A little late coming, but here are the rest of our weekend photos : )
Classic Cville summertime – Fridays After Five, City Market, and a date night at Commonwealth! I also went to a baby shower (more cupcakes!) and ran/walked 7 miles on Sunday in some great weather. And spent many hours crawling around on the floor playing <3
Fridays Friends! Friday dinner was a corn + bean + basil salad with a loaf of spinach feta bread.
Saturday we went to the market in the heat of the day. I had a No Bull Burger for lunch.
Baby shower cupcake decorating fun at Sweet Haus!
Date night was fabulous!
Manhattan to drink
Husband and open air dining
Goat cheese + yuca fritters
And amazing Red Bean + Coconut Rice cakes with collard greens!
Matt had the duck – which was awesome – and we shared this bowl of sautéed shitake mushrooms and parsnips. These shrooms were so meaty I couldn’t believe they were a vegetable.
For dessert we stopped in to say hi to our neighbors and I had a cookie from their cookie jar! I have the recipe too – making them soon : )
Sunday Bongo Playin’!
The next weekend is almost here!

Just curious .. what is you exercise routine like these days? I remember seeing a lot of running posts and what not .. I would love to hear how you got back into physical activity after a baby
KathEats says
I’m doing tons of walking + running outside, but now that it’s hot I’m going to try to get back to the gym more.
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
Love the videos! 🙂 And your nails (I assume they’re yours – ha!) are so cute. Is that a manicure or stick ons or what?
KathEats says
Nail “wraps” by Jamberry! My friend Sara sent them – she has a shop here.
Carly @ Snack Therapy says
Ahh, weekends. I don’t have Friday classes this summer so my weekend starts at 7:25pm tonight. Wahoo! I love your date night dress. It’s so summery and it looks super comfy, which is definitely one of my top requirements in any outfit.
Cyndi says
Where did you get that amazing dress? Super cute!
KathEats says
It’s from Athleta!
Aisling @ Sunny Side Up says
Very envious of your Fridays After Five. Picnic as much as I can but Irish summers are a little less reliable than yours so it’s more of a last minute thing. Don’t you think food eaten outdoors tastes wonderful! Hope you’re enjoying the change in blog format, still loving reading all about KERF! x
Marisa @ Uproot from Oregon says
We can always expect a no bull burger from you on farmers market days : ) I love that you always go outside on Friday nights with Mazen and socialize him with other adorable kids- you have built an amazing support group!
Hannah @ Sprints & Scones says
Congrats on the 7 miles- that’s a lot!! I’m in love with that dress, btw!

Cute nails! My husband loves Manhatten’s…I enjoy a couple of sips but not sure if I could polish off an entire drink…the cherry juice makes it in my opinion! 🙂
Tiffany says
Beautiful photos, as always!! Mazen is adorable!!
I want to make your whole wheat dough recipe…by an chance do you or Matt know if the dough can be made with whole wheat pastry flour? Thanks!!
KathEats says
I believe so. I think he (the expert) would say it has less gluten (protein) and might not knead up as well. But yes, I think it will work
Brenda says
I would not recommend making a whole wheat bread with only pastry flour. Pastry flour has a very low protein percentage, and protein in flour is what leads to gluten production when the protein is exposed to water. To put it in perspective, AP flour goes anywhere from 8-11% protein, bread four (from which bread is typically made, obviously) is 12-14% protein, cake flour is 8-10% protein, and pastry flour is somewhere between cake and AP. Although some breads are made with all AP flour or a mix of AP and bread flour, going any lighter on the protein could end in a crumbly bread, and from my understanding it doesn’t work well with yeast in general.

Looks like a fun weekend!
A few of my dietetic internship girls and I are planning a relaxing weekend trip to Charlottesville in the next few weeks. Is there a website you recommend of good activities/restaurants/markets etc? I’ve found some but not sure if a “local” would have a better idea? Thanks!
KathEats says
I have a handful on my Cville page of restaurants and things. Also try Cville Niche Buzz blog!

This reminds me that I haven’t been on a date night in MONTHS. Definitely something to put on the agenda. 🙂 Everything looks delicious as always. I just moved away from Virginia–going to miss No Bull burgers a lot!!! They are the best.

I LOVE that picture of you and Mazen! I also love how you feature lots of local foods and products, that is so great. We have such a great little foodie community here too in Portland, Maine.

Love Mazen’s bongo playing! My 9 mo old does the same right now and loves to mimic her big (3 yr old!) brother! She also has two little pumpkin teeth like Mazen. So fun seeing how these little loves are developing!
