We had some special visitors this weekend! Everyone loves it when Grammie Buzz and Pea visit!
We had the perfect balance of time spent with my parents and free babysitting. My parents like to hang with Mazen alone, so it was a win win!
After they arrived on Saturday, we walked downtown on a chilly afternoon to the Discovery Museum.
Mazen looks very warm and relaxed, don’tchathink?
He had a great time playing.
Saturday night after bedtime Matt and I snuck out for a fabulous date night. It was quite cold!!
But that didn’t stop us from having giant ice cubes at Commonwealth!
The above was actually not a Manhattan – it was a drink called The Jake made from a fortified wine that was supposed to mimic a Manhattan without the strength of bourbon. I loved it!
We sat down to dinner in one of the few booths at Commonwealth with two other friends – celebrating the husbands’ birthdays.
We all shared two rounds of empanadas to start – vegetarian and beef. I though the veg one ruled.
For dinner I had Cornmeal Crusted Sea Bass with black beans and tomatillo sauce. It tasted good, but it was missing a third side – some potatoes or polenta or something.
We also had an amazing marshmallow dessert, but I was too engrossed in conversation to snap a picture.
We headed upstairs to Sky Bar after and met more friends for a fun time. Despite being in a tent with heaters, it was freezing!
Sunday morning we headed out to brunch at The Nook
Somebody loved his broccoli and cheese omelet!
I had a Belgian waffle and shared Mazen’s omelet for a little protein
Sunday afternoon Matt and I went to see The Hobbit!! The second movie was even better than the first. And 3 hours went by really fast…
We fit in our Sunday meal plan prep during naptime and also made dinner – another Cook Smarts Chicken Pot Pie! This recipe is so easy, even with Matt’s homemade crust on top.
Mom and dad loved it alongside a simple salad
Monday morning we said goodbye over cinnamon chip French toast and a final run outside for me. Our 60* coat-free weather is taking a turn for the worse today – snow expected!!

Hi kath! I loved yesterday’s post and today’s post! Such inspiring ideas and meal plans! Question…would you consider doing a post on grocery budgeting considering the cost of organic foods. Maybe share some ideas on how you guys cut cost? Also maybe another day in the life of post? I just love those 🙂 thanks for listening!

Sure, on my radar 🙂

Everything looks great, but somehow the simple French Toast picture (the last) appeals to me the most! It’s snowing in NYC right now and it’s stunning- I’m loving this! And next week I head back to Harvard for my last semester (oy vey).

Fun weekend! I am a sucker for a good Belgian waffle, especially with real maple syrup. Boo for temps getting colder again. It’s 61 and sunny here today with temps dropping tonight. Darn #chs.

Looks like a fun weekend! I’m glad to hear you liked the second Hobbit movie! I really want to see it, but my boyfriend said the reviews weren’t great. He loved the first one so maybe with your recommendation I can get him to the theater!

For some reason, The Jake, reminds me of the drink Ryan Gosling makes in Crazy, Stupid, Love! All of the food here looks so good – the pot pie especially!

Your waffle is naked! Did it come with fruit or anything? Here they are usually served with fruit and whipped cream or a warm fruit compote and syrup.
KathEats says
I added butter + syrup : ) Fruit would have been nice!

My internet pooped out so I don’t know if this will comment twice, but I loved all the snapshots of family time. I am trying to do better about having my camera on hand!

I thought The Desolation of Smaug was better than An Unexpected Journey too! We have seen Desolation twice and we will probably go again at least one more time before it’s out of theaters.

What a fun weekend! DH and I are having our own date night tonight (party at a friends house) while the wild child has a sleepover at Nanny’s house. They plan to build a tent for him to sleep in. Aren’t grandparents great? Glad you got to connect with family and still had some couple time! All the food looks great.
