By land or by sea, we’re trekking home –
Just seeing the beautiful landscape reminds me why it is good to travel out when you live in a city and in when you don’t.
We picked up lunch at Penn Station. Salad for me (a build-your-own-from-behind-the-counter style) with chickpeas, peas, egg, green pepper, carrots and raisins.
I ate 2/3 and shared with Matt because he shared his salt + vinegar chips with me!
I also had this bagel log – half at lunch and half just now as a snack. There was a thin layer of cream cheese inside. Goodbye new york!
Some train trip excitement:
Excited for Cville! This train is HOT! I have removed 3 layers. We must be getting close!
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Comeback soon, Kath! That salad looks pretty tasty, as does the bagel log. Have a safe and pleasant trip home. 😀
Lynn @ the actor's diet says
Ahhh diet dr pepper. My crack.

I love those salt and vinegar chips…just love! Glad you guys had (are still having!) a good little trip.
Krissy @ Shiawase Life says
haha I know this is a weird comment, but it surprised me to see a Dr Pepper in this blog!

Soft drinks are fun every now and then. I only tend to get them on long trips for some reason. Perhaps a childhood connection?
Glora says
I only get them on long trips too!
Cara @ I Don't Believe in Diets says
I have never heard of a bagel log but it sounds amazing.
Maria @ Sinfully Nutritious says
NY Bagels, nothing like them! I heard they have the best vegan cream cheese in the country. I would love to try it. That is a beautiful landscape photo, thanks for sharing.
Cat @Breakfast to Bed says
is that a raisin walnut bagel? MY FAVE. Were you at Zaro’s? YUM
kaila@ healthy helper blog! says
Hmmm bagel log?! Sounds good….though any type of bagel is usually a good thing! 😉 Cinnamon raisin?
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
It looks like a fabulous weekend! All of that food – omg. I’m adding those cupcakes to my list of things to try when I make it up there. 🙂
Safe travels!
Christine @ Oatmeal in my Bowl says
I love the jalapeno brand of those chips. So crunchy. Nice spice. S&V are my second fave.
And when you eat jalapenos (like in a turkey burger) don’t touch your eye after like I just did. Ouch. 😉

First look at a Bagel Log…yummy!

Fun trip! You said a bit ago that your staff was almost up to speed taking care of the bakery without you. Did you leave them in charge, or close? Was it hard to let go? You didn’t mention the bakery the whole weekend, so I was just wondering how you handled it.
KathEats says
Yes, they were fully trained in closing before we left. We don’t really know how it went, but from the reports and messages they’ve sent, seems like things have gone really well! Matt was surprisingly very relaxed all weekend.
Heather @ Run Eat Play says
Bagel log sounds like the most delicious thing I have ever heard of. Yum!
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
Hot trains…well, I’d take that over cold. Ever notice how airplanes are ridiculously cold most of the time. That, or hot as hades, and you’re sitting on the tarmack sweating. Climate control is apparently a big challenge.
Glad you guys had a great weekend in the big city!

I FROZE on our 14ish hour plane ride back to Okinawa this summer. Poor planning…I will always wear jeans on planes no matter what the outside temperature!
Kristen @ Change of Pace says
Diet soda is such a treat for me! I bet you’ll be glad to get home 🙂
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
i’m so glad you enjoyed a few authentic NYC bagels… i’m not a regular bagel person, but so worth the splurge when you’re in the city!

Glad you had fun! 😀

“…it is good to travel out when you live in a city and in when you don’t.” I agree wholeheartedly!
Sally | www.questorganic.com says
I am concerned that the bagel log will eventually convert into a log in your stomach 🙂
And the soda too!!
Only kidding – again, treats once in a while serve to balance out all the healthy eating 🙂

Mmmm, love me some bagel logs. Especially with a thick layer of cream cheese smooshed in between. Doesn’t get much better than that. Actually it does, when chased by a big swig of some Diet DP. Now that’s a tasty and oh-so-not-so-healthy little snack. Gotta live a little, though, right? Have a safe trip home!
Cait's Plate says
Can’t go to NY without getting at least one bagel 🙂 I’m glad you’re on your way back home – it always feels nice to sleep in your own bed again after being away. Safe travels home!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I’ve never seen or heard of a bagel log before! I like that idea though because there’s no hole for the toppings to fall through!
