Guess what I did this morning!!!!!!!!!
I went RUNNING!!! Matt set the alarm for 6:30 and I was out the door by 7. I did a swift 4 miles. I forget how much better I run first thing in the morning with just 2 bites of banana in my stomach instead of a whole bowl of oats or a salad still digesting. I ran 4.0 miles in 34:48 with an average pace of 8:42. Two of my miles were at 8:34 and 8:35. I am FINALLY getting my speed back – thanks to the warmer weather!
So why all the gratituous photos of me? Because I was trying to get a photo of my new shorts!! My friend Crystal gave these to me because they were not the perfect fit for her. Well, they are the PERFECT fit for me. I’ve never owned any true “running” shorts (most of mine are Target/Old Navy) and this is my second run with these. LOVE them! I love that they are loose and airy and the waist (a size large, nonetheless) fits perfectly with no digging in.
I tell you all of this because I think I found the same style online and ordered two more pairs this morning – I got quite a steal!
First I searched through Ebates for Nike Dry Fit to see if they had any stores that sell them. They do indeed – Bare Necessities – so I clicked through to get 5.0% cash back. Ebates has been awesome! I bought my sister a Crate + Barrel gift card through the site for a graduation present and got cash back on that, and also those sports bras I got a while back from Fresh Pair. And some makeup from Sephora. Plus today’s shorts! [Disclosure: the link about IS a referral link so I get points if you sign up, but I also honestly think this free money is quite neato!]
Once clicked through to Bare Necessities I found the shorts for $28 – pretty good price for exercise clothing. I put 2 pairs in my cart and got FREE shipping!!!
THEN I Googled for a coupon code to Bare Necessities and somehow got 20% off my entire order!?!!! Googled promotion coupons NEVER work for me so I was very surprised that it did and got such a good deal!
SPRING4FRIEND
20% Off Any Order
Expires: 5/31/2011
Two pairs of shorts, free shipping, 5% cash back and 20% off all for $45 = deal of the day!
I celebrated with coffee!
And a yogurt bowl – complete with Socca!
Faith brought me a piece of her homemade socca last night. I believe it’s sort of a flat bread / pancake made with chickpea flour? It sure tasted beany! I’m not quite sure why I thought it would be more sweet bready for breakfast, but I put it in my breakfast beany and all!
It was good, and I loved the texture. I think next time I’d have it with lunch though 😉
My bowl included a cup of greek yogurt, half a banana, half a mango, socca, ground flax, coconut and sunflower butter
And coffee #3! I think my rankings of the Shenandoah Joes goes #1, #3, #2.
I’m off to the print shop, then home to meet a guy to fix a window, then lunch, then to the bakery all day and all night!
Freya (Brit Chick Runs) says
You look good in the shorts!
Ahh SOCCA! I love it! I’m making some right now, except with added curry powder, herbs, chestnut flour…it’s awesome 🙂 It’s one of my favourite foods, but definitely more savoury.
megan @ whatmegansmaking says
Great deal on the shorts! I love this running weather. I’ve got a run planned for my lunch break and I was so happy all i had to back was shorts and a t-shirt!
Laura Jane @ Recovering Chocoholic says
Sounds like a great deal. I can’t imagine running before 7am! I just can’t wake up that fast, although I see great benefits to having the workout done first think in the morning.
Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food says
Good for you for getting up and out in the early AM, I really need to start doing that because I run or workout usually in the late morning but so much can get in the way!
Look at those strong legs you go girl! and thanks for the heads up with ebates, I need some more running shorts as my favorite ones split at the seams when I was doing squats! 😛
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
I so want to like running shorts like that, but I need the compression style. All of that fabric just bunches up and I spend time tugging at them. They look good on you though and good job getting out for a run!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Look at you, you little bargain hunter! Nice deals! I love a pair of good fitting running shorts. I’ve signed up for Ebates but haven’t really investigated yet, so I really should get on that! Have a good one Kath!
Christine @ Merf In Progress says
Hmm, I wonder if I wore those cute shorts, if I’d be a better runner?
Jill says
cute shorts will always make u a better runner 🙂
Jill says
never mind the shorts where did you get that cool run for your life T????
KathEats says
It was from a race in Charlotte
Stacy @ Every Little Thing says
That’s a great deal! I can never get random coupon codes to work for me either – glad they worked for you! Have a great day!
mindy @ just a one girl revolution. says
I love, love, love Ebates! The money truly does add up when you shop through their site!
Juli D. says
Psst – If you have a Nordstrom Rack, these are on sale there for $15 at the moment! 🙂
Heather says
I love running first thing in the morning – gives me energy for the entire day!
Great save on those running shorts – I usually buy my running shorts at the outlet or at Marshalls/TJ Maxx.
Good luck with the Bakery today.
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
What a fun breakfast bowl!! Love the shorts 🙂
Angie says
It’s the best feeling getting a workout out of the way early, especially when you’re so busy during the day!
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
Nike Dry Fit shorts are the best! I had always wanted them but thought they were a little pricey. Then last fall Nike had a promotion on their clearance items and I got them for $12 a pair + free shipping!
shannon (the daily balance) says
love that socca addition! yum yum
cutie in the shorts!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Socca is amazing and makes the best thin crust pizza! I made it Sunday for me and my boys…we all love it! Ebates is incredible. I love getting money back for shopping. Super score!
AShley says
Definitely beany!! 🙂 As much as I love garbanzos I’m not the biggest fan of the flour and I figured out it definitely does a number on my stomach!! Maybe because the beans aren’t cooked before being ground into flour? I love getting awesome deals on athletic gear and running shorts make SUCH a big difference. I remember transitioning from those cotton “soffee” shorts to real running shorts and about fell over in excitement. 😉
Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me says
That is quite the oatmeal bowl. I’m dying to mix up my oatmeal add-ins. I’m soooo bored with the oats I’ve been eating!
KathEats says
There are no oats in that bowl!
Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me says
LOL oops my bad. I saw the bowl and automatically assumed. I should’ve read closer but I got wooed by pretty pictures. Sorry bout that!
KathEats says
No problem! The yogurt was delish 🙂
Amanda says
Those are seriously the only shorts that I will wear to run! So airy and zero riding up or chafing! Glad you’ve discovered them, too 🙂
Beth says
You know, you don’t look any bigger than me, but I have those same shorts in a size small! I guess it’s just a personal preference thing…I like my shorts snug because I don’t like to feel like they’re flapping around when I run!
KathEats says
Haha! My other shorts are tighter – I guess I loved the flapping in the wind!
sarah (sarah learns) says
i’m obsessed with ebates too! 🙂 i just got a check from them for $20! and that was from a couple restaurant.com coupons, one pair of shoes, and a cardigan – i totally took advantage of daily doubles and stuff, but still! it’s pretty great.
Grace @ Healthy Dreaming says
What a great way to start the day! Exercise + a great breakfast 🙂
You look fantastic in those shorts!
Danielle @ weightsandmeasures says
I like to buy quality clothes to work out in. I usually find mine at Ross or Marshall’s, checking that section when I go in looking for other things. I have a bowl of oats in my stomach right now, and it will be hours before I can go run. I just did not feel up to running first thing this am. It’ll happen, either way though.
Alex says
I love Socca!
It is indeed a pancake made with chickpea flour and it’s the traditional food of the city of Nice in France.
They sell it literally EVERYWHERE here, fresh out of giant pans and cut into pieces. Yumm.
Amanda (Eating Up) says
I love when coupon codes actually work!
Lindsay says
Love it!! There is nothing better than a great deal.
katie says
oh i love nike tempos, they look great on you and i love that color! they are all i wear for running. well okay, I have 2 pairs and just alternate between them lol! I’m very curious about the socca, I must give it a try soon, it looks so easy to make.
Gina @ RunningtotheKitchen says
It’s so great to get your workout in and done with first thing in the morning, but it can be sooo hard to get out of bed to do it! That yogurt bowl looks delicious. Must try socca!
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
I’m dying to make a sweet socca. I bet if you put some cinnamon and sugar in the dough it would be great for breakfast!
Jess says
Great shorts! I have trouble finding shorts that fit- they always ride up. Or, the waist is too tight but the bottoms fit nicely, they can’t be too long because I have short legs and then they seem to just restrict my stride… so many variables! Excuse the personal question but do those have the built in underwear? I haven’t made up my mind on those yet. I just need some ideas for shorts, I am running a half marathon and told myself I could treat myself to a pair of new running shorts for the half marathon. Thanks for the coupon tips!
KathEats says
Yes, they do have built in underwear. I was against that for so long because they felt so tight on me, but I guess since these are a large they are nice and stretchy 🙂 I always still wear normal undies too – if that’s TMI! – because I just don’t feel like the shorts underwear should be all I’m wearing!
Jazz says
I only wear the built in underwear! Try the lululemon ones… amazing!
Krissy - Shiawase Life says
AGREE with this comment, lol!!
Allie says
I also wear normal undies as well. I just feel extra tucked in with the built in kind 🙂
Meaghan O'Connor says
Looks gorgeous! I would never think to put all of those things together- so creative! 🙂
Amanda says
It sounds like a wonderful run! and I am so glad that you found great running shorts! I have been looking for good ones for quite some time now! I might just have to try these 🙂
Marina says
I have to get some running shorts!
Socca is great, it goes amazingly with sunny side egg and some savory toppings 🙂
Cara @ ChicMeetsHealthy says
i love a good deal and i would have been rejoicing about that!! i love going to the under armor and nike outlets to find work out clothes too!!
Amanda- The Nutritionist Reviews says
Thanks for sharing your great deal!
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
Thats a great deal! You also had a fab run.. and your legs look amazing! Jealous!
Katy (The Singing Runner) says
Great deal on the shorts! Which reminds me, I definitely need more pairs!
Liv @ The Salty n' Sweet says
My favorite running shorts are Nike Tempos! They’re so freeing and airy. Oh, I’ve seen Ashley from edible perspective make socca before 🙂
Samantha@ Bikini Birthday says
I can’t wear shorts to run… major chafing issues!
Krissy @ Make It Naked says
Yeah for running shorts! I live in them. I tried to make a sweet socca with cinnamon and honey and it still tasted beany. It’s a hard flavor to hide. Garlic is the only thing so far that I’ve found to overpower the bean.
Anastasia says
For some reason I just can’t workout in shorts. Maybe I just haven’t found the right pair yet!
Good for you getting in an AM workout.. they are the best!
Sabina says
Which style of Nike shorts did you get?
I have a pair and they fit so well (built in undies, but I also wear my own) and I like them flapping-in-the-wind. I’m like you – I don’t like fitted clothing when I’m running, but I get over this with cold weather running tights. 😉
KathEats says
These: http://www.barenecessities.com/nike-tempo-track-sport-shorts-211646_product.htm?pf_id=Nike211646
Sabina says
Thanks! I have a different, but similar, pair; can’t recall the style name offhand!
Katie says
Love the shorts! Its so awesome to find great deals like that! I get excited over deals too!!
I love that you added socca to your breakfast, if you made it sweet socca it would taste better in there I bet, Im sure your friend Faith knows how to make sweet socca!
Have a great day!!!!!!
xoxo
Chelsea says
I am jealous of your warm short wearing weather! I hope things at the bakery move in day go great!
Gretchen @ Honey, I Shrunk the Gretchen! says
That’s an INCREDIBLE deal for exercise clothing. Even w/my sister’s sweet employee discount at UA I don’t think I could pull anything quite like that!
Lora says
They have a TON of Nike Tempos at TJ Maxx right now, in a lot of different colors. $14.99 each. In case anyone wants to stock up!
Allie says
What a deal! I really like the shorts too! I am glad you are getting your speed back 😀
Khushboo says
Im the same with my runs: they are correlated with the amount of food in mah belly…the less the better!
Cait's Plate says
GAH! I’m SO jealous! I’m suffering from a back injury right now and can’t run and it’s KILLING ME with this nice weather to be stuck in a gym on the elliptical!!
Glad at least one of us is enjoying this nice running weather!!
Miranda @ Working Mom Works Out says
I hate running shorts! I think because my thighs rub. I wanna try a running skirt.
Gina (Running to the Kitchen) says
It’s so nice to get your workout done with in the morning, but so hard sometimes to get out of bed for it! The yogurt bowl looks delicious. I need to try socca!
Abby says
I love these shorts but ever since I have started running in tight capris I have been liking that a lot better! Maybe it is because of the colder temps! I’m thinking of getting a running skirt. There are so many cute things out now! 🙂
anne says
what is this fancy watch you have? my hubbs wants a GPS watch for his marathon training/timing. Is this one of those? where can I find? thx!
KathEats says
It’s a Garmin Forerunner 305. It’s great!
Melissa @ HerGreenLife says
Thanks for mentioning the socca. It sounds like it might be similar to something we came across on our recent trip to Italy, called farinata. It tasted delicious, and anything made with chickpea flour has to be pretty nutritious, so I’ll have to try this out!
Allison @ Happy Tales says
Woooo sounds like you had an AMAZING start to your day! Congrats on the steal on the shorts! I have the saaaame pair (well, multiple..in different colors) and I love ’em too!
lynn @ the actor's diet says
i’m a big poser – i own shorts like that but i never ever go running…
Hilary says
Score! What a great find! I find that looser shorts sometimes result in chafing when I run (though maybe it’s just ’cause I’m not as skinny as you)…not quite shorts weather here….soon, I hope!
KathEats says
I’m the opposite! Tighter shorts chaf me
KathEats says
Chafe?!
Casey says
Love the shorts! I own several of the same pairs, and I love the crazy patterns Nike offers! Target does offer running shorts, though, almost the same as Nike.
Casey says
As far as the bult in undies – I just wear the shorts. So much more comfy!
Alaina says
Those shorts look so comfortable! Mine ride up. Haha. I’ll have to look into that brand! And what a great deal! I love when everything comes together and you save money. 🙂
ilovefetacheese says
Someone needs to give you a pair of Lululemon run:speed shorts…i SWEAR they will change your life 🙂 i have about 5 pairs of the Nikes and I never touch them now lol!
Michelle (The Runner's Plate) says
I love Nike Tempo shorts! I’ve tried a lot of different running shorts, but these are definitely some of my favorites. (I have 4 pairs.) Although when I rolled the waistband down (which I often do because I can’t stand them to be high on my waist) they will give me “diaper butt.”
I hate how bogged down I feel after eating, so that’s why I usually run on an empty stomach.
Michelle (your girlfriend for fitness) says
I love it when an internet coupon works out! It’s like hitting the lottery LOL. I will have to check Ebates out, I am surprised I have never heard of them.
Selena says
You made me crave Great Harvest. I haven’t been in a while since the one in the town where I work closed :(. I remembered though that there’s one near my house and since I’m working from home today that’s where I went…. California Cobb, Granola and a loaf of Whole Wheat Cinnamon Chip. And a nice converstation with the owners that were there working hard.
Now I want to go back every day for all of the different types of bread…mmmm.
Heather @ Get Healthy With Heather says
Nothin like some beans for breakfast!
Diana @ My Little Part says
I love Nike Tempos! I own about 4 pairs and wear them ALL THE TIME.
Leah says
Pretty colour of shorts!! Lululemon makes the best shorts, more expensive but definately worth it, you should check them out. I am not a fan of the poufy shorts on me, I look like a soccer mom in them!!
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
Yay for shorts weather! We finally have nice temps here now, and I couldn’t be happier!
Natalia - a side of simple says
Thanks SO much for the running shorts highlight! I run all the time but don’t own a pair of true “running shorts” either. I’m looking to get some, though, and I’m definitely going to take a look at the pairs you bought!
Holly says
LOVE Nike running shorts! They are all I have ever worn. It’ so nice to find a great fit in running shorts and I love all the fun colors!
Kelly @ Laughter, Strength, and Food says
I love finding online deals! I always google coupon codes and try a million to find one that works! 🙂
Erica says
I love those Nike Dri Fit Tempo shorts – they are my favorite shorts to run in and I always love summer so I can finally wear them again – I have 4 pair and always want more. They are the perfect length – enough for movement and coverage!
I also started doing ebates! It’s awesome:)
Bree says
Sad face. I want the Tempos to work out for me so badly, they come in the cutest colors and I can always find deals on them. My thighs just swallow them up though, and it looks like I am not wearing any at all! Not a good look 🙂 That and I get major chafing from the thigh rubbage. (probbaly not a real word)
Thanks for sharing the Bare Necessities site though. I am going to explore!
Kiran @ KiranTarun.com says
Yummy breakfast to fuel for long to-do lists!
faith says
That was a particularly savory socca too! Sprinkled with cumin and salt. Next time we’ll use it as a pizza crust and you’ll be a total convert.
kate@hautetotsbos says
ebates is the bomb. seriously. it’s such a no brainer, i even order big ticket stuff through ebates and have it shipped to local stores to save on the shipping(walmart, target for example).
cheap? who moi?
Angela (Oh She Glows) says
I have those shorts in a couple colours and I love them! No riding up 🙂
Ingel says
Nice! I got very similiar blue ones few weeks ago and my legs love them! 🙂
Sara says
Those are my favorite shorts EVER!!! The built-in undies keep them from riding up.
I even did a whole blog post dedicated to them I love them so much. Haha.
http://lifeinbeantownusa.blogspot.com/2011/03/working-runway.html
Claire says
Love my Nikes too. Wear them all the time. You can usually find them on Clearance at Dick’s Sporting Goods (I wear Medium and they always have M & L). Ragged Mountain Running also has a good selection that are on sale 🙂
Elena @ GagaForGrapefruit says
i LIVE in those shorts! they’re the best!
r8chel says
Your shorts/legs/brick steps look great… 🙂 but I especially like that blue cloth that your breakfast is sitting on. Such a lovely color and texture — and sparkly!
erica says
omg. i’m calling this the best enabler-post of the day. i just went on that site and bought a whole bunch of stuff! (those shorts included!) thanks kath! =)
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
cool story! I LOVE good running shorts–make the run SO much better 🙂
Mindy says
Love these shorts! In the past few years I’ve accumulated quite a few, too. I think the last count was 8 so I only have to do laundry once/week. Now that I think of it, they are SUPER durable considering that I’ve worn/washed them once per week for the past 5 years… I know I’ve had some pairs since college!
Kevie says
Those Nike running shorts are my FAVORITE ever! I own 5 pairs… I love the colors, PLUS they don’t cling, they’re light, breathable, moveable, …the whole kit and kaboodle! I slightly dislike running in cooler/cold weather bc I have to wear my tights or capris.
McKayla @ Green Groats says
I recently discovered socca and love it! I made rosemary socca earlier this month 🙂
sarah (the SHU box) says
those are all i wear 🙂 i have like 6 or 7 pairs!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I’m the total opposite to you – I can’t run if I don’t have a full belly!
And wow, you scored an awesome deal on those shorts. Nice going. 😀
Katie @ Real Food Katie's Way says
good job on the run!!
I need to look into running shorts…I usually run in yoga pants which is fine when its cooler but not so fine when it starts to get hot…
I say this every time but I really love that spoon!
Emma (Namaste Everyday) says
I seriosuly get a natural high when I find shopping deals. Score!
Nicole says
Try marshalls or TJ Maxx… I have four pairs of those running shorts and they were only 14.99 each.
Erin says
I just got my first Ebates check last week!
Hannah says
First step: Make socca. Second step: Copy Kath.
jenna k says
ahhh thank you so much for this info!! these are my favorite shorts- pretty much every girl on campus at UT wears them daily- but i recently sucked it up and decided to start buying mediums instead of smalls, so i need more! the free shipping and 20% off code make for a great deal. i just wish they had more colors. thanks so much for posting the coupon! 🙂
Krissy - Shiawase Life says
they’re on sale for 15.97 + 20 percent off on nike.com, and 6 percent cash back thru ebates right now!
KathEats says
SWEET!!
KathEats says
But I’m having a hard time finding the sale!?
