In highlights!!
Friday afternoon mom fun [with wine + flatbread made by Matt!] and an early bedtime.
Saturday neighborhood Easter egg hunt.
Mazen missed the actual hunt because 1) he was napping and we were 20 minutes late and 2) he can’t walk! But he did find this egg, which was discarded by a big kid after the hunt was over. Too bad it was empty. #momwantedsomechocolate
Great Harvest provided Honey Bunnies for the kids to snack on. They went straight for the jelly bean eyes!
We did a babysitting swap with some friends this weekend. They watched the babies for us for the first half of the night and then we came home to put Mazen to bed and took over for the second half.
Our date took us to Champion where Ace BBQ was having a pig pickin’
I enjoyed the Champion Tripel – two thumbs up!
And we feasted on BBQ sandwiches.
Loved the crispy bits on top. Hated the raw onion chunks in the NC-style sauce. I’m ok with a touch of onion, but as a North Carolinian, this sauce was not my favorite.
Sunday morning some of us were up at 5:45am!!
You’d think when morning nap rolled around that I would have crawled into bed myself, but after breakfast and coffee I was energized and headed to the gym instead. There was no one there at 8:30 on a Sunday morning, and I loved having the space to myself!
We rounded out the weekend with laundry, blogging, baby food making and lunch at Whole Foods.
Plus dinner at our neighbor’s house. A fun way to end the weekend!
That and the fact that we’re supposed to get we GOT a few inches of SNOW. So not typical for late March in this part of the country!
Jane @ Not Plain So Jane says
I don’t even know what to comment on, it all looks awesome. I miss good BBQ! Haven’t found a place out here yet. The bunny bread is precious. Can’t wait for the next generation in my family so easter egg hunts can exist again!

I can’t believe it’s nearly April and so much of the east coast is getting snow! Boo to that.
Sounds like a fun weekend. We had a pretty quiet weekend, but I spent it with my family and friends, which is always great.
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
What a fun and spring filled weekend! I love the honey bunny loaves – too cute!
Jennifer says
What a great idea with the babysitting swap.
That bbq looks delicious! I actually would have asked for extra onion on mine. 🙂
Sounds like you had a nice weekend. Hopefully this will be the last snow of the season.
Lynn @ the actor's diet says
Sounds like a perfect spring weekend aside from the snow part!
Anele @ Success Along the Weigh says
It is so hard to find good BBQ around here so I usually end up making my own. (I seem to do that with most anything these days food wise) Great idea to babysit swap! Those bunnies are adorable!!
Eileen says
Mazen is TOTALLY PRECIOUS!
Swapping child-care is a brilliant idea. Now that my kids are older, we have a wide network of friends who back each other up, and I wish we’d dared to try it when they were babies. Sometimes all you need is an hour or two …
Lindsey @ Pas de Deux says
That picture of Mazen with the egg is just too cute! Looks like a great weekend. Hope you all are snuggling to keep warm with the snow today… Where is spring?!
Nina @ Too Hottie For That Body says
Those honey bunnies are so cute! If we lived in the area we would definitely be buying some for our little one’s first Easter.
Mom says
Ahhhh. Maze with his first egg!
Sara @ fitcupcaker says
Its been snowing all weekend here and it still is, where are you REAL MARCH weather? Love the easter egg hunt pictures. So cute!
Alex @ Raw Recovery says
Sounds like a fun weekend. When Mazen gets older, you can get him these Easter eggs that talk and help little kids learn how to hunt for them. You open them up, turn on a switch, close it, and then they say things like “come find me!” and “over here!” They’re really cute!
KathEats says
Oh I haven’t seen those – cute!!
Carly @ Snack Therapy says
Dying over those BBQ sandwiches, and I’m not even a huge fan of BBQ. Geez, Mazen is getting cuter by the second. Those cheekies!
Erica says
oh my gosh! He is looking SO much like you!! What a fun date. Those bunnies are adorable.
Kim @ Hungry Healthy Girl says

Those bread bunnies – too cute! Glad you guys had a great weekend!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Sounds like a great weekend! I grew up doing NC pig pickins and I never knew about the chunks of onion. My grandmother made our sauce and it wasn’t like that. I happen to be a HUGE fan of the vinegar sauce though. Sorry the onions put you off on that one. I can’t do raw onion like that either. I hope you have a great week and try to stay warm!
KathEats says
That’s my point – NC sauce shouldn’t have raw chunks of onion : ) Mine never did either growing up. Maybe some slow-cooked in, but not raw
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Seriously, I believe in trying things and putting your stink (so to speak 😉 on recipes, but don’t change a good thing! It’s already reached perfection!
Lis says
wow…that tripel looks like a burly beer! I love belgian brews. Are you still BF? if so, how do you handle nursing while consuming alcohol? Just curious. Thanks !
KathEats says
Just not more than 1 drink at a time
Elizabeth says
Mazen is seriously so cute!! I agree with the BBQ sauce, I can’t stand the raw chunks of onion, that just ruins the taste all together! I love the bunnies, I look forward to Easter at Great Harvests for the bunnies every year! I got the snow here too! 8 Inches in late March?! It is kind of crazy!
Christina @ The Beautiful Balance says
That bunny bread is adorable! ALMOST as adorable as Mazen’s smile!
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
Haha hopefully you’ll have the opportunity to snag some of Mazen’s Easter candy next weekend! And at least there’s always Halloween…
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
That flatbread looks amazing. I have company in town this weekend and if gave me a few ideas.

Hey Kath, where did you get your scarf? I love it! It is exactly the style and color I’ve been looking for, but I’m guessing it probably wasn’t a recent purchase…

I actually don’t remember! It might have been a gift.
Sara says
That picture of Mazen holding and looking at the egg is so adorable!
Erin @ The Elliptical Chronicles says
Those honey bunnies looks so cute and tasty! I’ve never heard of them before… Are they like a pastry or more like bread?
Also, what a great idea with the babysitting swap!
KathEats says
They’re a loaf of bread in bunny shape!
Erica C. says
Hey Kath-
I think you mentioned you were going to have a blog post about Mazen and eating solids coming up. Any chance you will go into detail about how you make baby food/tips on storing etc? Just curious. We have just started solids and I’m hoping to make most of my daughter’s food at home. Thanks!
KathEats says
Yup! I’m taking about baby food making in post #2 of the solids talk
Mommypage says
That Easter bunny bread is adorable! It looks like a perfect food to bring to Easter parties. I bet all the kids would enjoy it as well. Very cute idea!
Jane says
Looks like such a fun weekend! The easter bunny bread is too cute! There’s nothing quite like having the gym to yourself ; ) I hate to be rude to people, but I really don’t want to chat while I’m trying to get a good sweat on so its best when I don’t run into friends or acquaintences at the gym.
MelanieF says
Hi Kath! Great pictures. It looks like a fun day! I was just wondering, do you still use you DSLR for all of your pictures?
Thank you!
KathEats says
The first photo and last 3 were on my phone, but the middles were all on my Canon
