Here are some shots from two Fridays ago that never made it up when Karen went with us to Fridays After Five. On Saturday night we cooked an amazing dinner at home: steaks, caprese salads, rolls and summer salad.
This past weekend hit up the farmer’s market, went to a first birthday party, visited Karen in the hospital, and went on a date night to Pasture, a new farm-to-table restaurant that opened at the Shops at Stonefield.
Friday night we met friends for drinks and apps at La Taza’s tiki bar. What fun!
And the best sweet potato fries ever.
Since we ate fries and quesadilla we settled on a cutting board of snacks for dinner.
Pasture was one of the most beautiful restaurants I have ever seen!
Love the colors, love the stamp logo, love the wood, love, the chairs, love the space
The chalkboard bathroom was pretty neat!
The menu was quite awesome too! I’d call it “modern Southern.” Lots of pimento cheese, grits, okra and the like. Just my cup of sweet tea!
Vino + brew
Matt and I started with an order of pimento cheese (my fav) and a butter bean dip with veggies. The pimento cheese was classically awesome and loved the Ritz crackers that came in a cut paper bag for dipping. I loved the butter bean hummus as well!
Next we had an order of fried clams, which were seafoodalicious
And for dinner we shared the pork chop with mashed potatoes and green beans. We had the chance to meet one of the owners too. I’m excited to return for more tastes.
I didn’t really even need to see the dessert menu because a dessert in a jar had been floating by me all night.
Turns out it was a South Boston Cream Pie and it was smashing!
Not good at all.
Hope you had a great weekend!

Odd question: I LOVE the pillows on your bed!! (The white embroidered ones and the blue one) as well as the green coverlet. Any chance you’d share where you purchased them?
KathEats says
The pillow are Pottery Barn and the duvet cover is from Crate + Barrel 🙂
Chrystal says
Thanks! I was most interested in the blue and white accent pillow and no luck with Pottery Barn. 🙁 Appreciate the info though.

Oh sorry that one is from homegoods

I would live a caprese salad today. I know it’s officially fall, 69 high in Va Beach and windy, but that is making me want one.
Ali @ Peaches and Football says
Wow – that restaurant looks gorgeous and so unique. I love all the wood everywhere and the pops of color.
Mazen always looks like such a happy and content little guy. And your food looks amazing, as always.

My tummy is grumbling just looking at all that lovely food. Happy Monday! xx
Kimberly says
That looks like Pumpkin atop Matt’s head! But it’s a stuffed animal, right? Or is it a camera trick and the cat isn’t really atop his head at all!? Cute/funny pic either way.
KathEats says
It’s Pumpkin the new cat puppet!
Amanda says
Haven’t seen the real Pumpkin in any photos lately….??
KathEats says
She’s still chilling in the neighborhood. 🙂

Beautiful photography (and baby) as always!
I am so sorry to hear Karen is in the hospital again. She is in great hands with such a smart and knowledgeable son and daughter-in-law. That, and her shining spirit will give Karen wonderful support during this time. We’re all praying for her, rooting for her, and believing in her!
Ashley @ Hudson on the Potomac says
Glad you enjoyed Pasture!!! I have only been to the one in Richmond for drinks, I need to go for dinner!
Amy says
I, too, send my love and prayers for Karen. I don’t even know her, but when I see her picture I know she is a great spirit.
Now on a materialistic note – love the small glass for your cocktail at the top…..Do you know the name-brand? or where you got it?
KathEats says
Yes this is it 🙂

I used to read your blog religiously, but in the past couple years got caught up with life and stopped keeping up. I just wanted to post to let you know that Mazen is absolutely to die for, you look amazing, your photos look fantastic, your writing is still great, creative, and fun, and… I’m just really impressed with you and the blog. It especially blows me away that you’re able to keep it so interesting! I definitely plan to check more often now that I’m getting back into healthy eating. Thanks for doing what you do!
GrandPeePaw says
That split pic of you and Kanz each holding Maze makes it seem like you had identical twins 🙂

Hi Kath! I read the news about Karen recently and I was struck by how it mirrored some news I had gotten recently about my dad (he just found out a cancer he was treated for 2 yrs ago has returned). I also have young kids, and I was wondering how you and Matt are planning to handle/balance Mazen’s and Karen’s caretaking needs over the next few months as she recovers from surgery and undergoes radiation/chemo? I know she lives close to you guys. I am a little concerned about this because my dad is also divorced and many of the caretaking duties will fall on me. I guess it may be a little simpler for you because you have 1 kid and I have 3. 🙂 Take care and we’re all thinking about Karen and sending her good wishes!!
Lisa @bitesforbabies says
I have to go to that restaurant…love the decor AND the menu 😉
Heather @ Fit Mama Real Food says

Kath- Pasture looks awesome! Was this the soft opening for local journalists? Is the restaurant open to the general public now? Yum
KathEats says
It’s open!
Emma says
Now this is totally random BUT! I just have to say that in every single picture of you, your skin looks amazing, do you use anything special to keep it that way?
I eat very healthy and work out and drink loads of water and all that, but nothing seems to be working for me.
Sorry if this is a little bit out of the blue, I have been following your blog for quite a while and I’ve been wanting to ask this question for sooo long. ^^

Dear Kattie,
Would you be needing some pasture scenic oil paintings to decorate the new place? . I have oils of horses in patures, rabbits in pastures and more available for display.. Contact me at [email protected] and let me know if you would like me to bring them in to the new restaurant at Stonefield. . I am a local Albemarle County artist and will be displaying my art tomorrow, Oct 5 and Oct 6 at the Whitehall Vineyard. Would love to talk to you there. So come on in. and ask for Shelly. You can probably recognize my pasture scenes on display. Will try to secure a spot inside. Looking forward to meeting you.
