We arrived home from our Tucson trip just in time for a lovely weekend. Everything here is now in full bloom!
We went downtown for the McGuffy Block Party as part of the Tom Tom Founders Festival here in town and enjoyed live music, drummers, a beer and wraps from Greenies
On Saturday we celebrated spring at the city market
After that we attended a first birthday party and loved on some broccoli and cupcakes.
In the afternoon, we went to the Monticello Trail wine festival
But didn’t stay long. Maybe the only wine festival in history that Matt and I remember every minute of
That night we rocked the grill
Tofu + zucchini + whipped sweet potatoes!
Sunday was low key. I went for a run, spoke at a round table and we cleaned the bakery.
And we caught up with Faith and Tate for dinner! We have missed these busy bees.
We served Keta salmon that Alaska Seafood sent us. It was mild, tender and perfectly baked by Matt.
Served with a massaged kale salad with avocado and red pepper in lime juice and garlic gold, Cheddar Beer bread from the bakery and whipped sweet potatoes (more on these later!)

Marisa @ Uproot from Oregon says
Everything looks delicious! I’m looking forward to the whipped sweet potatoes recipe.. I love anything that can faintly remind me of Thanksgiving. I also need to experiment with grilling tofu!
Anele @ Success Along the Weigh says
Glad you got home okay and it looks like you came home to a vat o’ fun! Holy poo, did Mazen go through a major growth spurt!? He looks super tall to me in that seat! We’re dusting off the grill this weekend ourselves. Might as well get out there before the swelter of summer sets in too soon and the last thing I’ll want to do is stand over fire! 🙂
KathEats says
He is very tall!
mary @ minutes per mile says
I would love a recipe for “whipped” sweet potatoes! I made mashed (regular) potatoes for the first time this week and remembered that they taste amazing.
KathEats says
I have to say, these were probably more like “blended” but I do have a quick how-to coming up
mary @ minutes per mile says
Awesome, thank you! Yeah, when I made mine, I put boiled-soft regular taters in my Ninja blender because I don’t have a masher thing. No butter, milk, or anything other than potatoes — they were quite fluffy!
Alyssa @ Road to RD says
Wow Mazen has grown! Looks like a fun time!
Lindsey @ Pas de Deux says
It was a beautiful weekend–so glad you got to enjoy so much of the Cville festivities (we enjoyed the Tom Tom picnic in Lee Park on Saturday afternoon). I’m jealous of your grill–the zucchini and tofu look fabulous 🙂
Kel says
Oh my gosh! That Mazen and broccoli picture is the cutest!!
Elizabeth @ My Neon Running Shoes says
What a great weekend! Your backyard is gorgeous by the way!!!
Ashlee@HisnHers says
My idea of a perfect weekend! Can you PLEASE share how to grill tofu without it sticking and falling apart?! Mine does every time. 🙁
KathEats says
Extra olive oil!! Matt really smothered it and it was our first really successful grilling tofu experience
Matt says
Yeah, I really slathered it on because I’m so sick of messing it up. I will say that we’re using our local Twin Oaks tofu, which is the firmest tofu I’ve ever had, so it already has extra protection against sticking. And make sure the grill is at maximum heat and has clean grates.
Amanda, RD- The Nutritionist Reviews says
I love the picture of Mazen opening his mouth for broccoli! Cute!
Lily says
I was going to say the same! That one is adorable & could totally be an ad for starting healthy habits suuuper early 😉
Susan H @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
Wow! So envious of your spring weather…we are just getting a taste of it here in Southern Ontario. Love all the great food! Food, wine and good friends…what a way to enjoy the weekend! 🙂
Hil says
The grill marks you got on the zucchini look amazing. How thick/thin did you cut them before grilling?
Shel@PeachyPalate says
I want your tofu dinner! So simple and delicious! Red dress looks fantastic on you btw!
Spice Chicken says
My thoughts exactly on the red dress. Super cute.

Your yard looks great! Are you aware that there’s a pop up survey about HP products that blocks readers from reading your site until they answer a question and vote. It’s impossible to decline the survey. Really obnoxious.
KathEats says
It shouldn’t be covering anything, and it shouldn’t pop out until you interact with it. What browser are you using? I’ll pass it on to the team. Thanks
Kelly says
I had it pop up and take away the 1st pic of Matt and Mazen in the yard but I refreshed by clicking on the post title and it went away.
elizabeth says
I had a similar issue, actually blocked your entire post until I voted and then refreshed your site. I use Firefox.
Sarah says
I’m on my work computer, using firefox. It happened again when I visited just now, but I may have hovered briefly over the ad at the bottom because I scrolled straight to the comments and then my screen froze and I had the pop up survey.
Sara @ fitcupcaker says
we were going to grill yesterday but it rained 🙁 I love grilling veggies and fish! Great combo of broccoli and cupcakes, haha!
Jola says
I wish spring would finally arrive here in Germany… It’s still too cold. =/
Diana @ Eating Made Easy says
It looks so nice out there, Spring is in the air…even though I live in So Cal I’m still very excited for the Summer. We need to get our grill out too, it’s been too long.
Jordan says
Those whipped sweet potatoes look amazing. Thanks for keeping me entertained, Kath – as a University student going through exams right now, your posts keep me going!
Kylie @ immaeatthat says
That picture of Mazen and the broccoli…ohmygoodness. May just be the cutest thing I ever did see:)
Emily says
Hi Kath,
Long time reader here of this blog and occasionally babykerf (not a mom and not in near plans), but just feel like your blogs lately have gone from great healthy food/drink/family pics to more product advertisements, restaurant reviews, and products you like with their websites where to purchase hyperlinked. I know you’ve done restaurant reviews frequently in the past, but them alongside the product reviews make them appear as though they”re sponsoring you or paying for your meal (maybe they’re not-but that’s something readers like to know).
While I know you need to make a living, it’s very unappealing to read blogs that are constantly being sponsored by or promoting some product.
Good luck with wherever you end up taking the blogs.
KathEats says
Are you talking about the Ace BBQ post? That wasn’t sponsored or comped – just me writing about where I’d had lunch. I include a lot of hyperlinks because people generally always want to know what and where, but not all of them are always “buy me” things. Appreciate the feedback though.
Kristen @ Change of Pace says
What a great weekend. I would love to be a part of a small town like that. It seems like there’s always something going on!

I’m so jealous you got to start grilling out already! I can’t wait for warmer, non-rainy weather here in Chicago! Looks like you had a fabulous weekend. 🙂
Lauren @ Sassy Molassy says
I totally love that photo of Mazen’s mouth WIDE open for the broccoli. So cute.
