How were your weekends friends? Ours was full of social events – always fun and always busy! Friday night we went to the Nest Realty County Fair, which is an event that Nest Realty puts on for all of their clients. Our realtor is Karen Ball, and she is fab!
The fair is a totally FREE event with lots of delicious barbecue, kids events, drinks and music.
Shout out to that cornbread!!
Yum yum! Plus 2 glasses of vino : )
Several of our friends have used Nest too, so we had friends big and small to hang out with. Sadly the kids area was packed, and Mazen was too intimidated by the jumping big boys to participate.
But he did love seeing the train go by! We were on top of the Water Street Parking Garage!
Failed attempt at a family photo
We all headed home and went to bed early – from Nest to rest!
Saturday morning Mazen slept until 8:20!! I quietly sipped coffee on the porch until he got up. And then we headed to the City Market for breakfast! I had plans to go right to the gym next and didn’t want something super heavy so I had this breakfast of champions – one of the sprinkles donuts I’ve been eyeing all summer and a green juice from The Juice Laundry! This ended up being the perfect pre-workout snack. The donut was cakey (my style!) and the glaze amazing.
At the gym I took it easy on the elliptical because I did 30 assisted pull ups the day before with Erin and could barely lift my arms!! After a shower we headed home to greet Matt and get ready for part #2 of the weekend!!
Our friends Seamane and Rob throw an Oktoberfest party every other year and go all out!
They home brew beer and order giant pretzels!
There are also costumes provided : )
The food spread covered all of the bases – pretzels, brats, sauerkraut, potato salad, egg noodles and lots of mustard. Plus cheeses and deviled eggs and Seamane’s famous German chocolate cupcakes!
We drank lots of beer and spent the afternoon playing games. Matt won the keg carry!
Mazen won the toddler jump
After the party we had modest dinners of leftover chicken enchilada soup and chips followed by 5 episodes of Portlandia Season 3. Love that show so much!!
Sunday morning we made pumpkin pancakes, which I topped with butter, banana and a drizzle of maple.
Sunday afternoon I had a soccer game – wheee – and then Matt and I had a special date night that I’ll tell you about later this week!

when Mazen sleeps in that late does he still nap? I need to wake my daughter by 7:30 to unsure a nap will happen!
KathEats says
Yes but late like 3pm. Not ideal!
Liv says
What time does he goto bed for the night to wake up at 8? I would love that!
KathEats says
9… too late! Our schedule is all off but he has always gone to bed on the late side
Katie @ Live Half Full says
Sounds like a perfect weekend! I love that picture of Mazen jumping. I also looove Portlandia! Have you watched Garfunkel and Oates yet? It’s good!
KathEats says
No is that an episode or another series?!
Katie @ Live Half Full says
It’s a new series on IFC about a You Tube sensation comedy duet. It’s a little girly and the same humor as Portlandia. I love it!
KathEats says
Cool! Thanks!
Chelsea @ Designs on Dinner says
I didn’t know Garfunkel and Oates have a show! My husband and I love them, they’re so funny. Thanks for the heads-up!
Kaila @healthyhelperblog! says
What a festive, fun, and DELICIOUS weekend!! That BBQ food looks awesome! Love potluck style get togethers like that!
Vanessa says
This looks like so much fun! We’re hoping to get out to more festivals this fall and winter!
Laura @SheEatsWell says
That Chicken Enchilada soup looks good! I am ready for soup season. Is it a Cooks Smarts recipe or one of your own?
KathEats says
It’s by Gimme Some Oven!
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
That pretzel is humongous!! It looks delish!
Chelsea @ Designs on Dinner says
That Oktoberfest looks so fun! All the fun food and drinks from a regular Oktoberfest without the lines!
Ellen @ Wannabe Health Nut says
You always have the best eats…I want a bite of everything! I especially love the doughnut/green juice breakfast. Hitting all of the right food groups, indeed. 😉 And 30 assisted pullups?! That’s awesome. My max is 10. I would be curious to know what Erin’s pullup tips are. It’s something I really want to conquer but I’m pretty sure I’m not going about it the right way.
KathEats says
I started with almost no assistance and did as many as I could (3) and then she added 10 pounds of help and I did as many as I could (4) and then we just kept adding until I got to 15. Then repeat a second time through! My arms are STILL killing me on Monday!
Alex @ True Femme says
I need to find a local place that sells giant pretzels because the beer gardens in Germany are my Dad’s favorite place. I’d love to throw him an Oktoberfest themed party complete with brats, beer, and pretzels 🙂 Sounds like an amazing weekend!
Alex says
Looks like such a fun weekend, and the food looks delish also! Do you have a specific recipe for your pumpkin pancakes? I’d like to try them!
KathEats says
I just stir a half cup of pumpkin into my batter! Plus a pinch of pumpkin pie spice
jen says
Made pumpkin pancakes last weekend too and both kids acted like I served up poison. Man oh man, it can be demoraling eating with little kids. My once everything eating 3 year old seems to have had some kind of tastebud revolt, so now even her favorites sometimes “taste funny” and she has figured out a polite way to tell me a meal is crap… “Mom, are there more things coming out for dinner?” said while peering hopefully toward the kitchen. Like a knife to the heart, I tell ya. Then some meal thrown together from random scraps she chows down like it’s the best thing ever. Ahhhh… such is life. Anyway, I liked the pumkin cakes smeared with a little apple cinnamon butter just fine.
Matt says
These are some of my greatest fears… no idea how I’m going to react!
Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties says
WOW that oktoberfest party looks amazing! german choc cupcakes– YUM!
Mom says
Gosh does Maze look grownup in the picture jumping off the porch. Hard to believe that’s the little baby I first met when he was twelve hours old!
jill says
Oooh, I love hearty soups for cooler weather (or the time of year when it’s supposed to be getting cooler, even if I managed to get a sunburn this weekend). We make something similar – chicken tortilla soup, which amounts to basically the same thing, I believe – every couple of weeks. So freaking delicious, and so simple with the slow-cooker. We also consume ours with binge-watching a favourite show!
Colleen Sullivan says
Wow busy busy weekend, but it sounded like a lot of fun. I bet it flew by!
I always love your pictures! What lenses / camera do you use?
KathEats says
Thanks, I have a Canon Mark II and this lens, which I just bought a love.
Sara says
This is random, but are you uneasy at all about living in Charlottesville now? With all those missing girls (I believe 5 in 5 years)? I would be on edge because of that, even if the girls that have disappeared are college age. Just curious, as I thought of your blog when I started hearing about the most recent disappearance.
KathEats says
I think it has made everyone here a bit more aware of safety measures. I bought some mace to carry if I’m walking alone, and will definitely think twice about walking after dark, which I have done in the past. While they haven’t had a trial yet, I’m glad that the guy they think might be responsible for one – possibly three – of these cases is in jail.
Carolyn says
Looks like a super fun weekend, as always!
Your friends throw an Oktoberfest party twice a year? WOW! That’s a lot of work. Looks like an amazing time though!
Shelly says
Those pull ups sound intense! Good on you for backing it up with a workout on the Saturday and Sunday!
Kath are you planning to do a weekly workout recap anytime soon? I remember you did them earlier this year and they were motivational 🙂
KathEats says
I felt like my workouts were so repetitive that it got old : )
Shelly says
Not at all! You’ve gained so much definition over the last 6-12months – it was really interesting and motivating to see what you were doing each week. Made me keen to do some strength training to get similar results!
Jeanie says
Looks like a lovely weekend, but that picture of you looking at the train made me weak in the knees.
Emily says
All of that festival food looks amazing! I am salivating!
Laura says
8:20? I am green with envy! My 4 and 2 year olds are up around 5:45 pretty much every day. Even if they are up later for any reason, they don’t sleep in, just get less sleep, so it’s a miserable day or two following a late night. I have been tired for five years. =)
Katie says
I love your blue beaded necklace!! Is that a stitch fix find??
KathEats says
Girls Day Out!
Emily @ Tips on Healthy Living says
Love the Oktoberfest shots–looks like a beautiful early fall weekend!
Kylie @ immaeatthat says
Absolutely loving Mazen’s shirt with the dog on it. So cute! And I’m totally with you on the cakey(<3) over light n' fluffy donuts!
Rebecca M says
Hi Kath,
Do you know where your friends ordered their pretzels from? We’re doing an Oktoberfest birthday theme for our son’s first birthday soon 🙂
KathEats says
I’m pretty sure she got them from Whole Foods!
