A restaurant. Home improvement. The market. A birthday party. Shopping. Yoga. A cookout. Great weekend packed with things!!
On a rainy Friday night we tried out a new restaurant here in Cville – Sedona Taphouse. It has a bazillion beers on tap and in bottle, so it was right up our alley. We shared a flatbread and I had a crab cake salad. Also a beer sampler with New Holland Dragon’s Milk – one of my favs!
Saturday Matt baked sweets at the bakery in the morning (which has a 3:30am start time) and Mazen and I went on a long walk on our way to the City Market. It was so crisp out I got excited for Fall and when I told this to Matt he got mad at me – for some reason he does not like “the death of Fall” when compared to the “abundance of summer.”
We will be excited when cooler weather makes our walks longer and more enjoyable though!
The market was boomin’
I paid Heather a visit to No Bull Burgers!
Mazen had a sample. He loves them!
I also found a new vendor making juice!
I decided to try out one of the greenest ones
Whew was it green!! But very refreshing for a summertime pre-yoga snack.
After the market we hung out around the house working on some projects – such as cleaning the grill.
GROSS! Soaking grates.
Making the beds
And my favorite – touching up paint!
Thanks Matt <3
Saturday evening we headed to the park to celebrate Mazen’s friend Simon’s first birthday!!
Salads, chips, veggies, BBQ!
Look at these sweet boys playin’.
And sharing!
Simon had a good time with his cake – first he tested the waters
And then he said “just get in my belly already!’”
Back home, once Maze went to sleep, Matt and I had a Mad Men party with Manhattans to celebrate the end of Netflix and Season 5
Here’s my Don impression:
We toasted to the end of our era only to realize that Season 6 is all on Comcast On Demand, so there is more to see! Yay!
Ahh sweet Sunday.
We were up at 5:45. I went for a short run. Then out shopping at Homegoods all by myself!
I bought the seagrass mirror on the left for the basement, which has been slowly getting a facelift of sophistication to balance out all the toys. I coveted the piece on the right for jar storage in the kitchen! It won’t fit in mine – maybe it will fit in yours?
Late afternoon I joined my friend Genevieve for a BAPTISTE HOT POWER YOGA class!! Our friend Curry is working on opening a studio. While it is yet to be determined how or when, she’s getting the word out with some pop-up classes. We flowed in 90 degrees for 90 minutes in her open living room with about 12 other people and had a great class!! Tons of sweat. Loved it.
Karen joined us for Sunday dinner from the grill – carrots (great grilled!), eggplant and London Broil.
Matt and I shared an ice cream sandwich from the market for dessert. Yum!
Ali @ Peaches and Football says
Not sure where to start – the grilled veggies, all that AMAZING fruit, Mazen and Simon in the pack and play… Just a lot of great stuff.
I am not a fan of summer heat at all. In fact, Fall is “typically” my favorite time of the year. Except these last few years I’ve not liked it as much because I think about the long Winter ahead. I am NOT a Winter fan! If we could go from Spring to Fall to Spring again, I would be a happy girl! 🙂
Kinsey says
Simon with the cake is absolutely adorable! I wish it would be considered okay for us to dive head first into a piece of cake!
Chelsea Preedy says
Great weekend recap! That hot yoga class sounds fabulous. I have been wanting to try one out, but haven’t yet. I will have to go, try it out, and get my sweat on sometime!
Lindsey @ The Next Course says
So fun to read about your market trips, because mine are always so similar! I was too overwhelmed by the many options to buy a juice last week–but good to know you liked the super green one! And, I went for a pop tart rather than an nice cream sandwich from that new vendor–what flavor ice cream sandwich did you all try?
Also, I can’t believe how soon M will be the one have his 1st birthday party! Wow!
KathEats says
The Earl Grey! It was incredible.
Carly @ Snack Therapy says
I love Mazen’s nautical little outfits. So teeny tiny! Jealous of your grilled veggie dinner. Perfect summer food!
Karen says
You are hysterical….love your “Don” impression!! 🙂
BTW, you are looking especially gorgeous these days…must be attributable to the “abundance of summer!” 🙂

I seriously feel like my house is SO undecorated. I think I need to just start venturing out and getting the odd thing here and there and piece it together that way!! Your farmers market dominates my small hometown’s haha. I would love a fresh juice stand!!
Melissa says
Those grilled veggies look great! Plus, that birthday cake is picturesque!
Megan says
I’m based in Charlottesville myself and love hot flow yoga. How would one get on the pop-up class list?

What great looking fruit at the market and grilled veggies at your home! I love that you and Matt capitalize on together time, and especially with those good looking cocktails. I personally am also a fall girl, but I will miss the summer produce once it begins to wane again!
Susan H @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
All those fresh berries looked amazing at the market…the grilled veggies looked amazing. I just love summer abundance. The heat here in Southern Ontario is on high…early morning runs are a must…even then I end up soaked! I could do with one of those juice laundry drinks. 🙂
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
Oh goodness, what a fun weekend! All of the food looks fabulous, and it sounds like you had a great time. Love your pink shorts! 😉
Tonya says
I agree with Matt. Too early to drop the ” F” word, Kath. I would’ve given you the side eye too. -___- .
I’m not a big cocktail drinker but that Manhattan…..mmm. I could be convinced to try that.
And girly, you’re lookin’ great!
KathEats says
Haha the F word
Lauren @ The Highlands Life says
What a great weekend. All of our friends love Mad Men but we have yet to get into it. Right now we are in the thick of LOST and it’s killing us. Every night after we put the babe to bed we try and watch 2-3 episodes.
KathEats says
I miss Lost!
Nina @ Too Hottie For That Body says
It has been cooler here in Colorado as well and I couldn’t help but get excited for fall to arrive. It was only a few months ago that I was pining for the arrival of summer. I need to just learn to live in the moment. It’s so typical… always wanting what I can’t have 😉
Amy @ Fun Being Mum says
Wow Kath, the grilled veggies looked so good, i know what i’ll be taking to throw on my next BBQ!
I love your weekend round ups, it’s beautiful where you live!
Emily @ Life on Food says
I cannot get enough of the baby in diaper summertime look. Too cute!
Anele @ Success Along the Weigh says
67 days until Fall! But whose counting…oh yeah, ME!!! The heat has made all of my herbs bolt and has made evenings on the patio more rare. Double boo! Your farmers market looks amazing, I would love to go to one like that.
I LOVE the mirror you bought! So cute! Now I’m wondering if our Home Goods carries it, it would look dang good in my living room! 🙂
Emily K @ Leaf Parade says
So much good stuff here! Those carrots on the grill look crazy good — I’ll need to try that very soon, maybe drizzled with some tahini! Also, I’m in love with that bedspread — where’s it from?
And your Don Draper impression is right-on 😉
-Emily K.
KathEats says
It’s Pottery Barn. 😉
Maggie @ Sunnyside Up Smile says
The market you go to looks phenomenal! Wish we had something like that by us!
Lauryn says
Awwe you look so cute in those pink shorts with your hair up!!!
Natasha says
Those grilled veggies look delicious! Do you do anything prior to putting the carrots on the grill so they don’t take so long? I have tried grilling them on several occasions, but it seems like they are always raw in the center.
KathEats says
They arealways slightly crunchy in the center for me
Natasha says
Thank you! I wasn’t sure if it was just me. 🙂
Christina @ The Beautiful Balance says
Every time you post about No Bull Burgers I drool and then I get sad because they have eggs in them 🙁
KathEats says
They have a vegan one now without egg!
Shel@PeachyPalate says
Perfect weekend! How could he not like Bull Burgers with a mum who loves em so much 🙂
katherine says
what make up/skin products do you use? My face is always red and nothing seems to cover it up well/ long. And I don’t like using chemically stuff!
KathEats says
Bare Minerals…love them!
Neha says

katie says
now that you finished mad men on netflix, you guys should check out orange is the new black! i wasn’t sure about it, but once you start it, it’s really hard to stop.
Alicia @ Wanna Be Ina says
Looks like a fantastic weekend! I looked at that same sea grass mirror today at my Home Goods here in Indiana.
Do you do anything special to carrots when you grill them? I am intrigued!
KathEats says
Nope just plop them on
Alexa says
What do you soak your grates in? That is going to be needed at our house soon!
Marissa@ohhhsolovely says
what a fun weekend! i certainly wish we had markets that nice here. maybe one day, i suppose!
Amy says
Looks like a great weekend indeed – I must try grilling carrots. They are appearing more and more in our weekly veggie delivery, never thought to grill them!
I need to ask and I mean no offence – but what’s happening with your legs in the picture with you holding the drink? Looks kind of odd?
KathEats says
LOL I have no idea! They are tightly zipped but at first glance it looked like my leg was bent to the left!
Evelyn says
I agree! but i think Amy is talking about the next picture! maybe it’s just the blur of the camera (but i am no expert!)
Those hydrangeas are beautiful!!!
KathEats says
I know. I think it’s a combo of a weird position and Matt taking the photo from his height
Meagan says
I’m a fan of your pink shorts 🙂
Cindy says
Absolutely LOVE the pink shorts! Where did you get them?
KathEats says
Loft
Miller says
Such a great post!! Those grilled veggies look absolutely amazing!!
Annabella says
Hi! Don’t think I have commented before but I have been reading your blog for a long time and love it! just popping in to say that I am watching mad men season 5 as well 🙂
Caitlin says
I received an email yesterday from a beer place up the road that does growlers saying the Pumpking beer you love will be in next week- made me think of you and we’ll definitely be stopping in to grab some 🙂
KathEats says
Excited!! We still have half a case from last year : )
Kristi says
I remember you had your house painted when you moved in – did you choose eggshell finish? Our whole house is Sherwin Williams eggshell and even with a dog and a baby we have never had to touch up! Anything that pops up is easily wiped off.
KathEats says
I think we did – but our trim is what gets dinged so much
Erika @ fortheloveofpeanutbutter says
Just looking at those fresh berries at the market makes me giddy!
Amanda says
That table of berries looks amazing! I could eat them all:-)
Jamey says
I thought I’d throw out there that I love your posting schedule lately. Lately eats on Monday, weekend catch up on Tuesday… Everything always looks so good! They make me want to move to Cville (and have you cook all of my meals 🙂 ) I thought I’d also let you know that you look fantastic!
Jenny says
What a hectic weekend you had! Love the first bite of the birthday cake and the happy smiles. The birthday tops it all.
Tami @Nutmeg Notebook says
I love Mad Men and your impression of Don is spot on!
Connie says
Eek! I’m confused! Is Netflix shutting down???? You said you were celebrating the end of Netflix… But maybe you meant the end of Mad Men on Netflix? 🙂
KathEats says
Yes the end of Mad Men on Netflix – at least what’s on right now!
Kavi says
I just tried the Dragon’s Milk for the first time this weekend! It’s delicious (but boy is it strong!).
Jessica says
I have those same shorts, so cute on you. You’re looking fabulous and sounds like you had a fun weekend!
Julie says
Hi there!
I’ve noticed you’re cute sandals in a couple of posts and must know what brand they are! I’m expecting my first baby and I’m looking for a more supportive/cute/comfy/ sandal that’s better than a flip flop. Love the ones you’re wearing in you’re Don Draper pose 😉
Thanks!
Julie
KathEats says
They are Modabella from Marshalls. Sooooo comfy and versatile!
