hiiiiiii!!
{Rosemary bush coming home from the plant hospital. Hangry shirt from Nourish Snacks!}
You guys have lots of great plans for the weekend – from traveling to having babies (!) to relaxing BBQs. We are headed to a party soon, but I wanted to pop in with a mid-way (1/3 way?!) hello.
After the gym on Friday we were excited to find out that ACAC was hosting a free Memorial Day lunch. Burgers, hot dogs, watermelon, chips, lemonade and cake. We had a blast picnicking with our friends!
I had a veggie burger lettuce wrap with some Sunchips and watermelon. Skipped the bun to leave room for some of this guy:
Friday afternoon we did some art projects and played with our kinetic sand.
And spent some time laughing in my bed
And then we headed downtown for Fridays After Five!
The new tiny creatures photography display on the downtown mall is so cool. Some of the bugs are terrifying though! I think the one above is a camel cricket – this is how I imagine them when I see one in my house! But look carefully for the tiny baby praying mantis below. Mazen says “That one is mommy’s favorite and that little one is me!” <3
We shared a Christian’s pizza with friends (I had a big slice of the avocado feta)
Here’s a tip of mine: after purchasing a glass of wine at the event I pour it into an empty sippy cup. There’s no need to worry about toddlers knocking over red wine on the picnic blanket! (Just make sure no one mistakes it for juice!)
We ended the night with some dancing to the music. It was packed!
And with birthday cake ice cream from Chaps. Best birthday cake ever!
This morning Mazen and I had smoothies again (his request every day now!)
This one was strawberry / orange juice / oats / yogurt / basil. Try the basil! I also had a few pieces of leftover bacon and a small piece of muffin.
Mid-morning I headed out for a run. I only went about 3 miles and can’t believe that just a few months ago I was running 8/9/10 miles at a time. I haven’t done much running since with so many great gym classes and lots of soccer.
Honeysuckle fuel break!
I met the boys at the market where we shopped around for greens and plants and shared a lemonade.
We came home and worked on the yard and garden a bit before lunch.
This salad was so good – greens, leftover sweet potatoes and green beans, Humboldt fog cheese, creamy yogurt dressing and some Nourish Snacks BBQ corn kernels on top.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Looks like a fun-filled weekend so far!
P.S. I may have jumped at this photos. I HATE crickets, grasshoppers, praying mantises….they’re just SO gross looking.

Oh my. I think I would feel so weird drinking from a sippy cup!
KathEats says
Haha. It’s a little different. I wouldn’t put anything fancy in there!
Tonya says
LOL They do make adult sippy cups for wine, though. It’s plastic, with a lid and a spout. It’s clear and has a wine glass shaped interior.
Jilly says
One of the pleasures of wine is the smell and color. I can’t imagine sacrificing those to drink out of a sippy cup. Are you going purely for the buzz?
Linda @ The Fitty says
There never fails to be a salad in one of your food posts 🙂 love that about ya.
Cassie says
Hope you had a lovely weekend!!

Looks like fun! I am so happy it’s farmers’ market season again :). Humbolt fog is the best cheese! A perfect salad topper 🙂

I can see how a sippy cup could work for a picnic, but I don’t think I’d want to drink out of it! How embarrassing! Yes, I’m 36, and I’m drinking from a sippy! 😉
Also, how do you keep your kids out of it?
KathEats says
Hey, no spill cups for all ages!
It’s usually in my hand or right next to me and most kids know their own cups.
polly says
what a fun weekend Kath! I love you and the sippy cup idea. I say go for it, no spills and fun times. hope you and M & M have a blast this weekend. Abbi had her graduation party last weekend + prom! Eeks! Can you believe it? Time goes fast. Enjoy every drop!
Love you guys.
Polly XOXO

Looks like a fun weekend, so far! I LOVE Farmer’s Markets and am so glad to see them returning to my local area!

BBQs are so lovely around this time of year! Remember to get some delicious lamb 🙂
lois says
Hmmmm…leftover bacon? Never heard of that, much like leftover wine. 😉
I live where Humboldt fog is made! Unfortunately, I’m not a big fan of goat cheese.

What’s the plant hospital?
KathEats says
Like bringing a baby home from the hospital…bringing the rosemary home from its “hospital.” Just a joke!

Great pics, looks like a fun weekend! Kinetic sand looks fun!

WANT that salad!
That photography display is so cool. Such a great way to educate us all on tiny creatures! I think there’s a really good Planet Earth series all on insects…

We drove out to my aunts house in Raphine this weekend and ended up making a pit stop to walk downtown Charlottesville so our babes could stretch their legs. It was our third time passing through and we always enjoy it so much! Our oldest son is about 2 weeks older than Mazen and we wondered if we might accidentally run into y’all but we ended up heading out just before 5. The carousel on the pedestrian mall was our kids favorite find. I can’t believe we hadn’t seen it before. And I personally loved the chalkboard wall where we left a very special announcement 😉

How fun! Sorry to miss you : )
