Busy morning, relaxing afternoon. I was going to work on a few business things – until Faith emailed to see if I wanted to walk on the Monticello Trail.
Change of plans!
It was GORGEOUS outside and I needed to get out there. Working now instead!
We walked straight up to Monticello’s visitor’s center and back. Love Faith!
After I got home, I whizzed to the grocery store to pick up a bunch of veggies for the week. Overflowing basket means that my backpack will be filled to the brim!
I was right – the arugula didn’t fit!
I also found this amazing Sweet Potato Pie candle at the market – it’s locally made, in an awesome reusable jar, burn-clear wax and smells amazing for $8! Can’t wait to come home with the Gingerbread next!
Matt and I celebrated the close of Tuesday business with a Flying Dog beer tasting – thanks to my KERF friends for the gift!
The Imperial Pumpkin was good, but a little too much on the porter side for me, but the Barleywine was outstanding!!!!!
Dinner tonight was simple – the last of our OSG Pumpkin Bean Cornbread Casserole and green beans sauteed in olive oil, Garlic Gold, lemon juice and candied pecans
The cornbread was by far the best part of this casserole – the beans had dried out and lost their flavor a bit. Still great though, and some of the best cornbread ever!!
Had a piece of dark chocolate afterwards, and ‘bout to settle on the couch for our nightly TV entertainment. Since having a house with a cozy basement family room and a legitimate comfortable couch, we’ve turned into total TV freaks! Can’t decide of this is good or bad..
Sana says
The cool fall weather is perfect for walks with a friend!

Ooooh I bet that candle smells SO good.
I’m so glad you’re in a place where you can walk again!! As a walk-lover myself I can completely appreciate how great that is 🙂
And yeah – we’ve turned into total TV freaks too! Let me know if you’ve decided whether or not it’s good or bad because I’m still trying to decide too 😉
Stef @ Living HI says
The smell of the candle jumped through my computer, must get fall-themed candle soon! I love that it is so sustainable, too!
Jessica says
Looks like an amazing day! I’ve long been a big fan of the Flying Dog IPA’s but will have to try the Barleywine. Enjoy the rest of your evening!

Oooh all the veggies look great! And that trail looks awesome. Nothing better than walks in the Fall.

Sweet potato pie candle? Oprah is going to snatch that up for her Favorite Things!

What a beautiful trail! I definitely would’ve opted for a walk over work too. 😉
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I love a good Fall candle–so that sounds perfect!
I am a huge fan of walks because it is lovely outside, so go ahead and enjoy it–push all responsibilities to the side 😉
Amanda says
That candle sounds great! I have a handful of scented candles, but I always forget to actually burn them. This post serves as a good reminder to dust them off. 🙂
Christie says
It’s always so good to get outdoors on a beautiful day – totally lifts the spirits.
I’ve never tried pumpkin beer, I’ve never seen it in New Zealand!! Maybe I just haven’t looked hard enough. It sounds so good!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
I wish I had gotten outside today! I had to work…boo. I can’t wait to get out this weekend. Pumpkin patch time!

In another few days I’m going to be trying that beer! (Hubby’s in Buffalo for business). I can’t wait! And don’t feel bad about the leftovers, that’s what I’m having for the next week!

Hey if it makes you happy and you look forward to the routine I say its a good thing! I’ve really grown out of the tv habit because my roommates and I are too cheap to buy cable.. and I’ve loved getting in other forms of entertainment.

Cville is so beautiful. Enjoy the Fall colors!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE perfumes, candles, etc!!! I pretty much love anything that has an AMAZING smell to it!
When it comes to our house, I am all about having it smell wonderfully, fragrant when I walk into it! There is something about a beautiful smell to a home that is very inviting!

That trail looks gorgeous! You’re lucky to live somewhere with such beautiful surroundings!

I do not blame you one bit for wanting to get outside instead of working! I made sure to head out for a little walk at lunch to get some nice, fresh, fall air! I need to find a sweet potato pie candle… 😉
Lindsay @ biking before bed says
I made the cornbread from that casserole as muffins and they turned out really dry… and a couple days later they are like rocks… did you have the same issue?
KathEats says
This was definitely a bit drier than normal, but not too dry that they are hard. I really enjoyed them
Jen says
There is nothing wrong with enjoying TV from a cozy couch during the chilly fall evenings! What are your favorites?
Christine @ Oatmeal in my Bowl says
I almost bought some of that beer this weekend. Will need to go back and pick some up. Gives me a good reason to go back to Tom’s Farm.
Love the candle. I bet they will both smell wonderfully! And how did you end up wheeling the arugula home?
BTW, love the scenic photos!
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
I live near Monticello too, but the NY version. 😀
I bet that sweet potato candle is heavenly! I typically do not care for strong perfume-y candles, but that sounds like something I could get down with. Food scented? Sign me up!
Alexa @ SimpleEats says
That candle sounds fantastic. I like all of the qualities about it…the big-company ones are usually harsh and perfume-y smelling!
Deva @ Deva by Definition says
The Boy and I like to watch shows on TLC, Discovery, and NatGeo together. We love StormChasers and Mythbusters! I don’t think that enjoying some TV at the end of the day is an issue at all!
Briana says
Great Magic Hat glass 😉 Love me some Burlington, Vermont!

I’m making a special trip to get a roasted marshmallow candle tomorrow at Bath & Body Works. Want to burn some candles together? It’ll smell like Thanksgiving!
KathEats says
I NEED that candle!! Burnt sweet potato casserole marshmallows are my fav!
Khushboo says
The scent of that candle world make mr huuungry!
Julia H. @ The Petite Spiel says
Fall food-scented candles are by far the best of any candles. Whenever I go shopping back home, I almost always stop in Yankee Candle–not to buy anything, but to just smell the candles! Last year they had one called “Be Grateful” that smelled like fall treats, and my mom bought it for me as a stocking stuffer for Christmas. Mmm mm good!
Hannah @ Sparrow + Spark! says
That candle sounds fantastic! I love all things autumn-y!
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
sweet potato candle?! yum.
i always love the way you doctor up traditional (boring) veggies. they always end up looking so delicious!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
What a gorgeous trail! I wish I had more time for walks right now… midterm season is the pits! 😛
Fran says
Some TV viewing is good for you. That way you can have discussions with other TV freaks and know what they’re talking about. I watch way too much and need to adjust that habit!! Enjoy!
faith says
Love me some Kath! 🙂

Mmmm that candle sounds amazing. My favorite fall/winter candle is Frasier Fir. It smells exactly like a christmas tree without being overwhelming or too sweet. It is seriously amazing! http://www.thymes.com/Collection.aspx?nodeid=2037
Lea @ Healthy Coconut says
We have one scheduled night for TV watching and couch lounging at my house with my husband…Wednesday nights because we love to watch Modern Family and that’s the day we use to catch up on the rest of our TV shows too.
A very comfy couch is very dangerous to have.
Amelia says
I love living in Southern California, but this post made me jealous of your fall weather!!!
Lindsay says
haha, we are tv freaks right now too…but only because Modern Family Season 2 came in the mail and we are PUMPED to rejoin Phil, Cam and the rest of the cast’s hilarious antics!
