We moved!
If home is where the heart is, mine is somewhere new!!
We moved! We sold our house, packed everything into boxes and moved across town into The House Worth Moving For. While we weren’t really planning to buy a new house this year, it ticked all of our “must have” boxes and just felt so right. We gained an extra bedroom, an office and lots of space to grow into for many years to come.
It was very bittersweet to say goodbye to Cottage KERF, where we brought Mazen home from the hospital and entertained so many friends, and we will miss our screened-in porch so much, but we absolutely love the new place. I don’t plan on doing any grand house tours, but you can be assured this house is Home Neat Home : )
And the best news? The new place has great natural light in the kitchen and dining room! Breakfast this morning was raspberry swirl French toast plus banana, blackberries and almond butter.
We only had one mishap on moving day – a shelf that was missing a peg sent an antique champagne glass crashing down among all the dozens of others about to be put away. By some stroke of luck, it was the only glass that shattered!
Tell me your moving stories!
Cara says
Congrats on your move! We built our house 8 years ago while I was 5 months pregnant with our third. It was MISERABLE packing up and selling a house while pregnant and doing daycare, ugh. My only big story was 3 days after we moved in it was Thanksgiving and our basement flooded, because the tubing on our water softener was never tied down….
KathEats says
Oh noooo!
Ashley says
How exciting Kath! Cant wait to see some pics of your new digs 🙂 Happy unpacking!
Liz @ I Heart Vegetables says

Linda @ The Fitty says
A kitchen with lots of natural light is my kind of kitchen! Your photography is going to be so great.
Mel says
Would love to see some pics! Always my favorite posts!
Laura says
What?! I can’t believe you did all that and kept it a secret on the blog! How long did the whole process take?
KathEats says
We wanted our house sale to go through and get settled : )
Tonya says
You lil sneak! When did you guys move?? LOL How does Mazen like the new digs? I recently moved as well. On March 1st. In the freezing sleet and snow. Yep! Fun times!
KathEats says
I was worried about a blizzard as well! Mazen loves the new place. Once the toys were here he was happy!
Emily S says
Is there a spot to make a little hideout for Mazen? I adored his book reading nook/fort at the old house! 🙂
KathEats says
There is an under-the-stairs closet but right now it’s filled with his baby clothes! Maybe once those are gone I could do another fort when he’s a little older : )
Kim Weigand says
What???? I want to see the grand tour. I really enjoy your “home posts”.
Brenda says
Me too! I hope we at least get to see the kitchen where you make the yummy meals you eat. 🙂 Congratulations on your new house!
Rachel Hertel says
Yes! This! Please do a home tour or two. I LOVE “home posts”! 🙂
Bethany says

Jess says
Congrats on your new house!! I do hope you’ll change your mind on giving a tour; you have a good eye for design, and I’d love to see the decor in your new place! Congrats again! (Super jealous, btw!)
Sam @ Grapefruit & Granola says
Wow, congratulations on moving! We purchased a home when we first got married and unfortunately have never been able to sell it when we relocated to NC. It has actually turned into a great rental property, but makes us hesitant to purchase another home! The only mishap we had when we moved was the movers broke the glass on our coffee table. It ended up not being that big of a deal because they replaced it.
Ash Bear says
Congratulations on your new home! These pics look gorgeous already AND hooray for natural light!
Becky says
Wow! Can’t believe you did it without us all suspecting anything! Nice work! But would LOVE to see your new place!
Rachel @ Lou Lou Belle says
That is sneaky! Us readers had no idea! Congrats on the purchase and new place! Can’t wait to see a tour of the house! Hopefully, you’ll share your stylish home with us!
Joanna says
Where did you get that lovely dining room table? Congrats on the new house!

KathEats says
New!
Bonnie says
Congrats on your home!! It’s so exciting to build and with the family it’ll be a special place for sure!
This is a really random question – where did you get the grey and yellow bag hanging on the hook in the first pic?! I have been looking for something like it for work!
KathEats says
It’s from Loehmann’s which is sadly now closed 🙁
Bonnie says
Bummer!
Eliza says

Chelsea @ Designs on Dinner says
Wow, that seemed so quick! (But I bet it wasn’t for you). It will be nice to have a new house to put some love into. 🙂
Martha says
Congratulations! Moving is always stressful. When I moved into my apartment almost 6 years ago, my queen sized box spring wouldn’t go up the staircase (I lived on the second floor) so my then-boyfriend (now husband) and one of our friends had to tie rope around it and lift it up over my deck. When my husband and I moved into our house two years ago, the box spring got down via rope…and then wouldn’t go up our staircase in our house putting dents into the sheetrock. We ended up selling the box spring and purchasing a split queen box spring. I echo everyone else in saying that we want to see pictures of the house.
KathEats says
Out the window! That’s hilarious. We once had to send a couch back that wouldn’t fut in our old basement
mary @ minutes per mile says
congrats on the new (dream) home! how exciting.
Alex @ True Femme says
How fun! Enjoy your new home! I’ve lived in approximately a thousand places in the last few years (not a thousand, but almost a dozen), which is what happens when you’re doing the whole graduate student/multiple program type thing. I am looking forward to being in one place long enough to really decorate it and make it feel like home!
Hannah @ eat, drink and save money says
Please do a home tour! I know you focus on food, but I love seeing your home style too. Congrats!
Laurie says
My hubby and I moved 6 times in the first 9 years of marriage: From Utah to China, to Texas, to California, to Japan, to Singapore and then we lived in Hong Kong where we stayed for many years. We raised our 4 kids in Asia, then moved back to Utah and it seems like every time we moved, my husband was out of town!! Our most recent move was to Taiwan but now we are in the States again. Moving is a pain but it is also such an exciting adventure!!! I loved every place we lived. Congratulations!!
KathEats says
Wow! I can’t imagine that many moves!
Amanda @ Life To Table says
A very pretty house!
Melissa says
How’d you keep it a secret? LOL.
Also, my husband I have moved….6 times (I had to count LOL) in 8 years, one of those being at 6 months pregnant, a week after our wedding! We haven’t had any disasters, but I’m glad we’re buying the place we’re in now. I hate moving with a passion.
KathEats says
Moving always happens at odd times!
marcie says
Nice! Congratulations to you and your family! 🙂
Enjoy!
Tracy says
Congratulations on your move! What a surprise!

Hannah says

Laura says
Congratulations! We just recently moved out of Cville:(:(, in February, and it all went reasonably well. This was my first time working with professional movers, and I’m very glad that nothing substantial was broken! I’ll be looking forward to how you explore your new area-I hope your blog is going to keep me up to speed on the cool things in Cville!
Christine says
I was moving out of my garden apartment and could not get my sofa through the door and up the stairs. My future father-n-law had to cut my sofa apart with a saw. Yes, I had to trash my very first sofa I bought with a saw because we could not leave it in the apartment and the landlord did not want it. How the heck did the furniture delivery people get it down there I will never know. lol!
KathEats says
Haha -what comes in must go out right!?
Caitlyn says
Wow, congrats! When was the big move? I’d love a house tour!
Lauren @ sassy molassy says
Ah, you do the best house/room tours! Would love to get some more peaks at how you have decorated! 🙂
Sarah says
Aaaah so exciting!!! Love what I have seen so far of the new house. You said you aren’t going to be doing a house tour post – are you changing the blog to being strictly about food? I totally loved your house and lifestyle posts in addition to the food posts. I’d miss the decorating and organizing tips if you did 🙁
Bobbie says
Congrats on your new move Kath! Do you think this will now be your forever home? I only ask b/c we’ve been in our house 10 years. We planned on staying 5…LOL
KathEats says
Yes!
Connie says
Congrats! I echo what others have said about a house tour! I remember when you did the House Hunters type reveal on your last house. So fun. When did you move? Good luck, and enjoy creating new memories!
Alyse says
I would love a house tour of your new place! I know you just said you weren’t planning on it, but I love your style and am dying to know what the new place is like! Congrats! I will live vicariously through you as I live in a 500 square foot one bedroom apartment in Greenwich Village NYC.
Amelia @ Eating Made Easy says
Congratulations, Kath! What fun! I love a fresh start. Looks like a beautiful place from these photos 🙂 xoxo
Ali @ Whisk and Repeat says
When my hubby and I moved last summer, he drove a U-Haul for seven hours in the blazing August southern sun. The A/C cut out 30 minutes after he had been on the road! All the moving hiccups make for good stories later! 🙂
KathEats says
Ahhh! That happened to me when I moved out of college, but luckily we didn’t have far to drive : )
Ashley Saul says
Congratulations! Can’t wait to see final pictures of the whole house!
robin says

I thought something was up! The kitchen looked so different lately (definitely more light!)! Congrats! Were you house hunting at all or the perfect place just came available?
KathEats says
We weren’t house hunting, but I was always looking and we just knew!
Danielle says
Even better then! The fun of a new place w/o the stress of house hunting!
Laura says
Congrats on the new house!!
I too would love to see a tour. Maybe there’s a way to show off a few rooms while still retaining some privacy? pretty please! : )
Nancy says
I vote for a house tour!!
Jeanie says
Congratulations on your new house! It’s been so many years (30+) since I moved, I’m not sure I have a story to tell. I would love it if you post a tour of your new home!
Sarah says
Another vote for house tour (of some sort)House/ cleaning/ organizing are my favorite part of the blog!
Meg says
Will you give us a glimpses of a few rooms at least? I absolutely love your home decor and organization posts – as an HGTV enthusiast and young home owner in search of my “forever home” – I look to them as inspiration. I am sure your new place is special given how incredible that porch of yours was.
I am impressed at how quickly and seamlessly you completed such a big project. Wonder woman!
Kait says
Aw, I notice you aren’t responding to the comments requesting more photos and some tours of the house!
Those are my absolute favorite posts on this blog, you are so thoughtful and detailed with them. Please consider it! I understand those posts are a lot of work, but it would be very much appreciated by your followers!

Congrats on the new place! It looks so light & airy from the few pictures (especially love the kitchen!). Hope it will be your forever home 🙂
Anne Weber-Falk says
I know you said no grand house tour but I do hope you will show us around a bit. Especially since you feel this is now your forever home and you’ve always shown us your other homes. It’s fun to see what other people do with their homes and to get new ideas from the decor.
Bobbie says
I agree with others… I know you said no grand house tour but I would love it if you did! Love your style and neatness … Consider sharing please !!
Jennifer Martin says
OH PLEASE do a tour! I just love your style, so simple and clean!
Melissa says
Congrats on the new house! I hope you change your mind and will share some photos. I loved looking at your great decorating and organization ideas you had in your house. I was trying to convince my hubby we needed a porch like yours (it still hasn’t happened!)
Sam says
Congratulations on your move!! I’ve been a reader since before you became an RD and I have found so much inspiration from you nutritionally, budgetarily, and decorationally (I don’t think that’s a word). I think people love your blog because you are so put together–and part of that has to do with how you run your home. Anyway, I will miss that a lot from your blog. I do realize you probably feel a need to retain some privacy for the sake of your family. It’s a tough call to make. But many congrats either way. It sounds like your move has brought nothing but joy to your lives. 🙂
KathEats says
budgetarily and decorationally are definitely words in my book : )
Amanda says
Congrats! I hope you’ll share some pictures once you get settled. I love seeing where my favorite bloggers cook the meals they show us, write the posts we love to read, and play with the kids!
Bridget Black says
Ohhh Id love to see it if you ever get the inkling about showing your new home. Congratulations 🙂
Cathy says
I am surprised you moved after all the remodeling you did. I am packing to move as well. Texas to Michigan. Enjoy your new home Kath. M is soooo cute.
Danielle Helena says
Oh WOW congratulations on the new home! And WHAAAT? No house tour? 🙁 You have given me so much inspiration with your beautiful home over the years. Love you guys! <3
Jennifer Valdés says
Congrats on your new house! How fun and exciting! We moved from FL to PA years ago and discovered that we were missing many things including my jewelry box. It didn’t have any high priced items but many things that meant a lot to me. Plus, we think our attic wasn’t even packed. 🙁 Unfortunately we didn’t figure this out until months later. We moved from PA to TX two years ago and you can bet we kept ALL valuables with us this time and made sure we had everything upon delivery. Lesson learned. 😉
KathEats says
Oh man, that is sad!
Kelly says
Oh congrats!!! I immediately thought “the porch!!” – I love that porch and have it saved in my “dream house” files! I hope your new place makes you just as happy. I’d also LOVE to see Home Neat Home make a comeback, but I understand if you’re not open to that anymore.
