We spent the weekend in Charlotte, NC with my sister and her family. Here’s the recap!
Weekend in Charlotte!
FINALLY, after many rescheduled visits, we made it to Charlotte to visit my sister and her family!
The cousins were super excited to hang out, and I was super excited to see Matt + Larbs’s new house and CHESTER!!
Mazen loves cats!
Cousin Fun
When your cousins are princesses…
Their house is amazingly beautiful!!
I’m coming home with some coastal decor inspiration : )
Bounce and Collide
As a surprise for the kids, we got a bounce house for the weekend. I have to say there were equal amounts of crying toddlers and collisions at fun-filled hours, but overall it was loads of fun.
Bourbon drink by Uncle Matt!
Dinner from Flower Child
For dinner we ordered a family-style meal from Flower Child.
Double Trouble
On Saturday morning we had a light breakfast of cereal and then took the littles on a double stroller run! They had a good time giggling at each other. We ended the run at the playground for them to run around for a bit.
Lunch at Optimist Hall
For lunch we joined the crowds at Optimist Hall. My sister recommended we place orders online so we could quickly pick them up and avoid the lines. Genius idea! We sat outside at Fonta Flora brewery and shared beers.
I had two tacos from Velvet Taco and some chips and queso to share with the group.
Date Night At Lincoln Street
My sister arranged for their babysitter to come so the grown-ups could go on a date!! Another genius idea. We put the little kids to bed before leaving, and then headed to South End to Lincoln Street. On the way there we drove by my old building where I worked at the PR firm when I lived in Charlotte!
We snagged the last rooftop table at Lincoln Street and enjoyed sunset and city views.
Cheers!
For dinner we shared a handful of small plates:
- Pimento cheese
- Bacon-wrapped dates
- Beet salad
- Carrots
- Roasted potatoes
- Wagyu beef
- NC Trout
Everything was delicious!
Jeni’s Ice Cream
After dinner we went to Jeni’s Ice Cream!! Super long line that was worth it.
I had a trio of flavors – Gooey Butter Cake being my favorite.
Sunday Pancakes
Sister Yoga
Larbs took me to her favorite yoga studio, Khali Yoga Center. We did an outdoor class that was very peaceful!
Acai Bowls
After yoga, we brought home acai bowls for lunch from Rico’s Acai.
Dinner at Heist Brewery
On our final night we ate at Heist Brewery. What a cool spot! And perfect for getting out kid energy. We shared a bunch of pizzas, apps, and salads.
Davidson College Visit
On our way home we went to Davidson College! I wanted to show Thomas and Birch the campus (Mazen has been before.) We did the grand tour with Uncle Matt and Emerson.
Milk Bread
After our tour, we had a delicious lunch at milkbread. Back when I lived there we had maybe 3 restaurants in the whole town 🙂
Cousin Time
We will miss our cousins playmates for now, but we will get to see them again in a few weeks at the beach!

What a fun weekend! And your sister’s home is lovely.
Danielle says
In that photo of the tree, is that like a living tree sculpture of roots and branches? Trying to figure it out- it looks interesting!
Kath Younger says
It’s a sculpture made out of sticks and saplings! Read about it here: https://www.davidson.edu/news/2020/02/27/common-ground-collective-effort-patrick-dougherty-sculpture-enchants
Betsy says
Looks like a fun weekend!
Could you ask your sister what color the doors to the porch are painted (that lovely dark blue)? I’m looking for a particular paint color and that one looks perfect. Thanks!
Kath Younger says
I’ll see if she can chime in!
Chelsea says
Isn’t it wild how much Davidson has changed? My parents live near there and I swear, every time I visit it’s like a whole new town.
Kath Younger says
Yes totally!! The town has really grown up around it. We used to have to go to another town to go to the grocery store!! 🙂
Jill says
Such a fun trip! I live just down the road in Sherrills Ford. Davidson is one of my favorite places. I often meet friends and run around there. I’ve heard the restaurants are fabulous but have not been. Husband has celiac and it’s hard to find places that follow GF protocols for him. 🙁
I’ve heard great things about the Charlotte restaurants you visited too! Thanks for sharing.
Kath Younger says
I think Thomas’s cousin lives in Sherrill’s Ford!
Elena says
Love the romper— do you mind sharing where you got it?
Kath Younger says
It’s by Scotch and Soda. I loved it but it was a rental from Nuuly that’s more expensive than I want to buy!
