WOW what a glorious, fun weekend!!! A block party, an Easter egg hunt, a birthday party, TWO soccer games, and a dinner party all in sunny 80* weather – what more could you ask for?
We started Friday off with a big event part of the Tom Tom Founder’s Festival of Cville – a block party at McGuffy Art Center.
We met some friends for beer, food trucks and pizza
Matt and I hit up the dumpling truck, the kebab truck (a lamb/kebab/wrap) and the crabcake truck and shared them all 3 ways.
The noodles were a big hit!
Later we shared a pizza with our friends – half cheese and half avocado & feta. Mazen’s favorite food right now is pizza!
We walked home and settled in bed early because our Saturday started bright and early with an Easter egg hunt at our preschool for next fall!
We did a couple of practice rounds
Which went well…
But when it was time for the hunt Mazen was only interested in the slide and roller coaster toys
And he LOVED the apple he got at the end!
Our next stop was a birthday party for our good friend Dylan!!
My friend Jessica did such an amazing job with the Elmo theme. She is an incredible cupcake baker!
And had plenty of snacks to share
Baby Walty!
Happy birthday dear Dylan!
I had not one but TWO soccer games this weekend, so it was a really physically challenging one. I played all 90 minutes on Saturday (we were playing man down with no subs!) and a lot of the game on Sunday. Super hot and fun! Only the playoffs to go until we are done for the spring season. Sad!
Saturday evening we babysat our good friend Sylvia while her parents went to a wedding. A slumber party!
We had take-out pizza and homemade salad for dinner
And once the babies were asleep, Matt and I enjoyed some Manhattans on the porch
Sunday morning Sarah and John brought over a frittata as a thank you for breakfast. Bacon, artichoke, greens and cheese!
After grocery shopping and prep, I had my second soccer game, which left me with terrible blisters on both pinky toes! Too much in one weekend.
I also got to meet Alison of Daily Moves + Grooves who was in town for a University of Virginia visit and met me at my game to say hello!
And Sunday night we ended with a dinner party at our house. Karen joined us along with several friends!
We made burgers on the grill along with a cucumber + pepper salad and chips
And for dessert – chocolate almond coconut cheesecake!! I’m not sure which recipe The Cheesecake Queen (aka Karen) used for this one, but it was amazing!! Maybe she will share in the comments (wink wink Karen!)
We laughed until the sun set, and then I went to bed early with my feet propped up high : ) Too much soccer for the ole joints!
Happy Weekend friends!

I love weekends in the spring– there always seems to be so much to do and so much fun to be had! Glad you had a good one!
Leah @ goodnightcheese says
Looks like a nice weekend. The cheesecake looks to die for.
I like hearing about soccer, but wish you would talk about it more! Do you hang out with your teammates, are there practices? It sounds like a nice activity but I feel like you hardly mention it.
KathEats says
It’s been an amazing experience! I love pushing myself so hard physically. No practices. .. just games on Sundays for 8 weeks in spring and fall. I’m not some if I will play this summer. .. but I hope to.
Leah @ goodnightcheese says
That seems hard, playing without practicing. How do you guys work as a team? Do any of the other teams practice, or it is really just non-competitive? It sounds so great, and also like such an easy way to make some new friends.

Those buns! Those glorious Great Harvest hamburger buns! I want bread NOW! When is lent over? LOL C’ville Crunch I’m coming for you!
S/N: I finally got my peas to shell from Whole Foods. AND OMG!! Peas out the shell are gloriously delicious. I can’t wait to get more. I am trying to freeze my own. Me and the lady that worked in the produce section sat there and opened and ate like 5 pods. My taste buds/palette is really changing for the better.
Ali @ Peaches and Football says
Hurray for you and soccer! You don’t often see leagues for adults (at least around here) and I’m great to know there are opportunities like that around. I think it would be so much fun to be a part of a team event (around here there’s only volleyball).
Those elmo cupcakes are the cutest things ever. What a creative birthday party.
I bet Mazen will be all over the Easter egg hunt next year. 🙂

Frittata for breakfast, burgers for dinner and cheesecake for dessert…perfecto!!! Those burgers look incredible! Do you have a go to recipe?
KathEats says
Matt does. He always adds some breadcrumbs for moistness but I’m not sure of his exact ingredients. Maybe he will chime in!
Marisa @ Uproot from Oregon says
The soccer looks like a great challenge! I love that Mazen is a fan of pizza, noodles, salads, etc- he definitely has a diverse palate from what we get to see you feeding him! Have a great week, Kath.
Elizabeth {Positively Healthy} says
Sounds like a perfect Spring weekend! The food looks awesome as well! 🙂
Christine says
Looks like you had a fantastic weekend, thank goodness for nice weather!! I think we deserve it after this past winter! The hubs and I grilled last night and it was the best feeling! Nothing tastes better than the first grilled dinner!
I am pregnant and will patiently wait for the cheesecake recipe because it looks heavenly 😉 I also have some cheesecake fans in the family that would enjoy this for Easter, so I wouldn’t have to eat it alone. haha
Marie says
Her cheesecake looks so yummy!!! Please share, Karen.
Heather says
That half avocado & feta pizza tho!!! <3 lol looks sooooo yummy
Catherine says
Those Elmo cupcakes are so cute!! And Mazen looks so happy with his apple! Yay for springtime!
Catherine says
Oh, and that cheesecake looks AH-MAZING!! 🙂
Kirsten says
Random question-the avocado pizza, the avocado is cooked, or put on after the baking?
I’ve just never seen it as a pizza topping. Intriguing!
KathEats says
I believe it was cooked. But it held its shape and things well
Kimberly says
I know CPK has it as a topping on the club pizza and it is added after cooking.
Chelsea @ TableForOne says
What a lovely weekend! I absolutely love all of the spring parties and fun things to do right now.
Kavi says
What a beautiful weekend you had. The block party looks like so much fun! Here in Chicago we had a beautiful 80 degree day on Saturday, lots of rain yesterday, and snow (!!!) today! Fingers crossed that spring weather is around the corner 🙂
Rebekah {aCricketSang} says
Wow, looks like a busy but fun weekend!
Dana @ Conscious Kitchen Blog says
What a fun spring weekend! It finally felt like spring by us too. We took advantage by going on a long bike ride and having a bonfire on Saturday. I’m so ready for the nicer seasons to be here!

OMG, that cheesecake!! Divine!

This was a glorious weekend! I adored those babies in their hats, too freakin cute! My weekend was packed with much needed social time;) With work and my man gone, I tend to be quiet during the week, so a few friends dragged me out on the town. I HOPE that hint for the cheesecake recipe is heard loud and proud. I have never made a cheesecake before! Help a girl out!
Lisa C. says
Oh Kareeeeeen! I’d love that cheesecake recipe! 🙂
Lauren @ Focused To Be Fit says
Looks like a fantastic Spring weekend – finally some good weather all around! Avocado on pizza, huh?! Can’t say I’ve ever had that one!

Sounds like such a fun weekend! I can’t wait until summer weather is here to stay! My godson is a few months older than Mazen and for Easter we have these talking easter eggs that say things like “Over here!” to help him learn where to look for them. They’re pretty neat for little ones 🙂 Have a great week!
Laurie says
Love this Spring post! What a fun active weekend. Hey, the last pic of your yard looks like you live on a lake. Is that just an optical illusion or do you really live on water?
KathEats says
Haha an illusion!
Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs says
Oooooh, that cheesecake! Yum! 🙂
Jeanie says
What a great weekend! I can’t get over Mazen eating a whole huge apple that’s almost as big as his head!
KathEats says
Well sadly he wastes a lot, but he sure loves the first bites
Jennifer says
Maybe cutting up Mazen’s apple into smaller, bite-sized pieces would allow easier eating for him and less waste for you?
KathEats says
He gets furious if I cut into it – he likes to eat it like a big boy. I have tried that with 50% success with a half-eaten apple. Perhaps I should make applesauce with the leftovers?
Kevie says
Is that a recent pic of you in your soccer uniform? You look like you could be a senior…in high school! Kath, you look great and so happy! It must’ve been a fun time.
KathEats says
Haha yes it is, and thank you!
Lauren says
I love reading your weekend posts – so fun!
Rachel says
sounds like fun!
Alison @ Daily Moves and Grooves says
Looks like such an awesome weekend! What a champ for rockin’ out two soccer games. I loved meeting you! 🙂
