We had a one heck of a weekend. But it seems like a lot of our weekends lately have been packed with excitement! This one felt like it lasted a week.
Starting on Friday evening we went downtown to the last Fridays After Five of the summer. We will miss them!! Nearly every one we get slices of pizza and eat sitting cross legged in the grass. M devoured this slice of wild mushroom pizza. I don’t know if he knew there was “fungus among us” (that’s for you Candace Tingen!) but he sure ate those shrooms!
Matt and I shared avocado and a spinach feta slices. Salad + pizza together.
Per usual, Mazen finished his pizza and proceeded to run around for 30 minutes straight before we headed back for a bubble bath and early bed time for us all.
Saturday morning we were all up early. Matt went to the bakery to do sponge and dough (the 3:30am shift) while M and I were up at 6:30 to get ready for the day.
Eggs, SB + J roll, coffee.
I dropped Mazen off at Sylvia’s at 8am and headed north for a soccer game in the rain.
90 minutes of running later, I headed home for a fast shower, and then Matt and I hit the road to head to Louisa for Alex + Crystal’s wedding!
Alex was one of the first employees that we hired at the bakery, and he has since gone on to do amazing culinary things! He’ll always remain dear to us for being part of our very first crew.
Unfortunately the weather is less than ideal – drizzling rain was coming down on their wedding day.
But may they have the best of luck!
The setting was beautiful regardless, and the bride looking radiant.
I loved the kissing bells that guests rang when they wanted the bride and groom to exchange a smooch. They doubled up as the seating chart.
And these “bubbly” bubbles were so cute
We were just waiting for someone to mistake them for champagne and take a sip!
We had a bunch of appetizers to kick things off
And then a taco bar with all the fixins for a midday dinner.
We had a *real* champagne toast and some truly heartfelt speeches that brought tears to my eyes. The bride and groom have lost three of the four of their parents, and their memory was all around us.
Then we moved onto the cake cutting
Surrounded by amazing Pearl’s Cupcakes!
Banana Pudding, German Chocolate, Lemon Vanilla and Red Velvet.
We picked Banana Pudding and Lemon – a very hard decision!
But who am I kidding – when there were tons leftover after all the guests had had a taste, we tried the other two flavors as well! They were all fabulous!!
The sun even decided to make an appearance!
We wish them the best of luck!
Mazen was happy as an be at Sylvia’s all day! We headed home to a low key evening.
Sunday morning we were invited to Karen’s for a brunch with some of her dear friends from Davidson who were in town.
We had egg and sausage casserole, toast and watermelon
And then relaxed on the porch for a while.
Some of us ran off our breakfasts. Others simply digested.
I went grocery shopping and then got together with some of my girlfriends for an afternoon of wine and chocolate – for a special upcoming blog post!
Hope you had a great weekend as well!

Your weekend looked like a lot of fun! I got married this summer and it did not stop raining the whole day! Although the rain changed our plans a little bit, it was so much fun that I quickly forgot about the weather! 🙂

Oooooh — can’t wait to hear about the wine + chocolate 😉
Alex @ True Femme says
Moscato + lemon pepper white chocolate –> seriously, you have to try this! Unreal.
Anyway, the bride looked gorgeous and best wishes to them! The food looks amazing too–those banana pudding cupcakes? Sign me up!
KathEats says
Where does one find lemon pepper white chocolate!?
Alex @ True Femme says
I found it at a store in Seattle called the Chocolate Box (http://www.sschocolatebox.com/)–the manager had us take a sip of the most amazing Moscato (which was from Asti, Italy though they specialize in local wine and I also bought an incredible iced cider), eat a bite of the chocolate and then take another sip of the Moscato.
Here is one online vendor (the brand is Gusto): http://www.fortechocolates.com/everyday.php?h_type=bars
We also bought the rosemary sea salt chocolate but haven’t tried it. The lemon pepper flavor isn’t overpowering at all, in fact it’s very smooth with just the slightest kick. Let me know if you try it! I can get you the name of the exact Moscato we had too if you’re interested. It was so good we shipped a case home!

Thanks for the info!
