Whew what a fun time we had in Dallas this past weekend visiting Larbs and Matt! Big shout out to Grammie and Pea for giving Mazen a super fun weekend at the grandparents house : )
We flew out on Friday and home on Sunday, so it was a quick visit, but we crammed a lot in. Literally – we put so much delicious Texas food in our mouths! Matt and I were so impressed with the restaurants and dishes we tried.
Friday night after we arrived hungry from our flight we went to Victor Tangos, which was hoppin’ with an hour wait. We snuggled up to the bar and enjoyed some cocktails and this epic cheese plate.
My drink had Chamomile-infused bourbon!
Once we sat down we decided to share a bunch of dishes – Tempura Brussels (one of my favorites of the weekend!)
Plus smoked pork, a redfish, lamb lollipops, and a kabocha squash dish that was so amazing. We had no room for dessert!
Saturday morning we went to my sister’s gym for a MetCon class, which was similar to what we call Tabata at our gym.
The class was great, and the four of us had a good time sweating out our first round of food!
Post workout cappuccinos and smoothies!
After showers and a little relaxing, we were hungry for lunch. We made massaged kale salads with hummus and eggs.
Later in the afternoon we headed out into the cold and rainy weather for a round of bowling.
I made a detour to Buda Juice for a green refresher! This place was just like our Juice Laundry back in Cville.
We spent the rest of the afternoon at The Rustic, which had a great atmosphere and country music play list 🙂
This beer looks bigger than it was – just a pint – but boy did it feel huge! I nursed it for over an hour.
We played a few rounds of our latest favorite game – Exploding Kittens! It’s kind of like Old Maid meets Uno!
{If you’ve played before you know what an epic hand this is! Somehow I still lost!}
We also had some Tempura Cactus that was SO good!!
We had later dinner reservations, so we went back home and got dressed up for the night while we had some bourbon drinks and played more games – Cards Against Humanity and Rummikub this time! It’s been a favorite game of our family for years. Larbs has all these great bourbons, bitters and these cool ice cubes that don’t melt and water down your drink. I LOVED the Knob Creek Smoked Maple Bourbon!
{If you’re a Rummikub player, you’d know that this is also a great hand! I believe I won that game..}
Uber dropped us off at Komali for dinner, which was sooo good!
We had chips and salsa, Mexican street corn, pork belly tacos, salmon with chorizo, and the most delicious stuffed pepper!! Again we left so full!
Sunday morning we had small breakfasts before showering and walking about a mile to brunch.
We made a quick stop into the cutest coffee shop ever – Houndstooth. Loved the design!!
Brunch was at HG Supply Company, a Crossfit/Paleo-inspired restaurant. We loved it, and there were so many awesome things on the menu! The weather took a great turn for the better and we were able to eat outside. In January!
Cranberry Muffins to start –
Plus these amazing nachos to share –
I had a kale juice mocktail as my beverage of choice for another refreshing vegetable cleanse –
And this Grains and Greens bowl with an egg on top for my lunch.
Matt’s jalapeno bratwurst was pretty amazing too!
We filled up on brunch, which kept us full throughout our travels back to Raleigh and to give big kisses and hugs to our sweet Mazen <3

This looks like a blast! I’ve only been to Dallas once for a conference at the Gaylord so I didn’t get to see the actual city. I’ll need to go back!

Our dad and step-mom live in Plano, but we’ve never tried these places. I’m so jealous! Kaci and I will have to scope them out at our next visit!

That cheese board looks amazing, with all the fruit, nuts and crackers. Trying to identify all the components here. What kind of cheese is the reddish-colored rectangle?

I love seeing what you and others order at restaurants, because it’s inspiration to order things outside of my usual box!
Vacations with people you rarely get to see are awesome!
