We made the most of our beautiful 80 degree weather this weekend with two fun outdoor events. I’m so sad it’s over.
Friday night the weather wasn’t so nice and forced us to stay inside. Matt and I ate leftovers and sipped Manhattans once Mazen went to bed.
Wild rice + Pot Luck Farm lima beans + Caromont Farm Goat Feta + Great Harvest Spinach Feta + Squash from our garden all happy together in a bowl
Saturday morning Maze and I headed out to the city market covering 3.5 miles in an hour and a half. Screenshot from my Endomondo app!
I picked up some more peaches but I was also excited to get my hands on a few apples too!
When Matt came home we packed up the car and drove way into the country to Devil’s Backbone Brewery for the Virginia Craft Brewers Fest.
The event was poorly planned from a ticket purchasing standpoint, but we had fun nonetheless.
Our friends Rosie + Kevin and Meg + John {<—talented brewer at Starr Hill!} were there with their babies. In fact, it seemed there were more kids and babies at this festival than a Fridays After Five!
BOB strollers represent!
Will. Not. Keep. Hat. On!
There was tons of great craft beer to sample. I let Matt The Brewer have all the fun so I could drive us home safely.
I did taste two beers that are now high on my favorite beers list: the Williamsburg Alewerks Jubilee (a Belgian Quad) and the Blue Mountain Spooky – a bourbon barrel pumpkin beer!
This one is for you dad!
We settled down for some music to round out the afternoon and let the babies run wild
And run wild they did!!
This amazing brie and apple grilled cheese totally hit the spot for a late afternoon snack. Grabby hands big and small went after it.
When we headed home, Matt and I picked up a pizza from Belmont Pizza, watched a documentary on Jamestown and went to bed early.
Because there was more fun to be had on Sunday!
After eggs and toast for breakfast, I put Mazen down for his 10am nap, left Matt chillin’ on the couch and went for a 5 mile run. The weather was crisp and cool, and without the stroller I found myself back under sub-9:00 miles. That is until I got dehydrated! I started to wish I had the stroller with me because water is always within arm’s reach. Nevertheless, I finished strong and incredibly red in the face!
After showers and a light lunch, we headed out to King Family Vineyards for their Sunday afternoon polo match! Sadly the actual polo was cancelled, but there were hundreds of people still out on the field tailgating. I can’t believe I’ve lived here for 3 years and have never been!
It was the perfect setting for babies to play. M loved the short grass and even stood up all by himself from a squat!
This photo should be in a commercial for a Toyota Highlander!! This was our first time tailgating with an SUV and boy was it fun. The SHADE alone was much appreciated. Have I mentioned how much I heart our automobile!?
One of my BFFs Sarah was coordinating an event for the Junior League so we set up as her neighbor (and provided part of the picnic spread from the bakery)
We had a grand time until Mazen was ready to go home for his nap.
Later that night Matt and I were too full from cheese and bread in the afternoon to make a big dinner so we made tomato + avocado sandwiches and pestoed up some squash. We’ve been having lots of really easy dinners this week.
And that’s the end of that chapter!
Marisa @ Uproot from Oregon says
Like usual, everything looks delicious! I love both of the dresses you wore- especially the striped one. Mazen would be great in a commercial sitting behind the car for shade 🙂
Danielle says
I love how much there is to do around where you live. We live right outside NYC and either I am not good at finding fun things to do or there just aren’t as many that are as enticing as yours. I also wish my husband loved squash as much as I do because your sandwich looks awesome, although if it was our dinner I would be dining alone! haha
Alexa says
I loooove the dress you wore to the vineyard; where is it from?!
KathEats says
Thanks it’s from Belk
Farah @ Fabulously Farah says
Weekends packed full of beautiful weather and outdoor events are my favorite. Summer, please don’t go!
I love Mazen’s cute toothy grin. Looks like he had a fun weekend too!
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
First off, I love BOTH of your dresses! Where are they from?!
I just love baby boys in baseball caps. Too bad most of the time they don’t seem to love them… 😉
Ella says
Kath, WHAT is that fab dress at your last event? It looks amazing for going out and breastfeeding! Spoken like a mom of babies, huh. I am about to have my second baby next month and am stocking up on nursing stuff all over again. Please share!
You guys are awesome to do so many great things with a baby!
KathEats says
Thanks I found it at Belk!
Jessica says
I’m glad I’m not the only one who gets red faced when they run. Even just 2-3 miles and my face stays red forever. Pretty annoying when you have to go somewhere right after, lol.
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
Love your dress from Sunday! Looks like such a fun weekend and like you enjoyed the beautiful weather. It’s sure been warm around here but it’s been nice to spend some time on the deck eating lunch or dinner but then retreating inside once it gets a little too warm. 😉
Sally says
This makes me miss Charlottesville summers so much!
Ps – I love Mazen’s toothy smile! He’s growing up!
Molly says
Belgian quad for the win!!
I’m getting pumped for our beer fest in 2 weeks.
KathEats says
Ours is coming up soon too!
Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties says
looks like a really great weekend! I love that you get out and about with a baby. I feel like a lot of people end up staying home all the time because it’s easier. But you guys let Mazen explore and see new sights- awesome job! 🙂
Jackie says
Now I want a tomato and avocado sandwich!!!
Madison says
Looks like an amazing weekend!

Just a heads-up, the app you used for your walk is actually called Endomondo (in case readers wanted to look for it). 🙂
KathEats says
Oh whoops! Thanks, I’ll fix it
Lynn @ the actor's diet says
I want your dress and mazen’s shirt.
Carly @ Snack Therapy says
Brie and apple grilled cheese are where it’s AT. Ohhh yeah to that. And I absolutely love the dress you wore to the pseudo-polo match. It looks gorgeous on you!

The market in Charlottesville always has such a great selection of produce.
Brett Johnson says
Wow, what a great day Kath! Thanks for posting the pic of your Endomondo app. I like the idea of adding a little competitiveness to daily activities 😉
Laura says
My face turns beet red like that when I exercise in the heat too! When I was younger and playing soccer my coaches would worry something was wrong when it got that red!
emily says
Bourbon barrel pumpkin sounds delightful! I tasted an amazing nougat beer this weekend (that you would probably love!).
KathEats says
oooooo!
Alisha @ Alisha's Appetite says

Love that dress from the polo day! Too cute!
And my little one won’t keep a hat on him for anything, either! Stinkers.
Maryz says
Love the striped dress…where is it from?
Mazen is looking so much like a little man!
KathEats says
Thanks, Loehmanns!
Katherine says
Loved this post!! I have to say, reading your blog was what got me into drinking quality beer (IPAs all the way!!) after college 😉 Mazen is TOO cute and looks like such a happy baby…I don’t know if you had mentioned this previously, but has he started to walk yet? From the pictures of him pulling himself up it looks like he is ready to get up and take off 🙂
Rachel @ Personality Crafts says
Looks like you had an amazing weekend!! I like your simple dinners, too. 🙂
Katherine says
Oops, I meant to add this on to my last post!! At his age it is TOTALLY normal to be standing but not walking unassisted (if that is where he is in his development). I’m getting married next year and the my ring bearer is going to be the son of my old neighbor and good family friend. He wasn’t wasn’t walking on his own regularly until at LEAST 16 months, and he is now 3 and is lightyears ahead of his peers in terms of coordination, walking/running, and jumping. It really bothered me when I would hear other moms bragging about their kids walking at 8 or 9 months, because each child is so different! (And although this little boy wasn’t super active until a later age, he has definitely passed each and everyone of the children who were “so advanced” at 9 months 😉 )
Kim says
Looks like a fun-filled weekend! Love Mazen’s orange and blue shirt!
Shel@PeachyPalate says
Gorgeous pics as always! Especially the first one of Maze showing of all his teeths! Love your dress that you wore to the polo as well!
Chelsea @BigBitesLittleBudget says
Love the dress you wore to the polo match! Looks like a fun easy, breezy weekend. You, Matt, and M sure do know how to make the most of these last summer months 🙂
Anna @ Fitness à la Anna says
Oh my goodness, M is getting so grown up! Wild times!! Also, I have to agree with everyone above – you look great in that dress!
Alison @ Daily Moves and Grooves says
That apple and brie grilled cheese sounds so tasty! I can see why those little hands were grabbin’ at it 😉
Looks like you all had a lovely weekend, and it’s awesome that you squeezed in 5 miles!
Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) says
Sounds like a fun weekend! He looks like such a little boy … not a baby! So cute!
Jess says
1 – I love your green striped dress!
2 – My husband and I were in Cville this weekend to find an apartment. I kind of wish I had known about the Craft Brewers Fest but it’s probably best that I didn’t because we had to drive home to PA Saturday afternoon!
3 – Speaking of Saturday, we had lunch at Great Harvest and I loooooved the Tofu & Pesto on Dakota. Best tofu I’ve ever had that wasn’t fried. : ) Then we shared a Frodo for dessert.
I think I’m in love with Cville already.
KathEats says
Oh fun! Glad you had a good visit… and sandwich!
charlotte says
Maze is sooo adorable! Food looks great, weekend looks fun! and big CONGRATS on that 5 miler…especially a steady pace! I always love getting back into running a longer distance or faster after easing off for awhile. our bodies need those breaks but also crave that high intensity at different stages. Keep up the awesome blogging.
robin says
Lovely weekend, but sadly no luck finding the sandals you like from Marshalls, how about you?
KathEats says
No luck
Ella P says
Dear Kath,
as usual fantastic galore of veggies and delicious bites!
I’d like to ask one question about your running: do you run at a constant rhythm or do you follow a spurt/slower pace/spurt pattern or both (depending on the day-fitness level-mood)? maybe you have already written about this topic, but I might have missed it…
Thankyous,
Ella
ps: Cutie-Pie looks sweeter that ever 🙂
KathEats says
I follow as constant of a stride as the hills here and my stamina allow. I don’t do any kind of running pattern or program
Allegra Young says
Those glasses you sipped Manhattans out of – where are they from? Love how it looks like the liquid is floating!
KathEats says
This is them. They aren’t cheap (I got mine through OpenSky years ago), but they are so cool! And they don’t sweat because of the double wall.
Emily S says
what’s the name of the documentary on Jamestown??
KathEats says
Nat’l Geographic’s Nightmare in Jamestown
Kathryn @ Mamacado says
Mazen is such a chunk of LOVE!
