This weekend we had the pleasure of driving up to Georgetown for the wedding of Matt’s fraternity brother, David, and his beautiful bride, Lauren.
Matt left on Friday by train so he could attend the rehearsal and festivities as a groomsman, and Maze and I went to Fridays After Five and to bed at 9pm. (I think we were getting up when Matt was going to bed!)
Saturday morning Karen and I drove up to Georgetown to join everyone. Karen graciously offered to babysit for us during the wedding and took M on a picnic with two of her friends.
We had a great time reuniting with many of our college buddies!!
Casey and I talked about being moms while the guys discussed old times and drinks
The ceremony was a few blocks away, so we all walked from the church to the reception.
So glad I brought some walkin’ shoes in my purse!
The reception was held at Dumbarton House, a historic picturesque garden setting.
We sipped drinks and nibbled on passed apps until the bride and groom made their entrance.
Lauren was stunning!
I loved their menus – both in paper and in food!!
One of the best wedding meals I have ever had. I feel like buffets are so popular, but this was a night where a plated dinner really shone.
The salad was one of the best I have ever had!! Buffalo mozzarella with watercress with sliced grapes, edible flowers, parmesan crisps in a lavender-honey-lime vinaigrette. Underneath it all was a pistachio pesto of sorts. Incredible!
The main course was a perfectly rare beef tenderloin topped with sautéed mushrooms and spinach, Maryland crabcake with a peppercorn sauce, sweet corn soufflé, asparagus and tomatoes. I couldn’t decide which of the flavors I liked the most!
Lauren made Oreo truffles as favors for each place, so these served as First Dessert : ) Loved the peanut butter the best! I can’t believe how many of these she must have assembled.
Second dessert !!!!
Check out their adorable cicadas. David said he thought they would be swarming so why not embrace it, but I have to say I think these were the only two cicadas in the room ; )
OREO cake!! Gah I loved this filling. They also had red velvet and carrot cake. I had bites of all three from friends – but the Oreo was my fav.
We spend the rest of the night dancing to a great band!

Oh I love the back of her dress – it’s so gorgeous. What fancy dinner food too! I am so loving all the wedding recaps going on right now. I’m in complete wedding planning mode right now and it’s so much fun to see what other people are doing. I wish more of my friends would get married so I could go to weddings too. I’ve only been to one in the last 20 years! Crazy 🙂
Beth @ Mangoes and Miles says
Everything looks SO fantastic…except the cicadas. While it’s great that they were embracing something as annoying as those little buggers, I HATE bugs…even ones that are made out of frosting. Those little red eyes creep me out!
Uhm, but, everything still looks fantastic. 🙂
KathEats says
Haha. Luckily they were removed. I love frosting and fondant so much I would have eaten them – bugs and all!
Aubrey says
Oh I love the idea of oreo cake! haha That is awesome! As we start to plan the details of our wedding, we’ve been going back and fourth about the cake… who knew it could be such a difficult decision! 🙂

Random question: when you need to have a late night (like putting Maze to bet at 9 instead of his regular bed time) how do you swing it? We’re about to have a couple family events that necessitate such a move, and I’m wondering what your day looks like when bedtime gets moved?
KathEats says
We used to be able to swing it, but now I think we just have to start using babysitters. I had to leave my sister’s rehearsal dinner early to put M to bed. It was sad. But we had a sitter for the wedding. Same with this wedding – Karen watched him. We can stretch his bedtime to 8 or 8:30 but not much beyond that.
Mary Ann says
Cool, thanks! That’s pretty much what we’ve come to, as well. Missing those summer evenings but loving chubby cheeks!
Tonya says
Hey, you were in my neck of the woods! I love to play in Georgetown. Was there last night by the waterfront. Can’t beat the nightlife there. I haven’t seen a single cicada yet this year which is odd. They tend to come out in full force when it’s their time.
kyla says
You really should consider a wedding photography business. Your pictures are always so beautiful and really capture the moments.
Jane @ Not Plain So Jane says
Oreos galore! Oreos are a pretty awesome ingredient to make any dessert. My personal favorite will always be the “dirt dessert” served at Halloween time 🙂
Georgia-Mae Morrison says
The best wedding I’ve ever been to was in North Carolina. Every single one of your blog posts makes me want to move there, it is so stunning and green!
And oreo cake at a wedding?!? That’s awesome. That’s going to be a happy marriage. haha!
Stacey says
I love everything about out east. You have all the beautiful structures with tons of historical value. In my opinion it’s such a wonderful place to get married [and probably live :)]!
Caitlin C says
Kath! Do you know by chance what caterer they used? We’re getting married next year and I’m currently scouting out caterers–the food looked amazing!
KathEats says
I dont but they were incredible!
KathEats says
Found out – they were called Occasions!

Oh fun!!
Maureen says
Her dress! Her hair! I just LOVE weddings! 🙂
Laura says
What a beautiful wedding! I especially love the cicada cake topper – I live in Florida and could totally see someone doing a “lovebug” one here. They are everywhere!
My husband and I also own a small business, and I so admire how you and Matt are seemingly able to travel pretty freely. Do you have any good tips or suggestions for the best way to go about that as a small business owner? I think I’m too much of a control freak to leave the business in the hands of someone else that much! 🙂
KathEats says
I’m not sure what to tell you! I guess we just train and trust our employees, but it can be nerve wracking – especially longer trips.
The Many Thoughts of a Reader says
I’m not a huge fan of cake, but oreo cake I can get behind.

Wow the food at this wedding looks great! 3 different cake flavors…I bet you were in icing heaven!

Oreo cake as a wedding cake?! How awesome is that?!
Ana says
Are the blue denim shoes the ones you changed into to walk? Or the silver flip flops? Just curious,
neither looks like walking shoes to me.
Also wondering, was everyone’s beef rare? That’s the great thing about a buffet like your sister had, people can choose what they like to eat. Not everyone likes their meat uncooked.
Looks like a lovely day though! I love the bride’s hair and dress. Elegant but not stuffy.
KathEats says
The silver sandals are the most comfortable shoes ever and I brought them in case we walked. The denim shoes were my wedding shoes.
Kelli H (Made in Sonoma) says
Her dress looks amazing on her! I’m loving all these weddings you’re going to.
Meghan says
Love her dress! OMG Oreo wedding cake! So nice of Karen to watch Mazen for you.
Amy says
A beautiful dress…………but what’s going on with the straps? Sometimes there and sometimes not.
KathEats says
I think she just had multiple options – perhaps the straps got uncomfortable? She had a beautiful lace overlay for the ceremony too.
Maggie @ Sunnyside Up Smile says
What a beautiful wedding! And the food looks delicious too 🙂 I love your dress (the bride’s gown is gorgeous too but I think yours is great!).

What a beautiful wedding. I was maid of honor this weekend and I laughed so hard that everybody had flat shoes in their clutches (no matter how small they were)! We have even all switched from heels at the same time! 🙂
Kate says
Beautiful wedding! Looks like a lovely evening. I’m just wondering though…when you attend a friend’s wedding, do you ask their permission to post photographs from the event to your blog? I’m just thinking of a few weddings I’ve been to lately where the bride and groom have specifically asked that friends not post pictures to social media until they’ve had a chance to do so themselves!
KathEats says
Yep, they gave their blessing
Alyssa says
Beautiful!
