I ordered soft shell crab for the first time tonight and was not disappointed! It was an experience getting over the visual, but was so delicious.
We had dinner at the Oregon Grill, a really cool restaurant out in the beautiful Maryland countryside. With the grandparents 🙂
To start, I had a cracker with a little bit of olive tampenade and a crab spread –
And toasted with one of my favorite wines – the Ferrari Carano Fume Blanc
For dinner I ordered a Strawberry-Spinach Salad with pecans and sharp cheddar. I doused it in balsamic vinegar. Fresh and tasty!
And had the soft shell crab, which was served with a size of shredded zucchini and a herb-lemon-butter sauce that I ordered on the side (good decision!)
Along with a side of sweet potato-wrapped asparagus! SO good. I will be replicating this at home. And I loved that it wasn’t covered in oil.
From above –
Check out my grandmother’s monster prime rib!! I had a bite. Talk about a huge portion!
I wasn’t going to have dessert so I ordered a decaf tea…
But of course I happily enjoyed bites from my mom’s Yeast Cake with Raspberries and Lemon Curd and my grandmother’s Raspberry Sorbet –
I loved how fresh my food tasted – not drenched in oil. And I ate a fair share of veggies! It was a great dinner out.
Off to read in bed. Tomorrow we’re hosting a 90th birthday party for my grandfather at his church so it’s up early to get things ready.
Goodnight all 🙂

The meal looks delicious. I might have to make a trip out there at some point, is it far from Baltimore?

Oh – I agree, the sweet potato-wrapped asparagus looks so good! The crab looks scary to me – but I’m not a fan of shellfish….I’m glad you enjoyed it though!
And you didn’t get dessert??? Wow, I’m impressed! 🙂 Good self control – I know you love dessert as much as I do. I actually struggled with the decision whether to get a blueberry scone at lunch today. I finally decided I would get it, but alas, the waitress said they were all out! 🙁 Oh well, that’s a good thing (I guess??).
Happy Birthday to Grandpa! What a sweet photo of everyone!

I love oregon grill! I grew up 5 min from there. For anyone in the area, it’s about 20-30 minutes from downtown- just up 83 near where the hunt valley mall used to be (exit 20 i think). Enjoy all the crabs! We are having a crab feast today for mother’s day 🙂

I wonder what the little white purse thing is on Kath’s plate? I might have to venture out of the city to baltimore…everything looks fantastic!

Ha, Kath, I came on to say how impressed I was that you could eat the crab like that…I love shellfish but only as long as it doesn’t actually look like it once might have walked the sea-floor! Also, I am a lazy diner and don’t like having to work for my dinner and I thought you’d have to root through the shell for the flesh, but from the comments I’ve learned that you eat EVERYTHING, shell and all?! Doubly impressed. I guess I need to open my mind, some!
This is my first time commenting but I’ve been reading for a while and I really enjoy your blog, reading about your (ever so healthy) eating habits, and your lovely family, thanks for sharing it all!
Becca says
ooo sounds like this place isn’t far from me! Yea!

im curious to see what the husband is eating, too….i say boxed mac and cheese and frozen pizza.

A mac and cheese pizza and batter dipped, deep fried chocolate donuts with a six pack of some tasty lager is my guess. Heh heh. I could not eat the crab that way. Frightens me. The sides however look awesome.
