Grammie Buzz and Pea came to visit this weekend!
(Grand Pepaw has transformed into simply P which I think is cuter as Pea!)
We had a great time eating and playing.
Thursday we went on our date night. Before we left, we set the grandparents up with homemade pizza, salad and wine.
We put Mazen to bed and left them watching him sleep on monitor. Luckily all went well!
The next day we went to Great Harvest to visit the bunnies
And ate sandwiches. Pimento cheese is the best!
And read stories
Lots of playing and napping followed!
That night we grilled mushrooms and asparagus
And ate burgers (mine was a leftover Mamapea millet burger)
What was Matt thinking!?
The Easter grandma brought some treats for Mazen and me that we split up for dessert that night
I enjoyed these so much in a variety of little bite-sized pieces!
Saturday breakfast. Hot cross bun, banana + PB and yogurt.
I went to the gym and then after noon nap we went out to lunch
To Eppies, where I had the best Santa Monica salad with black beans and cornbread
We had fabulous weather so we were able to sit outside! Mazen likes his new Uppababy G-lite petite umbrella stroller : ) (We got a 2012 model on sale)
I took advantage of mom being here and prepared dinner after lunch since they were heading back to NC later that afternoon. Then I just had to put it in the oven when I was solo again.
Marinated tofu in Bone Suckin’ sauce, sweet potato fries and kale chips. The sweet potato was totally fine being cut open hours before it baked. I put it in the fridge covered in the mean time.
Coconut butter was the best part –
Plus the last baby bread bunny standing!
Our little Easter ham
We hosted Easter dinner for Matt’s aunt+uncle+cousins and Karen.
The fish was rolled in Whole Foods’ Lemon Almond panko and then seared and baked for 10 minutes. It was perrrrrfect!
I love asparagus most grilled <3
I made the risotto in the rice cooker. It was really good, but not quite as good as a traditional risotto. But given the hands-off time, I’ll take it. Peas, cremini mushrooms and risotto rice plus parmesan, butter and 2 tbsp heavy cream to finish.
We had Great Harvest pesto parmesan swirl and hot cross buns!
Karen’s cheesecake was the BEST! The crust….toffee love!
Lindsay says
What stroller did you end up going with?
KathEats says
Uppababy G-Lite
Lindsay says
Nice! How do you like it? We looked at that one but the store didn’t have any in stock so we ended up going with the Uppababy G-Luxe
KathEats says
So far so good!
Carly @ Snack Therapy says
Omg, Mazen’s big eyes! And his cardigan! And that cheesecake! I’m dying over here!
Jennifer says
I love your chalkboard menu. What a cute idea!
That stroller looks really nice. Good choice.
Mazen has got to be the happiest baby. 🙂 He’s got such a sweet smile and he always looks so happy. I can see a lot of your mom in his face.
I’m glad you all had a nice Easter.
Jane @ Not Plain So Jane says
Mazen is seriously too cute! Such good eats Kath! I think I’ll grill my asparagus tonight instead of roast. Whole Foods will marinate any fish you buy from them for free (not sure about the bread crumbs though). They are good at pairing flavors if you’re not in the mood to think of something yourself or spend the extra $ on the pre-marinated ones they offer.
Amanda, RD- The Nutritionist Reviews says
That was so nice of you to set them up with pizza and wine! Looks like a fun time.
Cait's Plate says
Aw. what a wonderful way to celebrate Easter 🙂 Love the last set of photos!
Jola says
The baby bread bunny is the best!
Amanda Cowan says
The Easter Bunny brought a cinnamon chip bunny-shaped loaf for my kiddos. Well, my kiddos and the adults, who all enjoyed it immensely. I didn’t see any of the baby ones at our Farmers Market, but maybe they were out or just didn’t make them. I notice they seem to carry different breads than you show. Perhaps a store-by-store thing? I chatted for awhile with the young man. Such a nice company, though as much as I love the bread, we can’t justify the costs of it on a regular basis. I love the sweet breads for an occasional Sunday treat though.
KathEats says
: )
Alex @ Raw Recovery says
Oddly enough, your Easter menu looks a lot like ours! We also had fish, risotto with peas, and GH bunny bread and rosemary rolls 🙂 I grew up in the Greek Orthodox church and they use a different calendar, so this year our Easter is in May. However, I get to celebrate two Easters and did an “adult easter egg hunt” with close family friends. We hunted for money and drank beer while we did it 🙂
Natalie @ Will Jog For Food says
Looks like a great weekend with tons of good eats! What a happy family 🙂

KathEats says
A friend made it for me. It was available for sale, but not anymore : (
Lisa @bitesforbabies says
Awe, too bad! I’ll keep looking then 😉
Anne says
Off topic, but I have to know! Was yesterday’s post an April Fool’s joke?? I mean, I know you like sardines and all, and I know you’ve written before about how nutritious they are, but I’m not sure you’d really put them on oatmeal…
On topic: your Easter menu sounds delicious! And I 2nd (3rd? 4th?) the requests for the cheesecake recipe. Yumm!!
KathEats says
Yes, yes 🙂
But the more I thought about it, it wasn’t thhhhat gross!! I’m sure there are plenty of countries who eat fish for breakfast. But yes, for me, it’s not going to be my latest menu rotation : )
Anne says
What a relief! I kinda figured, but then I came here looking for the “Haha! Fooled you!” post today and when there wasn’t one, I started thinking maybe you really did eat it! 🙂
KathEats says
🙂
Jane @ Not Plain So Jane says
A lot of Asian cultures eat seafood in savory porridge for breakfast!

Love the first pic of Grandpa & M! So many cute pics of Mazen 🙂
Jun says
You look amazing! I think nutritious meals, regular exercise play its roles, but most importantly I suppose it’s because you’re always carrying such a bright and positive attitude in life that you’re literally glowing every second.
Brittnie (A Joy Renewed) says
Is that a Chewbeads Hudson necklace (yellow) that you have on? Does Mazen enjoy chewing on it? I have seen those around (and have one in my Amazon cart online to buy and try out for Clara) but keep going back and forth. How often do you wear it? Love all your pics!
KathEats says
He does like chewing on them but I don’t wear them that often. More often he just plays with it at home. They are great for chew though
Brittnie (A Joy Renewed) says
Great! Good to know, thanks!
Bruna @ morgbu.com says

How do you define “real food”? This is how I define it- http://www.100daysofrealfood.com/real-food-defined-a-k-a-the-rules/ and those Easter candies, among other things I have seen on your blog, do not fit that definition of real food.
KathEats says
No, they’re not real food. But I don’t eat a 100% perfect diet. My goal is 80/20 real food to realistic food.
Emily says
I’m also a believer of the 80/20 guideline. Cutting foods out of your life entirely can backfire – making them even more enticing because they’re forbidden. In terms of happiness and health, I think it’s best to enjoy everything in moderation.
And I love 100 days of real food, but the Leakes occasionally eat junk food outside of the home, they just don’t keep it in the house 🙂
Lisa Langenfeld says
Happy Easter!! I’m catching up on your posts, and especially loved this one 🙂 You are such a cute and loving family! I thoroughly enjoy your blog and seeing little Mazen grow up. Have a beautiful day!
Nicole says
Oh! The gummy smiles kill me! Too cute!
