Last weekend Karen, Matt, Mazen and I went to Fry’s Spring Station Pizza to get cozy with some pies.
We shared a hummus plate and two awesome pizzas – a wild mushroom and pesto and a classic with pepperoni. Some of the best pizza in town!
Fast forward a week and this past Friday I was in bed at 8:30 catching up on sleep. All day long I look forward to getting in my warm bed with my tablet to read a book. Chilly weather will do that to ya!
Saturday morning we went to Cville’s annual Christmas parade. Mazen didn’t want to sit still for long, but the parade managed to capture his attention just enough to see the marching bands and dogs and catch some prizes thrown from floats. Maybe next year he’ll actually want to stay and see Santa at the end!
We went to the city market where I picked up two pints of The Best Ice Cream from Sweet Sandies. Yum!! She also had pumpkin pie pop tarts and amazing seasonal ice cream sandwiches like cranberry and pecan pie.
Saturday night we went over to my friend Sarah’s house for a casual dinner –
Spinach salad, cauliflower soup, croutons and wine!
I’ve been talking about going out to breakfast or brunch this entire fall and since my soccer games were always on Sunday we had yet to go. This week was the first Sunday in a loooong time that we had no plans, so brunch it was!
We went to our favorite spot, Commonwealth.
Mazen had scrambled eggs and a biscuit
And I had the Caribbean Benedict – veggies and sweet potato hash over pita with eggs and a hollandaise sauce. Taters on the side. Plus coffee!!
Hope you had a great weekend!

I’ll take one of everything you ate…except the ice cream…two pints each please. 😉
The pic of Matt and Karen made me tear up. Don’t know why, just like the love you captured in that simple snapshot.

Love that Mazen is obsessed with eggs. He also looks like he is having such a blast in all these pictures- his personality shines through! Great eats, Kath, like always- I am jealous of that hummus plate from the pizza place.

Janelle says
I’ve been on a pizza kick lately, and those look super tasty. And I always love brunch. 🙂

Yum, that all looks good! Especially the mushroom pizza with pesto; one of my favorite taste memories is cheeseless pizza with pesto and sliced turkey from a place in St. Thomas that closed when I was in college.
Ashley says
I visited Cville this weekend and bought my first loaf of GH bread from your stand at City Market! Felt it was the least I could do to support you after enjoying your content for ‘free’ all these years. 🙂
KathEats says
Thanks so much Ashley! Hope it was delish. We were at the market too – sorry to miss you!

Commonwealth looks fantastic. Sounds like you have some great dining out options in Charlottesville!

I wish Sweet Sandies (and heck, your Great Harvest!) were available to Richmonders via Relay Foods 😉 Just throwing that out there! We were able to try Carpe Donuts and Lumi juice via Relay 🙂
KathEats says
We do sell our bread through Relay but I bet it just doesn’t get as far as Richmond. Sweet Sandies is rather small at the moment, but maybe she will expand!
Laura says
The pizza looks so yummy! I’m curious about the price point on the ice cream, would you mind sharing? I love how the ingredients and date churned are on the lid!
KathEats says
They were $8 a piece. Entirely hand crafted.

Random comment but I LOVE the color of your hair, Kath. I know in the past you said you don’t highlight (I do as I wish I had your natural hair color!).
KathEats says
Thanks! I had it highlighted this year actually – in July. It was getting rather brown and needed a lift!
Zima says
Gotta have Mazen’s shoes for my little one!! Where are they from please 🙂
