Ahhhh. I read in bed for a good 45 minutes last night and the lights were out at 8:45. And I was dreaming when I woke up this AM – always a good sign of a good night’s rest.
Ready to take on the day!
I made a simple, non-traditional KERF breakfast: cereal with milk?
Featuring a portion of New Morning Oatios I received to sample…ages ago! They were like an airier Cheerios. But with 5 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber per cup. And very low in sugar (2g). Anything based on oats must be good!
So I filled my bowl with 1 cup of Organic Valley Yogurt (vanilla), ~2/3 a cup of Oatios (all that was left), a kiwi, half a huge banana, a sprinkle of granola and a sprinkle of chia seeds.
It tasted great and I loved the crunch. And I love how the yogurt drink acts as a thick milk for cereal.
But I’m not that full at all! I feel like I could eat a second breakfast of oatmeal. But I’ve learned in the past that sometimes breakfast that leave me still feeling empty (bread based, cereal based) still have the same number of satisfying hours. I just never feel full. It’s more of a straight line than an up and down. So we’ll see. I can always break into my lunch early 🙂
On the side I had a Bigelow Vanilla Chai tea mixed with Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride
Now if you’ll excuse me, Blair, Nate, Chuck, Serena and the rest are waiting for me to finish their episode! I have to leave for work in 14 minutes!
Mrs. Money says
It’s strange to see a cold cereal there. 🙂
Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says
Cereal NEVER fills me up. I could eat 3-4 bowls and leave hungry!
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
I LOVE cold cereal as much as you love oats. It’s nice to change things up every once in awhile, but there’s nothing wrong with having a favorite breakfast!
Hannah says
And who knows, maybe the chia will be the magical keep-you-satisfied ingredient! They’re pretty amazing little blighters!
Diana says
That cereal bowl looks really good. I ate cheerios this morning and you’re right, I never feel full when I eat it.
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
Looks like a neat new cereal! Have a wonderful Tuesday!
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
Mmm…sometimes nothing beats cold cereal!! 😀
And I can totally relate to that “straight line” talk that you were mentioning about never feeling full but never getting too hungry before lunch either. Strange but true. 😀
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
I can never eat cereal as a meal. Always a snack. I never get filled up from it. Normally it is a crunchy topper for my oatmeal! I never do the milk thing with it either. I love it with yogurt and fruit. I need to get some chia seeds. I bet that would be a good addition to the mix. have a great day!
Courtney (Pancakes & Postcards) says
I love cold cereal. I could eat bowls of it every single day! When I went home for Christmas (I live in Africa) it had been well over a year without cereal, and I am pretty sure I knocked off a Costco 3-pack of Honey Nut Cheerios in a couple of weeks. My problem with cereal is once I start eating it I absolutely cannot stop! It is worse than ice cream or anything else in that respect. I really want to learn how to be able to eat just one bowl… but until then I will stick to oats. Most of the time. Who am I kidding, I just had two huge bowls of crappy African cereal at lunch. Whoops.
Ann @ Appalachian Appetites says
I always eat two bowls when I have cereal 🙁 Really doesn’t fill you up!
Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) says
I love the simple pleasure of just reading in bed. I’ve started waking up 1/2 an hour earlier just to read in bed for half an hour before starting the day. It eases me into the morning. 😉
Amanda says
I lived in Copenhagen for 6 months and a milk-like yogurt was all they had but I really loved it! They had so many different flavors and none of them were too sweet and never had anything artificial. I would get a huge bag of muesli, it looked like a packaged of flour, and eat muesli raw drowned in strawberry milk-yogurt (very danish!). That was usually my go-to snack at night too it was so good! Whenever I talk about Denmark I miss it so much, such a healthy place!
Wei-Wei says
I’m not a big fan of cereal; I’ve always thought of it as an “airy” sort of food. Any sort of portion wouldn’t fill me up! I’m a much bigger fan of heartier breakfasts like oats, or eggs, or toast.
I love the tea, by the way! Bigelow Vanilla Chai smells heavenly… 😀
Have a great day!

I eat 6-7 times a day…so even after a big breakfast, I still have a big midmorning snack. You could do something like that, you’re so busy, you need that energy.
Yogurt in cereal is great. Add bananas and nut butters and stuff and that is great. I like raisins in cereal bowls too.
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I know what you mean about cereal not being filling! I usually need 2 servings to keep me satisfied!
Morgan @ Life After Bagels says
While I wasn’t in bed quite as early as you, I did get in there at a good time and more importantly had a GREAT sleep! I’m feeling very well rested as well 🙂
jenna says
cereal sounds great!
Christina says
I’m the opposite! Cereal keeps me full at first, but then I get hungry earlier.
Mara @ What's For Dinner? says
Interesting about the “straight line” effect of cereal… I think I have the same thing happen, but I tend to mistake it for actual hunger! Have a great day!
Freya @ Brit Chick Runs says
I always find flour-based things really unfillinf – like pancakes made with flour. But cereal is alright with me…hmm…
Nothing beats oatmeal!
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
Yay for sleep!! And YAY for Gossip Girl…I haven’t seen the most recent episode!
Daniel says
Cereal never really fills me up either, especially light ones like puffed whole grains or Kashi. Ezekiel cereal is pretty much the only one I eat now (have you tried this? It’s like Grape Nuts [I think] without all of the fortification) and with half of a banana, raisins, pistachios and soy milk I’m still starving right after eating it!
Teri [a foodie stays fit] says
I’m dying until the season 3 Gossip Girl DVDs come out. I just got hooked when I got season 1 & 2 from Netflix and now I can’t watch them on TV since I finished the old seasons in the middle of season 3 and I’m too cheap to buy them on iTunes. Ah, my life is hard! 🙂
Lauren says
That’s got to be the least boring bowl of cereal that I’ve ever seen in my life! I never eat it either. I dunno, just never seems satisfying enough.
Funky Lady says
I have a question! When you go to hot yoga classes…do you slip on the mat? I go to a Vinyasa class and the room is kept around 80-85 and I slip and slide all over the place. Someone recommended a product called Yogitoes, but it seems a bit pricey (on top of my already pricey yoga class). Any suggestions from anyone…or am I the only one with sweaty feet? 🙁
Kath says
You must get a Yogitoes!! I got one a few months after starting yoga and it’s totally non slip. I couldn’t do hot yoga without it! I do have one in my OpenSky store if you want to see more about it. No pressure to buy though!
Heather (www.runningwithsass.com) says
I am not used to “seeing” you eat cereal in the mornings lol! I love it!
Kailey (SnackFace) says
Hollaaaa to the cereal! I love it so much, but you’re right- it’s not always the most filling breakfast. Nothing is like oats! One breakfast I will not do because it never fills me up is a smoothie. I know, I know. Everyone has amazing concoctions, but I cannot get behind that! Anyway, have a faaab Tuesday!
Meg @ Be Fit Be Full says
I used to have cereal for breakfast every single weekday. I love cereal though! Once I started blogging I realized I needed to change things up though as most people perceive cereal to be a very boring breakfast option 🙂
Claire says
cereal doesn’t cut it for me in the morning so I usually eat it as a post dinner snack with some berries and coconut milk yogurt…but mid morning snacks are always good too!
Shawna @ Balancing Me says
Ok, love that bowl! Where is it from?
Jil @ Peace, Love & Munchies says
Sometimes all you need is the cold crunch of cereal in the morning. 🙂
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
I know what you mean. Cereal never gives me that full filling that oats do but if it’s a cereal with a lot of fiber and protein, then I won’t get hungry for a while.
I haven’t watched last night’s GG yet. I was SO upset about Blair and Chuck!! Can you tell I get waaaay too into tv?
Lisa says
I feel the same way! I never feel full after some breakfasts; scrambled eggs, cereal…
I definitely have to start telling myself “its okay not to be totally full”.
Heather (The Single Dish) says
What did you think of Gossip Girl? I am getting kind over Serena- her story lines this season are really annoying…I mean come on with Lilly’s fake illness and the evil Dad!!! That is so sad that a Dad would do that 🙁
Kath says
Shhhhhhhhhhh! No spoilers!! I actually didn’t get to finish it yet!
Marina says
I love any kind of cereal, but I eat small servings mostly for dessert. It just isn’t filling enough for a good breakfast!
And nothing is more comforting then a bowl of hot milk with yummy cereal in the evening 🙂
She-Fit says
I LOVE cereal but I always have the same problem every time I eat them. I’m never full or satisfied. I end up eating the whole box. Which is why I can’t have cereal in my house. I have no self-control 🙁 it’s just too good
Michelle says
Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride and Bigelow Vanilla Chai… I have both of those but have never tried that! Must experiment!
Annie@stronghealthyfit says
I don’t know how you get yourself in bed so early! Even when I know I have to get up early, I still have a hard time getting into bed before 11 or so. That might be because I am in my last week of college.
Cereal doesn’t fill me up either unless I have it with yogurt and some fruit!
Kath says
I get up at 5:26AM!
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
you know, i think it’s cool that you drew that conclusion about feeling full versus feeling satisfied…i think that’s a great reminder that i needed to hear today!
Kellie says
Sometimes my breakfast makes me feel like I could eat again too. I just pop some gum and hope that my stomach catches up with my brain.
Amber K says
I hate breakfasts that don’t leave me feeling full. I want to get to that satisfied point! But Kashi Go Lean always fills me up, especially if I have a piece of fruit too.
Camille says
I’ve found that even if I have cereal in a large portion, I am hungry again like 2 hours 🙁
Cereal=not a super-breakfast!
runnerforever says
I love cold cereal, but the problem is that soemtimes I love it a bit too much. It is one of the things that I can just keep eating bowl after bowl haha.
Paige(Running Around Normal) says
I hear ya I can never get full enough with cereal..gotta have 2 bowls!
Anne @ Food Loving Polar Bear says
Looks like my recent breakfasts 🙂
Jenn (www. j3nn.net ) says
Nothing like a bowl of cold, crispy cereal!. YUM 😀
Jenn
Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter says
Oatmeal definitely fills me up the most. I just had two pieces of toast and a parfait and I’m still hungry! 🙁
emily says
Off-topic but fyi: I know you like Biscoff cookies so I wanted to let you know that they make Biscoff spread. My husband is obsessed with the cookies so I bought him some and it is seriously out of control. The texture is like peanut butter and the taste is exactly like Biscoff cookies but somehow better. It could probably top off the best bowl of oats of all time 😀
Kath says
I haven’t had it yet – but sounds great 😉
Ashley says
Sometimes cereal is just SO satisfying..mmm Can’t wait to try the Organic Valley Kefir!
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
i love cheerios. i wonder if i’d like oatios?!
Veggielady4life says
I am such a fan of cold cereal… it’s ridiculous. I love Fiber One, Kashi GoLean and Kashi Heart to Heart. Sooo good…. I think I crave it like you crave oats!
Stacey@http://stacey-healthylife.blogspot.com/ says
I think it’s a mental thing. Oatmeal just feels so satisfying and stick to the ribs.
lisa says
That’s funny – as I went for my walk today, I was having a major craving for cold cereal. It must be a sign of warm weather! I usually top mine with raw walnuts or cashews to get some filling protein and fat into a carb-loaded breakfast. I like nut butters on cereal too, but as you’ve mentioned, they tend to sink…but more to search for while eating!
