OMG those Duggars! [Yes, still watching.] According to Josh Duggar, I only have half a heart because I left pieces of my heart with Joey, and Hugh David, and Snakey. I can’t imagine if I married my first boyfriend!! (Which would have been – I think – Jeremy Davis in kindergarten! Or Jared O’Quinn in first grade or Chris Campbell in second grade….OK I’ll stop
)I woke up feeling a little off this morning. Kind of like I’m sick but not sick? I’m thinking either dehydration from yoga or perhaps I’ve been drinking too much decaf and not enough caf this week (I’m down to 30% caf and 60% decaf in the wean plan and hope to stay at those percentages because I am not dependent if I’m under 50% caf.)
Any hobbled down to make some breakfast.
One heck of a combo – with a ton of pumpkin!!
- 1/3 cup oats, 2/3 cup water [out of milk!!!]
- 2 tbsp wheatberries
- 1/2 medium banana (edited to add this!)
- 1/2 cup+ pumpkin, stirred in at end
- 1/4 cup cottage cheese, stirred in at end
- Cinnamon, vanilla, pinch salt
- Drizzle maple syrup
- Few butterscotch chips
- CRUSHED BISCOFF!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Barney Butter
Nothin’ but a blanket of freshly fallen snow
The ice caps are melting!!

Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
The oats look fab!
And I can relate to the feeling of sort of sick, but not really sick. I think it has something to do with the business of the Christmas season (for me at least) while also being a bit dehydrated. Gotta guzzle some more water! 😀
Paige(Running Around Normal) says
That oatmeal looks delicious!
I’m sort of feeling the same way – I really hope I’m not sick, although, I’ve been stressing a lot lately, and that typically does me in!
Happy packing:)
Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says
Your coffee always look so good!
Sara says
Just a question..
What does the cottage cheese do to the oatmeal?? Does it make the oatmeal cheesy tasting? Just curious. Have a great day Kath!
🙂
Kath says
=Cheesecake
Cait (Cait's Plate) says
Mmm. Pumpkin oats sounds amazing to me on this freezing cold morning!
I just got over being sick – I hope I didn’t give it to you via blogworld!! 😀
Have a great day!
ellen eats beets says
Pumpkin oats are the best on a cold morning!
Christy says
That’s such a fun idea that girl Sarah is doing with all your recipes!
Madeline @ Greens and Jeans says
Gotta love pumpkin oats! I tried cottage cheese in my oats the other day for the first time… why did I wait so long to do this?! So good!
Meredith says
You were watching “17 Kids and Counting” this morning too? Yeah, those kids give me the heeby-jeebies. Waiting until your wedding day for the first kiss? In a word: Eek.
I have to say that I have NEVER been an oatmeal person, but your blog is slowly and surely convincing me to give them a shot. The sheer amount of variety is impressive!
Erin says
Every morning, your posts make me want to eat a second breakfast!!
Mellissa says
I am really fascinated by the Duggars, I find myself watching episodes of their show in complete fascination. Great if that works for them but I always find myself wondering about their lives. Like do the go to college? Get jobs in the real world?
Allison K says
The Duggars fascinate me as well. Did you know that they live 100% debt free?
Ameena says
We all just got over colds here so it is going around. Pop some vitamin C!
Mara @ What's for Dinner? says
Could you even imagine having THAT many kids?!
Casey (@Spicy&Sweet) says
Your schedule is certainly full today!! 🙂 Have a great time!
megan says
your first paragraph made me laugh. i have friends that did the whole didn’t kiss until their wedding day thing. I didn’t go quite that far but hey, good for them if that’s what works for them. 🙂
Sarah says
How can you have 30% caf and 60% decaf? What’s the other 10%? (Milk?)
Kath says
LOL – I can’t add!! What I was trying to say was 1/3 caf and 2/3 decaf but I forgot the .333 and .666.
Kay says
I think the Duggars are a lovely family…you must like them a little bit also or you wouldn’t waste your time watching! 😉 Why put them down for their beliefs when you wouldn’t want someone putting you down for your disbelief??? I say, as long as they are not asking anyone else to raise their children and are doing so well and are so happy, then that is all that matters. After all, the Bible says that children are a gift and that is certainly how this family reacts to each and every precious baby that is born to them…like they have just been given the most wonderful gift ever. All babies are precious, huh? Who could not LOVE them! Have a Merry CHRISTmas and remember…JESUS is the reason for this season.
Cyclist Kate says
Unless you’re one of the millions of non-Christians in this world who celebrate some other solstice-related tradition ;). People have been having solstice festivities since way, way before Christianity came about. But that’s a discussion for another time.
I don’t think Kath was “putting down” the Duggars as much as questioning…and isn’t questioning important so we can all be sure we’re doing what’s truly best for us? I’m happy to have people question my belief system (which you might call “disbelief” but I just call “belief in something other”)…I might learn something!
Kath, you have not yet broken me of my major “ick” reaction to cottage cheese, but I’m one step closer to adding pumpkin to my oats (somehow I don’t think drenching my bowl in pumpkin butter is the same thing ;))
Laura says
TLC only tells half the story. The Duggars look nice, but Bill Gothard’s teachings have ruined lives. What you see on tv is a nice, watered down version of reality. There is definitely a dark side, and it is ugly. I don’t think they would have nearly the support they do if people knew what Bill Gothard and ATI, and Vision Forum are REALLY about.
–from someone who lives in the same area, whose child sees the doctor whose office they used for the Bradley method, and who wound up in a NASTY situation thanks to the same teachings, only even less extreme.
I won’t touch the ridiculous Jesus comment . . . 🙂
Sorry if I sound rude–not trying to. But if you’ve had the same emotional trauma and havoc wreaked upon your life thanks to these types of teachings, then you know how triggering these types of comments can be.
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
All that pumpkin sounds delicious! Even though it’s Christmas-time, I still love my pumpkin! 🙂
Heather @ The Joyful Kitchen says
Biscoff cookies on oatmeal = amazing! The Duggars are definitely out there, but it’s in my opinion it’s refreshing to see people who are a little more oblivious to this world than I am 🙂
Betsy says
Those Duggars creep me out! I saw the wedding episode and the way the men acted about handing over the “property” aka the BRIDE…ugh. That made me angry. To each his own, I guess. I did laugh about the half heart thing…If I married my first boyfriend…just no! haha. I’m waiting for the day when one of their daughters rebels and decides to go to college!!
Danielle (Coffee Run) says
Loveee pumpkin year-round, not just for the fall
Enjoy your day!
Karla says
I love 18 Kids and Counting, but honestly they’re a little nuts sometimes. The episode where Josh Duggar got married was so bizarre to me! I don’t think there’s anything wrong with marrying your first boyfriend but I wouldn’t strive for it. If it happens, it happens but I think it’s weird that they can’t even kiss til their wedding. I feel like their wedding night must be so awkward!
Tracey says
I LOVE butterscotch chips and I have a bag in my cabinet specifically for oatmeal! I also like to sprinkle them on toast with peanut butter. So good!
Kristine @ Purple Pinky Toes says
ahh I never used to be able to stand the Duggars but now I <3 them! Haha!!
Cole says
Your breakfasts always look so amazing. I’m jealous!
Mama Pea says
That Chris Campbell gets around. He was my first grade boyfriend. That makes you his rebound, sucka! 😉
Kath says

Kath says
So glad!! I will 🙂
thepinkpeppercorn says
Yea, marrying my first boyfriend…well he was in kindergarten too! Except there were 2 of them. Yikes.
mary ann says
is it just me, or is it always just a little dissapointing when i dont have a lil drop of milk for my oats. I mean, dont get me wrong, i love my oats any and every way I can get em… but the milk just provides the extra swoon factor

Susan says
The more pumpkin the better I say!
Deirdre says
Oh the Duggars! I like you am very glad I didn’t marry my first boyfriend. That being said they seem happy. I always get sucked into their show because they are such a model of efficiency. They clean more and get out the door faster when they need to go somewhere than I do!
Kristen @ Change of Pace says
Your oats almost look chocolatey… Which wouldn’t be a bad idea 🙂
amanda says

Heather @ Get Healthy With Heather says
Your oatmeal looks SOOO good! I’ve never tried wheat berries in mine, what a good idea!
Emily Eats and Exercises says
Oatmeal looks amazing as usual. Butterscotch chips and cookies – dessert in a bowl. 🙂 I found Barney butter at my grocery store today! I was so excited.
Mae says
Hey Kath, are there any other things you like to add to oatmeal for texture other than wheatberries? I LOVE my oats, but sometimes I miss a CRUNCH! (I’ve tried adding nuts &Nut butter and its WAY too filling…)
Kath says
Granola?
sarah (ghost world) says

I have to say that, even though I’m stuffed after my spaghetti dinner, I really want some pumpkin oats now!! Thanks a lot KATH! 🙂 Oh well…have to wait until tomorrow morning. At least I don’t have to think of what I’m going to make. I’ll go to bed dreaming of it!
skinnyrunner says
hope you get all your packing done today and you feel better!
Jenny says
Those Duggars really do crack me up, they seem to get along fine and I love watching them, but it’s hard to imagine living in that situation!
Joelle (The Pancake Girl) says
As usual, that bowl of oats looks out of control and delish!! I love that mug, too- so festive! Have a great night.
AnnQ says
Man, that IS some Oats combo! It looks super-fab!
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
I didn’t marry my first boyfriend but I admire people with the restraint to not date until they are ready for marriage. I was not one of them.
