We had a really fun weekend – lots packed in this time!
On Friday we had terrible rainy and cold weather, but we met Matt for a little late afternoon shopping at Barracks Road.
Knowing that we had a simple dinner on the other side, we didn’t want our time out to end, so as we were passing the new Three Notch’d Brewing Co. we decided to step inside.
Super duper impressed with the new place!! The atmosphere was awesome, especially with a baby.
Mazen made friends right away with another boy, and the seating arrangements were perfect for kids.
And the snack mix was awesome – pretzels for babies; wasabi peanuts for parents!
And the beers….YUM!
I loved the No Veto Brown and the Sweet Winter Ale. The Tripel was also awesome, as was the Espresso Stout.
We ended our Friday night with some simple spaghetti.
With some of the sauce we canned two summer ago over fresh Mona Lisa Pasta.
Saturday morning Matt went in at 3:30am, but he met us at the gym for athletic conditioning! The class was awesome and full of variety. Sarah and I had a blast!
Afterward we went to the pool and took Mazen for a swim, followed by a hot steam shower and rainy drive home.
Saturday night we met Rosie, Kevin and Linden at Pasture for dinner!
Syrah for me…
We shared the pimento cheese and fried pickles to start
The babies had fun playing together! Looks like Mazen is saying “More pimento cheese!”
Matt and I share a few small plates ….meatballs
Black eyed pea grits…
And smoked trout in a jar. Really good, but I still don’t quite know what it was!
Finally a delicious kale salad
Sunday started simply with an early breakfast and a family walk around the neighborhood. Yay for a sunny day!!!
Then I went grocery shopping and brought home Whole Foods salad/hot bar for lunch. Love the sweet n sour tofu!
During naptime we did all of our meal prep for the week (a la Cook Smarts!)
And then we Mazen was up and fed we met friends at Trump Winery for a fun afternoon! It was sort of warm outside, so we figured we should get out of the house.
Mazen made friends!
Hi Sylvia!
And we sipped bubbly
Baby Snack Time
We ended the weekend with dinner with Karen at a Mexican restaurant downtown. I had chips (duh), a Corona and split some seafood fajitas with Matt. A full weekend it was!

The smoked trout looks like a fish version of rillettes. Quite yummy stuff from France. Looks like it was great weekend!

I think that’s what the menu called it!

Looks like a great weekend and lots of good eats as usual.
I love the pic of Mazen and Matt holding hands, walking. The difference in height is just so sweet to capture because before you know it, he’ll be shooting straight up!

Fun times with family and friends- looks like the best kind of post-holidays weekend! Can’t wait to see your meals this week, looks like a yummy salad/coleslaw? It was sort of warm here too (50s in Nebraska), but I am looking forward to the real warm weather this spring and so are my kids. Mazen is so cute in his boots!

Um… smoked trout maybe?
KathEats says
I mean the preparation – I think it was the rillettes that the first commenter mentioned

Wow you did pack a lot of fun into the weekend – those are the best kind! I’m not a beer fan myself, but I love the variety of colors in the ones you tried. Really pretty. 🙂
I probably say this monthly but holy cow – Mazen is getting so big! He’s definitely a toddler isn’t he? How does the time go by so fast??!!

What a FUN weekend! I am so impressed by how much you and Matt are able to do with a toddler! I have a kiddo about M’s age and she does not cooperate when we try to take her to a brewery or somewhere adult-fun. Any tips? Also, every time I see chips now I think LOS CHIPS!
KathEats says
Mazen is well behaved so long as he isn’t hungry, so the snack mix (and snacks from our diaper bag) kept him happy. We also weren’t there very long. He’d probably melt down more than 45 minutes or so. He’s generally pretty good in restaurants, but only if we go at 5pm and are leaving by 6:30 and he’s gotten a good meal out of it!
Catherine says
Would you be willing to do a budget post about how much your family spends on food/restaurants/drinks and how you categorize them in your budget? For example, groceries are typically $XX, restaurant spending $XX and drinks $XX (but we put them in entertainment). How do you balance more expensive choices – like Whole Foods, local meat, etc – with other options? I assume your bread is “free” and that a lot of the meals you share are made from ingredients sent to you. I think it would be very eye-opening because I struggle to stay in budget for my family of 4. I feel like if I ate three meals out in a weekend it would totally blow up our budget.
Thanks Kath!

I’ll consider it, but so much depends on your family life, income, priorities, etc. I’d do it as percentages I think…

That looks like a great weekend! We had the flu at our house… yuck. Where did you get that striped blazer? It’s really cute!

Ugh that kale salad at Pasture is to DIE for! Even my boyfriend liked it, and he was definitely pretty resistant to kale before he met me 😉

Your weekends always look like such fun!!! I’m trying to get better about getting out on the weekends — sometimes after a long week, I just want to veg out and do nada! Did you get anything good on your shopping trip? Also, I’ve heard REALLY good things about Three Notch’d Brewery. I need to convince my husband to make a weekend trip out that way soon. I was looking at the beers on their website, and I saw they have a Tripel. Is that what you meant when you said Triple, or were they tasting a different beer that day? FAB post as usual! :))))))
KathEats says
I got a pair of boots!
And yes, TRIPEL! I always type the wrong way automatically on that one.
Patricia says
Cool!! Hope they show up in a blog post soon! 🙂
