There’s something about a house full of people that brings a home alive. Two by two our guests arrived, and our house was filled with conversation, laughing, and the clinking of glasses and silverware. As they departed, I welcomed the silence back almost as much as I welcomed the noise when they arrived. The ebb and flow of life! All that remains from the weekend are the floral centerpieces and lots of leftovers.
Breakfast Monday morning was centered around all that was left of our fruit bowl: one big apple. I chopped it up and microwaved it over a little leftover oatmeal plus some ground flax and a big spoonful of peanut butter.
Grammie and Pea played with Mazen while Larbs and I went on a long morning walk.
Lunch was a sandwich inspired by Matt’s sandwich: leftover ham and avocado with mayo (key for an epic sandwich, as Matt will tell you) and Dijon mustard (key with ham!) Plus leftover kale salad on the side. A little cake for dessert!!
I did 6 loads of laundry yesterday – all the guest sheets and towels, cloth napkins and dish towels from a busy kitchen weekend, plus all the laundry missed over the weekend x3 people. It was cleansing! I also cleaned the house and got ready to slide back into daily life.
Leftovers made dinner super easy!!
Matt and I stayed up late last night watching Duke win!! I held my breath the whole second half – it was a good game. So happy for Coach K too!
1991…{lol at me – this reminds me of Buzz’s girlfriend from Home Alone!}
1992…{MY BANGS!?!}
And now!
In the process of digging up those newspaper photos, my mom found some other vintage Duke pictures –
When Duke won in the championship in 1992 our parents took us out of school (which was rare and sooo exciting!) to welcome them home to Cameron. I remember there was a HUGE cake – the size of a table! This was from that day (with our friends the Elys!)
Grant Hill autographs!
Another back-to-back win would be mighty exciting : )

A House really does come alive when guests arrive especially when there’s a lot. I went to a dinner Easter and it was such an amazing social event.
Looks like you had a blast 🙂

Mazen looks JUST like you!! Great photos!

The picture of you as a baby with the kitty looks so much like Mazen. I love looking at old photos – so much fun to re-share the memories.
Ella says
Haha Kath that pic of you with the bangs and goofy headband from 1992 is SO MEEEE except I had brown hair. But yep, awkward bangs and those cloth material, kind of raised headbands… oh man.

Brilliant pics!! Why did we all have bangs when were smaller…I’ll never do it to my child, so hard to grow out!
Annabet says
You need to take a photo of Mazen holding that newspaper then frame it side by side with your photo!

We live in the college town where we went to college. I hope our kids love it as much as we have. Right now they don’t have a choice lol.

Ahhh that’s so fun that your school won the championship!! I remember when we won it a few years back, everybody was going nuts. Looks like your whole family is Duke legacy too–bred from birth!!

Amazing photos! I was living in Durham when win #4 happened and it was just electrifying. I was sad to not be by campus for last night’s win, but it was mighty exciting to watch! I think I lost about 4 fingernails in the second half from biting on them too much. 😉
Laurie says
Mazen looks like you!
Nikki says
HA! Buzz…woof! Fantastic pictures.
And that ham. I didn’t get any ham for Easter this year and I’m regretting it BIG TIME!

The new mobile site doesn’t show the date of the post (it’s not on the opening page or when you click to read the actual post). Do you think this is something you will add back in?
KathEats says
Hmm…I will bring this up. Thanks for noticing
Sandra says
Is ham a traditional food in USA for Easter? We in Australia have it at Christmas time along with roast turkey.
Elyse says
Love the photos! I’m pretty sure every 90s girl had those bangs!
Andrea says
I love the curled bangs in one of the photos! My Mom always used to puff up my bangs and I’d cry … oh the good ol 80s.
