Becca says
Haha, the first photo definitely shows it was a fun night. Definitely great choices for a splurge night though!
Kath says
Thanks for all the nice comments guys!
Bev,
Yes, dress is LOFT.
BethT ,
It wasn’t college sponsored and we had to buy tickets. I think parents of the senior class put it on? But it’s a tradition each year and lots of families go.
JessieP ,
Yeah, the lightrail is just like you’d think – above-ground mass transit. We just got our first line here in Charlotte that opened in Thanksgiving and we live just over a mile from it, which is so convenient to go Uptown.
Chelsea ,
I think I drank enough to cover you all 9 months 🙂
LT,
The strawberries were extra delicious, but it does help that they’re in peak season too!
Healthyfitgirl ,
I answered your question in your email 🙂

Hi Kath,
I agree with the above post that your husband looks so thin! Not any of my business of course, but I think he could eat a lot MORE!!!
He looks very thin.
Sammy says
I hope there was a veterinarian at the function,….(wait for it, wait for it) because your pythons are sick (insert flexing muscles, etc.). Sorry, couldn’t resist. Anyone else have to put up with crap like that from the “hilarious” boys at the gym? (tickets to the gun show….how many times….*shakes head*)
Also, I don’t know quite how to discreetly discuss on the net, but while alcohol munchies are one thing….let’s talk harold and kumar style munchies 😉 any tips or tricks there?
Erin says
If her husband’s healthy, then that’s what matters. It looks like he eats well. It’s not like she’s starving him or something!
I really don’t think he looks that thin. It’s amazing to see how a society where overweight is the majority skews people’s perceptions of what is “healthy.”
Pearl says
For me, one of the best things to do for munchies is to have healthy snacks on hand. Veggies, hummus, fruit and other “bulky” foods can take longer to eat and be very filling. Also, often when I’m stoned, I can be easily engaged in many different things (listening to music, reading, talking w/ friends, etc.), so trying to divert attention from food sometimes works. I’d love to hear other ideas too!
Deb says
Pearl…lucky you that eating “real” filling food gets rid of your munchies. For me I can be stuffed, but if I’m on a wine buzz it’s the sweets I go for. It’s the sweets AND the alcohol cals that add up. It sounds barbaric, but recently I put a little “closed” sign on our pantry where all the junk is and that seems to work shockingly!! Go figure!!
Majrhoulihan says
Is Whizzle by any chance from Long Island? She looks awfully familiar.
karla says
wow, jealous, fantastic party,…love the idea of veggies grown right there,…and you look great!
amazing arms!!
have fun tonite!
Kath says
Majrhoulihan ,
YES!!! Whizzle (Whitney) is from Long Island. Send me an email if you want to talk last names and towns 😉 So cool if you are an old friend!
