It’s been a long time coming, but tonight, because of what we did on this day, in this election, at this defining moment, change has come to America…
…The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even one term, but America – I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you – we as a people will get there.
SO HAPPY that the best candidate won!!! I am excited to think about where our country is headed this morning. I am confident this brilliant, passionate and honest man with the help of the nation’s leaders will lead the country with dignity and grace.
I am still not sure what’s up with my state, but it looks like Obama won the popular vote by a few thousand and it was a 60/30 landslide in my county!
And as I watched his speech in this video, I swear that’s Oprah in the green shirt at 4:25, right when he mentions the new puppy for his daughters! Maybe everyone already knew that, but I felt cool for spotting her randomly on my own
To celebrate Obama’s victory, I had oatmeal this morning!
- 1/3 cup Windy Hills flax oats, vanilla hemp milk, water, pinch salt
- 1/2 med. banana
- 1/4 cup pumpkin (all that was left 🙁 )
- 1/4 cup cottage cheese
- Swirled in pumpkin butter (i’m almost out!)
- 1/4 crumbled Trail Mix Honest Foods Country Square
- Spoonful Cinnamon Honey PB
With tea (and I’m enjoying a second cup right now)

Kath, do you know if ALL fresh markets are going to carry barney butter? I would love to be able to get my hands on some while I’m here at school and the only gourmet store around is fresh market!
Beth says
lol @ judging political identity by clothing
I’m a college student in a liberal town in a conservative state, and while I can’t wait for the next 4 years, it’s so discouraging to see my fellow students’ reactions. I’ve never seen such disrespectful, literal “sore losers” in my life. I wish they could see that while it might not have turned out in their favor, the world is NOT going to end.
Krista says
Congrats to the winners!
I wish that Barney butter shipped to Canada!! Maybe one day I’ll see it on our shelves…
caitlin says
beth – i agree! we’ve had to deal with being the minority for 8 years, why can’t they do it gracefully (i.e. the boos last night during mccain’s concession speech…. i thought that was uncalled for, although i do think mccain personally handled it very well)
kath, i am very proud of YOUR state and MY state as well (florida). also, i noticed you were able to keep your opinion to yourself until this AM and i must say i was UBER impressed. 🙂
Celia says
Kath,
Do you cook the cottage cheese in your oats? And how much water to milk?
Thanks! : ) Love the blog
Sara B. says
Kath I’m soo glad you voted for Obama!!!! What an amazing night!

Congrats to all the winners! SOOO JEALOUS! 🙂

I just made pumpkin oats for the first time this morning Kath! Oh my God! Sooo Good…and on stove top, not microwave 😉
Charlie Hills says
But we shouldn’t “booo” about anything that happened last night. That’s the entire point of this election cycle. This whole US vs THEM mentality drives me bonkers more than anything else.
Like the man said, “We’re not red states and blue states, we’re the United States.” For once is it possible to just give someone a chance and let us focus on what’s important?
United we stand. Divided we fall. That sums it up.
PS says
I am thrilled! And proud to be an American (and FLoridian) today. 🙂 Here’s to hope and change!
Oh, and that was Oprah in the crowd, Kath. They showed an interview on CNN this morning from Grant Park and she had on that green jacket. She’s been a huge Obama supporter from the beginning.
Mariposa says
I’m so happy the way last night ended up!
Kath- I think people have a certain “image” of a Republican person.. Which of course is stupid.
congrats to the winners of the almond butter!!!!
zestycook says
Hey Kath – I am glad your excited. As a Canadian I was very happy to see Obama become elected last night as well. Oatmeal looks great.!

I’m also proud to be a Hoosier this morning, finally after 40 years my state went Democrat!
ChristinB says
What an awesome night! I am exhausted from staying up late to watch the speech, but it was so worth it! Go Obama!! 🙂
I second Charlie’s statement about division, the “us vs. them” etc. I hope the lines of division can become increasingly blurred as we work together for a better America – not just a richer or more powerful America – but a wiser, more benevolent America.
God bless our country and our new president!
Christina says
oh no, now we have to start all the “why can’t they lose as gracefully as we did” stuff, which is so not true. Don’t you honestly think that there were just as many “sore-loser” dems in the last 8 years, or do you really think your party has the corner on decent people? This is the stuff that frustrates me so much. Don’t say “Rebuplicans are sore-losers”…some of us aren’t. People have a right to be disappointed – like one of my favorite college professors (a guy), who was actually in tears during class after Bush was elected the first time. It didn’t make me think less of him, just how good people can have really different ideas of how to get to the places our country NEEDS to be. Just my two cents, but I had to get it out…
Cat says
Congrats to all the winners!! Wow what an historic day, can you belive it!! Our first African-American president… this is beyond monumental… To all those who voted – whether it was Obama, McCain or another candidate, there is no denying that this is a day to be remembered. Obama is both well educated and intelligent and regardless of party, everyone should now look to him with respect because he is indeed our president and I believe will do what he thinks best in ruling our country.
sirenjess says
boo, I just ordered two jars this morning and paid shipping. Oh, well for next time.
Elina (Healthy and Sane) says
I’m not commenting on all the political talk. This is a food blog, right? 😀
Thanks for hosting the Barney Butter contest. I didn’t win, but I already took advantage of the free shipping 🙂 I love the single serving packets! They are perfect to keep in the office… Can’t wait for them to start selling this stuff at WF.
Megan says
I still need to try the Honest Food Bars! Congrats to all the Barney Butter winners. I am anxious to hear what Nick thinks!
Amy C. says
Congrats to the Barney Butter winners!
I’m politically moderate and liked both candidates but I am feeling good about Obama’s win. I think it will be good for the country and with the reaction I have seen in other countries, I think it will be great for U.S. relations with other countries. It was a momentous night for us all and I am excited to see what the future brings.
Tiffany says
I was also pleased with the election results! (And I’m not even American!)
Shelly says
I live in the same neighborhood of Chicago as Obama! I’m sure the air will have a very celebratory feel to it today… 🙂
bobbi says
Great post, the election was pretty historic..and I am praying that these next four years are some of the best for our country.
I can’t believe I won!!! That’s twice now on your site, and I never win anything 🙂 This has made my whole week, I can’t wait to try Barneys!
Erin says
Yay!
I’m so proud of our country.
Lisa says
I felt so american yesterday haha! I even went to the young democrats party last night and it was pretty moving to see all those people. I’m so not a political person but Obama won me over, he seems like a genuinely good person and family man. I thought McCain gave a good speech though minus the people boo’ing.
seelee live (for the love of peanut butter) says
congrats to the winners—and Kath it looks like you are running low on foood!!! i love the opening of your post-great job.
Kelly says
I will admit I was a very sore loser in 2004 and quite happy last night. We watched the coverage at a local bar known for being the “sports bar of politics” and it was an amazing night. Beyond the fact I am inspired by Barack Obama I was so excited to see so many new and young voters coming out. While waiting in line to vote an older Asian couple mentioned that this was the first time for them and they didn’t know which line to be in, it warmed my heart. I can understand why people would be devistated about losing this year, I certainly would have been. So many of us got more involved then ever: volunteering, tuning in to every morsel of coverage, donating, talking to our friends, etc. I am exhausted and thrilled all at the same time. I was also SO excited to see that this election turned the notion of “red” and “blue” states on its head. That’s how it should be. Everyone should be empowered to vote and not feel like their state will always go a certain way, rendering their vote unimportant.
Shelby says
The best did win! I’m so excited and proud because he’s from Illinois like me =)
Ooo, I love the oats combo today…well actually all of your oat combos are amazing!
Laura says
Yay! I’m so stoked!!! 🙂 I’ve been wanting to try Barney Butter and now you’ve made it possible. Thanks!
And Yay! for last night too! I would have been happy with either one honestly. I have tons of respect for McCain, but Obama had my vote. And I’m so proud of VA for going with a democrat!
Rose says
Great contest! Congrats to all the winners!
This means I HAVE to buy Barney Butter and soon.
Maggie says
“To celebrate I had oatmeal” – hehehe. What else would you have?!?
I’m really happy too 🙂
KatieF says
Thanks to Christina for speaking up for the rest of us. 🙂 While I’m disappointed in the outcome of the election I believe that both McCain and Obama deserve our respect. I hope that Obama will lead our country in a good direction. Now, back to food… 😉
Runeatrepeat says
Ha, I would have assumed your were a Rep too. But, what do I know from way over here in an area of CA where it is SUPER liberal. I am very happy with how things turned out and I hope both sides can work together to improve our country! I am happy that you briefly mentioned your opinion of the outcome since I was curious. Your comment was tasteful, but informative 🙂
Meg says
Did you cry happy tears?? I did! So exciting to watch history unfold like that. I jumped up and down!
toodle says
I agree with KatieF. Let’s stay on the topic of food. I was disappointed with the results last night also, but I don’t want to have to quit reading this blog because it goes political.
Beth says
Christina-
haha, I can’t find anywhere in my post where I called all Republicans sore-losers. I also can’t find any place where I said all Democrats are graceful losers. That’s funny..
What I DID say was that many of my conservative classmates are reacting very immaturely to the outcome of the election. What I left out was how ironic it is to me that we attend a very selective public-college with great academic stature, and yet we are ultimately still children.
I still fail to see where I called all Republicans sore-losers. I surely hope “my conservative fellow students” are not the Republican party in its entirety, but to each his own.
Kelly L. says
Gotta support Lindsey as a Republican here. Barack Obama is a socialist. As a small business owner his policies will hurt us. His whole “change” mumbo jumbo is just talk for taking from those who bust there butts to work hard and giving it out in the form of a welfare check.
What ever happened to working for something anymore? Why should the government have to take care of you? Sorry but it’s the truth.
Biz says
Happy for the winners!
If you like spicy, www.ilovepeanutbutter.com has a fiery peanut butter!
They sell it at a SuperTarget about 30 minutes from me, and I am pretty sure that’s worth the trip!
WendyF says
I am celebrating today with Pumpkin oats as well. My fianace’s birthday was yesterday so we went to our favorite resturant and arrived home just in time for the final results and speeches. It was a perfect birthday
Cyclist Kate says
Hey Kath, I could tell you were liberal! Must have been all the biking and meeting Bill Clinton when you were little talk.
I’m also super, super happy this morning. So excited to see what the next four years bring!
I understand what it’s like to be in the losing party, though, and I get that it can be a big bummer, especially the first few days. Let’s just give it some time to cool off, right? We’ve been arguing over this stuff for years, and I think we all deserve a little break!
I’ve gotta pick up some pumpkin butter!
madison (follow my weigh) says
lol celebrating with oatmeal…i guess its a celebration every morning in your house =D
ashley (sweet & natural) says
Last night was a big night in the history of our country and I felt proud to have been a part of it. My little sister was actually at Grant Park for Obama’s speech last night – which I thought was so cool!
runjess says
Such an exciting night for our country. Obama did not win my state, but I was so not surprised (Texas).
Runnershigh says
I do think it is tactless to boo when your candidate (McCain) is making an emotional and gracious concession speech. Do I think that behavior is emblematic of all republicans? Absolutely not.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Kath. I strongly support Obama–not so much for his rhetoric, but because I believe his intellect and temperament will guide us through these difficult times. GOBAMA!
Teddy says
I live in TX now but in Austin, Obama had 66% of the vote… YAY!!
and YAY for prop 2 passing in CA… that’s a huge deal to me too 🙂
Teddy
jess says
I’m glad that you’re happy about the election- I think it will definitely be change and I’m excited to see where are country is going to go!!! In a quick, non food related, question- have you always liked the number six? Why, in particular? I know you got married on that date; any other reasons?
Oh She Glows says
It was such an exciting night!! I am so happy that the best candidate won 😀 I live in Toronto and I still stayed up waaay past my bedtime to watch the excitement.
Congrats to the winners of the contest! I am jealous 😀
Amanda says
Kath,
I’ve been DYING to know what your politics are! Hehe – good job staying neutral for so long. Have a happy day, I know I am!
– Amanda
Ryane says
While the economy is certainly a huge issue of concern for the US right now, it wasn’t going to the only deciding factor in who I voted for.
I understand the “socialist for change” jabs, and while I don’t entirely agree in going that direction… there was NO way ethically or morally I could’ve voted for McCain (and his partner who will become one of our nation’s biggest jokes ever).
I honestly believe that just the single fact that Obama has been voted into office, that people around the country will start making better decisions with their finances and such on their own. People have felt defeated hopeless for too long. Sometimes just knowing somebody has your back or needs in mind, gives you that extra step to do better, live better, think better.
I do have a real question though, Kath!! Haha.
I mixed some cottage cheese into my oats yesterday… and while I didn’t hate it… I wasn’t in love exactly. I don’t notice in your bowls the lumpy curds or anything – do you do anything differently? Use the whipped kind instead?
BUT I also bought regular cottage cheese this week. Usually I buy the salt-free… so maybe that would be better (my oats was pretty sweet this morning!).
OH and how long is the free shipping promo going on??
Sara says
This is an amazing time to live in. I’m so excited today!
BethT says
Oh come on naysayers, this isn’t going to turn into a political blog. Kath has done a great job of keeping things neutral; why not discuss the results? Whether you were for Obama or against, everyone should feel thankful to live in a country that FINALLY stepped up to the plate, set aside political apathy and exercised a right that citizens in many countries would die to have.
Katie Mc says
Hey Kath, Would you be willing to post your hospital and or healthy school lunch menus that you wrote for your nutrition class. I’m really interested in what you came up with. If not, no worries. Thank you.
Rae says
Thanks Kath!! Cant wait!!
Sally says
I am so excited for Obama and for our country! Last night was truly amazing. Unfortunately, the CA Prop 8 results are taking the wind out of my sails this morning.
BethT says
Sally, me too 🙁 Are you in CA? I was so hopeful.
Christina says
Beth – I was responding to more than just you, so while I am glad you find me humorous (pretty condescending), you should take that into account.
My point was that it is bound to be disappointing and of course SOME people are going to act in ways that are less than graceful – I just wanted to point out that people were saying the same thing about the dems when they lost, so I don’t really find it very surprising. Also, it’s very frustrating that a select few can give a bad impression of an entire party and I was trying to point out that this was unfair. But I’m probably older than you, so maybe this is the first time you’re seeing it and you are certainly entitled to stating your opinion. I probably came across too strong, which I wasn’t intending to do.
I think Cyclist Kate has the right idea when she says losing is a big bummer and to give people a few days to cool off…she probably said it better than I did in the second part of my post. I can already see some definite good that will come from an Obama presidency, so here’s to hoping that we can all see the good intentions of the other side and agree to disagree on some of the other things. 🙂
Mel says
Congrats to all the winners! Thanks for the info on the free shipping, I think I’ll have to take advantage of it.
Susan says
I, too, got a little teary-eyed over Obama winning. More than anything, I’m just relieved that he won. On the flip side, Saturday Night Live would have been rockin’ with Tina Fey’s impressions of Sarah Palin! Can you imagine the great material that would have generated–and for 4 years?!
melissa iwai says
I know this is a food blog, and I’m sure it will go back to focussing on food and health sans politics, but yesterday was a momentous day and deserved to be commented on. I’m so proud of my country today. And I have faith we can move forward and become a stronger, united nation. Thanks Kath, for sharing–this is too big a moment to be NOT talked about!
Kinder says
Yay to the nutter butter winners!
And Yay to Obama winning!
As a Canadian, I was moved to tears to see the majority of Americans embrace change.
Here’s to a change for the better!
EllCee says
I did not vote Obama but respect his win and his really, really well-run campaign. We will all just have to see what happens. He is so charismatic that people are looking past the fact his resume is blank, which I find interesting. Not to say he won’t do some good, though… and you have to admit this is all pretty exciting.
Anyways I am just glad that it looks like Al Franken will lose. Can’t stand that guy. Haha 🙂
Santa Barbara Dreaming says
History in the making! woo hoo!
I hope you enjoyed your celebratory bowl of oatmeal 🙂
Congrats to the Barney Butter winners. I hope one day I will be lucky enough to come across a jar 🙂
Dale says
I too had been curious about your political persuasion Kath! Good job and thank you for remaining “neutral” during the election.
I wish I could share your excitement for the future of our country; however more than anything right now I feel a fear of where we are heading. I don’t think Obama is a bad person, nor do I think he will be a bad leader. And I’m sure in 4 short years (maybe 8) he won’t change the country in a drastic way.
My fear is what it has been for many years – that slowly but surely morality will be pushed farther and farther from the core of our values as American people. And as that happens, things will only get worse. I encourage all of you who are thrilled to see Obama in office, and those of you who aren’t, to keep praying for the future of our country! Never have we needed it more, regardless of who our President is!
ray says
it’s funny to read the comments. i hope our country can boxing people into liberalism/conservatism based on which religion they follow, or what they wear, or how often they eat organic food. it is disheartening to think that people base their vote on trend–be it republican or democrat. it is critical that people are truly informed. i am a tree hugger, aperson of faith who is anti-death penalty but pro-life. i dont agree with the war, but i do believe in finishing what we started (and doing it well). i am pro-environment, but also pro-us based jobs and less foreign dependence. i am pro-helping the needy and poor, i am pro-minority rights, but i think that the government has been historically inefficient and wasteful. that being said–i don’t know which box i would fit in according to modern, american thought!
Ellen says
hehe about the oprah comment.. my sister was THERE last night, in chicago, to hear obama’s speech. she walked right passed oprah! her only comment was that she was awfully short. if you ask me, any one who isn’t thrilled with the outcome is just stuck in that negativity that will only hold our country back. here in seattle, people were partying in the streets :]
Kath says
Biting my tongue…..,
Meghan ,
I do think it’s all Fresh Markets starting in January.
Celia ,
It says 1/3 cup each of water and milk in the post. I stir in the cottage cheese at the end just to heat it through.
jess ,
You must have missed my birthday extravaganza!! I was born on 10.26 and I love all combinations of those numbers. The 6.2 wedding date was intentional 🙂
Ryane ,
I do stir mine in pretty well. I just use regular cottage cheese – I believe it’s Cabot fat free? Do you like the brand you used plain? I find that cottage cheese brands vary a lot.
Katie Mc,
I’ll email them to you if you’d like. Just shoot me an email.
Kath
caitlin says
hahah kath good call on biting you tongue. i’ve been wanting to respond to a variety of comments on your blog but then i remember – WE WON! I don’t have to defend myself anymore!!! CAUSE WE WON! YIPPPPPPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
polly says
Hi Kath! I did not vote Obama and don’t agree with most of his political views, but he has my respect as our President and we’ll see what happens!
Now…. the good stuff… beautiful oatmeal and yahoo for peanut butter! 🙂 xoxo
Kelly L. says
Well said Dale. Kath- if you have an opinion voice it.
JennC says
i respect everyone’s decisions. but a few things to know about politics in general…
did you know that the nation did not have this financial crisis when the repubs ruled congress?
did you know that Obama quotes from Marx?
i hope he does a good job, if not… im scared.
anyway, this is about food enough politics!
i cant wait to find some barney butter in my home town!
Saima says
I am Canadian ‘Obama supporter’…i teared up many a times during his victory speech last night!! He IS spectacular!!
Jess says
I loved the part of the speech last night when Obama addressed those whose support he has yet to win and told them that he would be their president, too.
That’s the thing – whether you voted for him or not, he WILL be your president. If we could all get past the partisan politics and us vs them mentality and work together to turn our country around – then that would be history in the making.
Tina says
There’s quite the debate on here today!
emily says
As a 20 year old student abroad in berlin right now, I can honestly say that I am proud to be a (voting) American. While some may not agree with Obama’s core beliefs I think we can all agree that America has lost the world’s trust over the last eight (or 20) years and it was truly incredible to see Europeans looking at me with pride. Whether or not you supported his campaign, I find it hard to believe that you can’t muster an ounce of happiness for the historic moment that Obama’s victory has brought to our country- even if just to appreciate the stunning voter turnout. I love my country and I love that democracy has excited my generation- it feels good to lay aside political cynicism for a moment even in very unstable times. ANYWAYS, woot to oatmeal! i just found the normal kind (GERMANS ONLY EAT MUESLI!) for the first time yesterday and it was yet another reason to rejoice! god bless america and oats
good lord jenn c says
obama quotes from marx because this is a capitalist society. how can he be called a socialist and for you to imply that he is a communist at the same time?? also, republicans or democrats being in control of congress has very little effect on a nationwide economic crisis. this crisis is a result of reckless decisions and planning by huge corporations, citizens undertaking poor financial choices and this insanely commercialized materialistic society which we have created for ourselves and perpetuate each day.
i am all for respecting other people’s political opinions, if they have legitimate reasoning behind them. i’m sorry, but that comment was just stupid and unneccesary.
Erin says
Thank you Kath for your subtle & gracious post today about the election:-) It is an exciting time for us and I’m glad you and I were a part of it! Peace, Love and KERF
Runnershigh says
Good call on biting your tongue. There are some frightening comments to this post.
JennC–a financial crisis such as this one takes YEARS to develop. Republicans held the house and the presidency during those crucial developmental years. And if you’re worried about socialism, perhaps you should be concerned by our government’s epic bailout of big business, rather than putting forth propoganda about Obama’s supposed Marxist ways.
Becky in MD says
I’m just wondering if all the dems were saying these things 4 years ago……my guess is no. Bush (was) (is) our president, and I can’t tell you how many times I heard “He’s not my president.” Its the day after the election and I’m already tired of hearing how graciously and gracefully democrats lost in the past and how republicans are not doing the same. That simply is not the case.
Kristin says
Oh, I am so glad the best candidate won too! In my home state of CA, he did great and I’m thrilled that Prop 2 passed and Prop 4 didn’t, still biting my nails about Prop 8, we haven’t gotten a sure answer yet…
Oh She Glows says
Ryane- I totally agree with what you said here, “I honestly believe that just the single fact that Obama has been voted into office, that people around the country will start making better decisions with their finances and such on their own. People have felt defeated hopeless for too long. Sometimes just knowing somebody has your back or needs in mind, gives you that extra step to do better, live better, think better.”
You could tell in the crowd last night that people feel REVIVED and hopeful after a long, long, time. It is really inspiring to watch from an outsider’s perspective (Canadian) because it not only affects US citizens, but every person around the world. I think that air of hope trickles into every country around the world…we all want a better future.
Runnershigh says
Most people were saying Bush is not my president because he didn’t actually, you know, WIN the election. 😉
That said, I think everyone is entitled to grieve after a political loss. It hurts and I don’t expect any McCain supporters to be happy or excited today.
Mel says
Jenn C-
I hate to break it to you, but Karl Marx was a proponent of capitalism, he has stated (even in Communist Manifesto) that capitalism was beneficial to the global economy and the lives of those who are involved in it. He disagreed with the class stuggle that it created, which is the basis of his belief.
And that throughout US history, (1837, 1842, 1846, 1930’s) that Democrats (and their predeccessors) were the ones that bailed out the US economy with their plans.
I respect your opinion and that you aren’t the happiest with yesterday’s outcome, but think before you speak.
Becky in MD says
Except that Bush, you know, DID win the election….I’m sorry if you don’t agree with the process, but he did win.
caitlin says
Becky – She’s implying that Bush did not win the popular vote and the election was ultimately decided by the courts. Obviously.
Sally says
BethT – yes, I am in CA (Los Angeles). Looks like Prop 8 passed officially – I don’t think I have ever felt so excited and so disgusted at the same time. At least previous marriages will be upheld, according to the Secretary of State.
Becky in MD says
Caitlin-Obviously, I know that she is implying that Bush did not win the popular vote. I think that everyone knows that. He did, however, win the electoral vote, which is what matters and what decides who wins the presidency.
ppp says
YAY on OBAMA!
YAY Kath for being liberal (sorry, it makes me happy)!
YAY for the non-sore loser republicans out there; we should all be UNITING now!
BOO on prop 8 (maybe) passing in CA – still hanging on for potential turn around. no on H8! progress, people! its inevitable.
ok, NOW back to food. 😉
Allison says
Last night was horrible. The best candidate did not win. We will have change in the next 4 years but it will not a be good change. 🙁
ppp says
optimism and unity are what will really change this country. The BEST candidate did win, and i look forward to the day he proves those of you who are afraid of him to be way WRONG. 🙂 (dont you hope he proves you wrong too?)
anon says
We’re bound to see a rise in the hand out (not the hand up) mentality….hard working americans will feel the brunt of this, no doubt. Monumental day for america, that being Obama’s ethnic background, but what change exactly does he stand for? He still has yet to be clear on that.
ppp says
i’ll give you some change he stands for (and has been CRYSTAL clear about): change from the bush administration; change from the “trickle down” mentality of our economics; change from the idea that americans are not entitled to affordable health care; change from the “free market” economy which is not working; change from the idea that environment and education are not important investments for our government.
just to name a few.
ok, i am stopping with the comments. I just get so riled up! 🙂

He’s obviously done such a good job of appealing to the masses.
His exact methods of change are very unclear, and his experience and history in the senate does NOT reflect these changes he boasts of. I DO hope he proves us all wrong.

I love Barney Butter, Obama, and my Blue Hampshire. But I am sad I didn’t win.

Hi Kath!! (Is it weird that I feel like I know you, b/c I have been a long time lurker, first time poster? haha)
I just wanted to add that like Kara, I LOVE my Blue NH as well and am thrilled to say the least, about the prospect of the next 4 years.
I also wanted to thank you for my newfound L-O-V-E of oatmeal!! I grew up hating it, but know all about it’s benefits. I decided to try it, and after a few weeks, I’m addicted!!! I go to bed excited about waking up to my oats!
Just wanted to stop in and say hi, and thanks!!

GRRRRRR! (Okay, got that out of my system) Thank you Dale for your comment…you are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! Obama isn’t the leader I wanted (actually neither was McCain really), but if that is the leader we chose, it is our duty to support him and pray for him, and that is something i am FULLY on board with.
as far as California’s prop 2, the idea behind it is nice…of COURSE we don’t want animals to suffer, but that is only a small part of the affects that proposition will have on us as a whole. Farmers are not making enough money as it is, and will have to charge more for thier products, and that cost will be transferred to us as consumers. Many farmers will now have to go out of busniess, and on top of that, businesses who use fresh produce will start looking for cheaper sources, getting it from places like Mexico, and there are increased health risks that go along with that. I really wish people would look at ALL the facts before they vote.

I rarely comment on this blog although I read it, but I couldn’t bite my tongue this time. I assume that most commenters here are young women and I just urge everyone to research the Republican party if they feel inclined to back them. That party does not like women and they are avidly trying to restrict our rights, including the right to choose, on a daily basis. I vote for choice and equality knowing that we are all truly created equal and should be able to have the rights to make the best choices for ourselves and our bodies.
Last night we as a country made a huge leap forward in electing the best candidate regardless of race, sex, religion, or any other creed. Unfortunately here in California there are still bigots that passed Prop. 8, even though it was thankfully by a small margin. I just hope that as women we can unite and back a party who wants the best for us.
Rach says
I’m disappointed about Prop 8 in California. It doesn’t look like that state is as ultra liberal as one poster commented earlier.

good lord jenn c – you wrote:
“…this crisis is a result of reckless decisions and planning by huge corporations, citizens undertaking poor financial choices and this insanely commercialized materialistic society which we have created for ourselves and perpetuate each day.”
The banking/mortgage crisis began when the Clinton administration eased the lending practices in order to get more minorities to own their own homes. Of course, people make their own decisions everyday, but there wasn’t enough education on the different types of mortgages and what an adjustable rate mortgage is or what interest-only payments really mean. I agree, the companies did get greedy, but it would not have been possible if the lending practices had not been loosened up in the first place by the Clinton administration.
I am not a conservative, I just thought that I’d give you a little history.

I am a registered republican, however this year I voted for Obama b/c I think we need a change and he is the man for a job. I just think we should all be thankful that we live in a nation where we are free to voice our opinions and vote for whom ever we want. Many people would kill to be an American and we need to come together and rebuild this country that we love!!

“I honestly believe that just the single fact that Obama has been voted into office, that people around the country will start making better decisions with their finances and such on their own. People have felt defeated hopeless for too long. Sometimes just knowing somebody has your back or needs in mind, gives you that extra step to do better, live better, think better.”
SERIOUSLY? This is the most stupid thing I’ve heard regarding the election. JUST because Obama won you think the county will start making better financial decisions? Doubt it. Thanks for the laugh.
Kel says
oh, and I the comment of Kath being subtle? I don’t think so:
“SO HAPPY that the best candidate won!!!”
not subtle – neither was the Obama banner running on the right side of her blog for a while.

there’s such a thing as problems of social structuralism and capitalism. clinton eased regulations to help marginalized groups and these regulations were ABUSED by the corporations that “followed” them.
thanks for the history update, but i think it’s relative.

Yeah, I figured out awhile ago that Kath was dem. But really…I don’t mind. I’m a McCain-loving Republican happily married to an Obama-voting Democrat. Political differences shouldn’t divide…they should make you look at things from another viewpoint. While I may differ strongly from Kath in my political views, it’s her blog and she can say what she wants. I’m just here for the food. 🙂

YAY for NC and especially for Charlotte, NC!!! I am proud to be a part of it!!! As for Prop 2, it is not the small family farmers that are losing the money, it is the factory farmers who do not have respect for the animals or the land that they misuse and mistreat. Prop 2 would actually create more demand and revenue for the family farmers who practice ethical and sustainable farming.

Ellcee,
Not trying to start an argument, but Obama’s resume is not “blank.” He was a professor at the University of Chicago, has been part of the Senate, graduated from Harvard Law, and for what he lacks in experience he makes up with the extraordinary politicians he surrounds himself with. And besides it’s not like Palin’s resume is chuck full of experience . . . sorry but that woman is a joke

Palin’s future will entail co-hosting the View. Heh heh. Took her like 7-8 years, 3 diff. schools to earn a degree. Doesn’t look like she’s much of a parent/observed very stiff, cold body language holding her baby. As women we should be very afraid if she strives to spew her garbage in 2012. Thankfully, you betchya, we’re not that stupid, ya know. Anyone got a recipe for Elk burger…I’m thrilled we have such a charismatic figure like Obama to forge our bright, new future. Bigger government is needed right now to undo our corporate controlled theocracy (call it what is is) that has bled the middle class dry for far too long and allowed the Bush lackeys to systematically encourage the American citizens to voluntarily relinquish our freedoms, one by one. Hopefully it’s not too late to get back on track. Be informed, be well.
