MORNING!!!
Wheee! We are an energetic bunch who slept too late!! [That’s a good thing – sleeping was good!] It’s been a bit go go go since we got up because we are going on a bear hike with Faith + Tate!
Remember the Dough Boy Smoothie I made a few weeks ago? It was incredible and needed to be replicated! Check that post for the details on procedure – last night I stuck ingredients in the Vita-mix and this morning I blended them away.
Tangy Dough Boy Smoothie
For TWO Dough Boy Smoothies
- 2/3 cup rolled oats (I had to mix in a little Scottish because we were out of rolled and that seemed to work fine)
- 2/3 cup milk
- 2/3 cup plain yogurt ( <—the tang!)
- 2 smallish ripe bananas
- 2 tbsp chia seeds
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1tsp cinnamon
- Pinch salt
- Plus 1/2 cup milk for AM
Mix together in blender (just with a spoon). Put in fridge overnight. In AM, add 1/2 cup milk and blend away!
Topped with the amazing Lynda’s Granola and Flying Squirrel PB – Bright Eyed and Bushy Tailed!
Instead of coffee I had an Earl Gray tea, which I lightly steeped to just get a touch of caffeine. I am not missing coffee much at the moment – might be that springtime has started to sink in. Tea was spiked with milk, which helps a lot with its blandness.
It’s only 46 degrees outside, but I’m in shorts with an optimistic attitude towards the wetish weather!
See you tonight.
Cindy says
Enjoy your hike!

My sister is visiting and I think i know what I’m making her for breakfast tomorrow! Does the chia seeds affect the texture? Asking ad am not sure if there’s enough time for them to work their magic!
KathEats says
They do thicken it a bit, but it would be fine without them
Hats @ See How She Runs says

If it’s thick, it’s more appealing.
Do you mean you refrigerate it IN the blender? i.e you put the blender in your fridge?

Hope your bear hike goes well 🙂

Gorgeous pictures, I love your style! And the smoothie looks fab; I might try it with coconut milk and coconut yogurt. Looks so delicious, I need to make breakfast! 🙂 Enjoy your day! xo
faith in food says
i’m an english tea drinker as well (spot of milk). i’m sure you already know this, but when you add milk to black teas and such, it actually hampers the absorption of all the antioxidant qualities 🙁
anyway, you eat well and get many of them elsewhere! ENJOY YOUR DAY!
Haleigh says
I think I may need to try a dough boy smoothie! Enjoy your Sunday.
Caitlyn (The Spoonful of Life) says
I’m loving your pink tablecloth! Very spring-ish.
JessicaEn says
Have you ever tried vanilla chai tea bags? There are some that have no caffeine and they are spicy/cinnamon-y and delicious. A touch of milk or vanilla soy milk and it is not bland in the least!
KathEats says
Which brand? I’ve had a few and didn’t love them
kaila @ healthy helper! says

Just a thought, have you ever tried *Caramel Roobios* blend of tea?
Spectacular with a bit of milk or not, and honey or not, its caffeine free, and full of antioxidants & helps body absorb iron.
I drank it during my pregnancies…so lovely!
Enjoy your hike.
KathEats says
Which brand is it? I love roobios in general!
Lori says
The one I get is blended right in the specialty tea shop I go too! It’s divine.

When I quit drinking coffee I found that having strong black tea for a few weeks then switching the green tea was helpful for detox. Hope it helps with your aches and pains too.
Alexa @ SimpleEats says
I had my first dough boy smoothie the other day and I can’t wait to try one again!
Angel7 says
That smoothie probably kicked started your day! I like the tangy aspect about it!
You probably should have made extra smoothies for the bears to keep them happy 🙂

Sarah says
FYI- lightly steeping the tea does not reduce the amount of caffeine in it. Caffeine is one of the first things to steep out of the tea leaves, so if you want to make it decaf, you should steep it for a 10-15 seconds and dump that water. Start with fresh hot water and the same tea bag, then you don’t have sacrifice the flavor.
Kat @ Cupcake Kat says
This smoothie looks so tasty I need to give it a try.
I love Earl Grey tea. You should try some teas from the Celestial brand. They are very tasty!
Maria says
Your SIAB looks deeeee-lish! For my nighttime snack I made a quick version of a doughboy smoothie; although my oats were only able to soak for 90 minutes. Rolled oats + homemade almond milk + cocoa powder + cinnamon + strawberries. Very lightly blended in the VitaMix. It was fabulous! Thanks for the inspiration.
Olena says
If you’re ever in Canada (or if you shop online), try David’s Tea http://www.davidstea.com/ for Earl Grey and other teas that will make your heart sing. My absolute favourite: Organic Cream Earl Grey http://www.davidstea.com/cream-of-earl-grey. Black tea with figs called Forbidden Fruit also blew my socks off. And I’m a coffee lover.
Char says
Mmmm doughy oats!! I think I did something wrong to mine last time because they did NOT look like that…must attempt again, immediately!
