The weather forecast all week predicted 40* and a steady rain for today. Sarah and I love to run together and had made plans while back to meet for a 10K this morning.
I emailed her earlier this week with the simple question: "Do we run in rain?"
Her response: "YES!"
So when I packed up my bags yesterday, I packed lots of outerwear. Had I planned a run by myself, I would have definitely stayed high and dry, but Sarah is hardcore and had her last long run of marathon training to do rain or shine, so Matt and I braved the elements with her.
Pre-race run at 7:30AM enjoying a grapefruit and a bananer
We ended up having a fabulous run (don’t you always have great runs when you least expect them!?) We ran 6.2 in 53:10 – probably a new record for me! Sarah’s Polar watch said our pace was 8:35 and my Garmin said 8:40 so take your pick 🙂 We hit some killer hills! I raced in the last 1/2 a mile at a sub-8:00 pace and my legs are sure feelin’ it now.
Sarah’s Mitochondria > My Mitochondria
We quickly showered at Sarah’s before heading out to the KERF Brunch
At the Mad Hatter
Matt was the photographer of me, Meg, Lacey, Sarah, Allie, Jessica, Lauren and the boyz!
I decided on a big bowl of fruit, yogurt + granola. Can’t beat it!! The granola was homemade and the whole dish was wonderful. I ate every drop!
I got a huge cappuccino as well
And a bite of Matt’s savory feast
After brunch we stopped by the Chapel Hill Great Harvest to say hello. This nice bear welcomed us in 🙂
Time to hit the road, Jack.
Jenn (www. j3nn.net ) says
LOL, you HAVE to be extremely dedicated to run in the rain!! I wouldn’t mind getting wet, but I’d worry about slipping.
The granola bowl looks so fresh and yummy. Love the little sausage patties on Matt’s plate.
It’s snowing here, I’ll trade you for the rain. 😉

Nice run! Delish looking brunch, too! 😉
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
Being dressed for the rain is key! Chafing is the worst part about rainy weather, so as long as you can get around that, it can actually be quite enjoyable. 😀
And I think your post-run eats was the perfect choice! Looks so fresh and delicious…yum!

Hi Kath,
I just discovered your blog a few days ago and am reading from the beginning on! I’m somewhere in September 2007 now. 😉 I changed my eating habits about 7 months ago but am still learning so much. I’m getting some great ideas from your blog! Love it all, and you look wonderful. 🙂
Cheers!

They’ll be up on Monday. I sent them over but it’s the weekend 🙂 And I dont’ think the actual posts will be up – just links (which is still fun because it means people will come over to KERF for a visit)
