Pumpkin is one of the most hilarious cats I’ve ever been around! She DEMANDED to come on the porch today, and I finally let her in the house [she lives next door to us].
I don’t like letting her inside [Matt is allergic to cats] but I couldn’t say no today she was meowing so much!
I went to Body Pump this morning after 10 days off. My back has felt GREAT since our beach trip and I figured it must be something in my life that was causing the pain: either my bed/body pillow or an activity I do at home.
I did the squat track today without any weights at all (just wasn’t up for lifting the heavy bar) and I had no pain during the track at all.
But the second the track was over, I felt the same pinching pain in my SI joint that I’ve had for a trimester now. Squats = no good! My back has felt OK since, but I’m thinking I might need to find another way to work my legs from now on.
Lunch was a garden salad with a farm egg, beans, nuts and dates in a lemon+caper+olive oil+salt dressing topper.
Love dates in a salad! [FYI that yolk dripped over while it cooked – it’s not all runny in my salad!]
I found some tortillas in our fridge and made a “crepe” for part II of lunch
Filled with a sweet Biscoff surprise!
I’m spending the afternoon writing and preparing for our bakery events tomorrow!

Pumpkin reminds me of our cat- same coloring and demanding personality!
Catalina @ Cake with Love says
It is so cool that you still do Body Pump, I hope when I am pregnant I will have half of your enegry and workout dedication! That cat is hilarious, and I know how hard is to say no to them!
Stephanie @ Legally Blinde says
I like to add a chopped hard-boiled egg to my salad, but I’ve never tried adding a fried one – I’ll have to test it out! Your garden lettuce looks amazing.
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Awww I think the cat missed you! 🙂 Hopefully Matt’s not sneezing tonight!
Cait's Plate says
Ohh love the idea of filling it with Biscoff! I have a whole jar of that just waiting to be used for that exact same thing 🙂
Sana says
The cat totally wants to be a part of your family 🙂
Annette @FitnessPerks says
Mmmm egg on a salad. SO good!
If it hurts, don’t keep doing it, for sure. But maybe check out how your hips are tipping-forward or back too much either way- when you do a squat? This can cause some pain…(but it depends where exactly you’re feeling it). Stair workouts or plie squats might help?
Khushboo says
Such a flavourful lunch- looks yum!

I love that Pumpkin! What a funny cat. I love whenever you post pictures of him, and your pictures show that hilarious personality. Made me smile, thanks. 🙂

Totally agree on dates! They are a tad pricey but worth it.

Cats will have their way, that’s for sure. That progression of pictures is so perfect. Love.

There is an orange cat my husband and I nick-named ‘Pumpkin Cat’ who hangs out in my parents front yard. He lives about two houses down. A few nights ago my husband saw yet another orange cat, this one was wandering through our yard (we live across town). I asked if it was ‘another Pumpkin Cat’ and he said it was. How funny that orange cats get the ‘pumpkin’ moniker.
KathEats says
There are orange cats everywhere!
erica says
i love that pumpkin just wanders over and demands to be let in! hahahaha.

Hi Kath,
I’m a Body Pump instructor and an option for the squats if they are giving you grief is to try using a swiss ball. Put the ball against the wall, rest the curve of your back against it, your feet slightly wider than shoulder width and out in front of you. (So that you are on an angle against the wall with the ball supporting your back) You can then squat up and down smoothly and it should be kinder to your body. (Look up a YouTube vid if that made no sense at all lol!)
I really enjoy reading your blog!
Ally
KathEats says
Great suggestion! Only problem is my gym has a ballet barre there and windows on the other side…but I might just slip out and do this in the main room or the squat press machine.
Alyssa (pb and oatmeal) says
Thats so funny how she wants to come in your house as if it was her own
Heather @ Fit Mama Real Food says
Awesome looking salad! I’ve added dates in once before and loved it!
Jess says
I am a body pump instructor who used to get lower back pain with the squat track, too! Make sure that when you’re squatting, you’re bringing your butt DOWN as much as you are sticking it out. In other words, don’t keep all of your weight in your heels. I hope that helps!
KathEats says
I thought you were supposed to put all of your weight in the back of your feet – so you can wiggle your toes!? I definitely think I might be sitting back a little too much, although my instructor said my form is good
Jess says
Yes – you should have your weight in your heels and you should be able to wiggle your toes, BUT make sure you’re not just sticking the butt out. It’s a subtle difference. Give it a try! Hope it helps 🙂
KathEats says
I’ll work on it 🙂

Have you thought about working out in a pool for the rest of your pregnancy? (If you have access to one.) I have back and foot problems that prevent me from doing a lot of conventional exercises on land, so I rely on water to do them in! It is a great non-impact workout! I run in the pool (water chest high), do jumping jacks, cross-country skiing, and lots more. I have some Speedo gloves that I use to add resistance—and some hand-held foam weights.
The water is very relaxing, plus, I stay cool!
KathEats says
Yeah, I went swimming a few weeks ago. I don’t think I could do it more than once a week. And assuming the squats are what’s hurting my back, I think if I take them out, I’ll be fine on land otherwise with walks and stuff.
The Healthy Apple says
Looks fabulous Kath! SO excited to see you in one week in Seattle! xoox
Love you!
Sarah @ Fresh Living says
I forgot about capers in salad dressings. Thanks! Your salad looks very good!
Rebecca @ Blueberry Smiles says
I love when pets have really strong personalities! So amazing how well they communicate without speaking.
Patricia says
I am very allergic to cats, and I would not appreciate it if my husband were letting the neighborhood cat (ours is black & white) into our house while I was at work. Just saying…
KathEats says
He doesn’t mind…and hasn’t shown any signs of allergy
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I just bought a dozen farm eggs this week and oh my goodness, I can’t believe how amazing they are! The yolk is so dark that it’s orange and the flavour is incredible. I don’t think I can ever go back to grocery store eggs again!
Danielle says
I love reading your blog. I am six weeks behind you in my pregnancy and had to stop going to body pump because I had pneumonia early on in my pregnancy and a huge ovarian cyst. When the cyst shrunk my doc said I could go back to it but I was nervous. After reading and seeing how you modify the workout I went back on Thursday and am SO glad I did. I was able to do a lot more than I thought for being off so long and felt so good. Thanks for the inspiration!!
KathEats says
Glad!!
Lexi @ You, Me, & A World to See says
I could neither resist pumpkin the vegetable or pumpkin the cat. Both so awesome 🙂
