Tonight was super relaxing – couch time, home videos, pizza.
We spent a few hours getting hungry watching old videos from college. Even one video I made from Thanksgiving 2001 where we got to see two of our cats who have since passed away as well as Gram Y and Pop, who also are no longer with us. It was quite a surreal video.
When hunger came a’knockin’, we got up to make our pizzas.
Matt made his crust using his awesome pizza stone method.
We made two – one with Organic Butcher sausage, shitake mushrooms, smoked paprika, tomato paste, smoked cheddar and spinach and the other with nearly the same combo plus bleu d’auvergne.
I had 3 pieces plus a big pile of simple spinach salad
And a small glass of Petit Verdot – which Matt proclaims as “the most amazing pizza wine ever.” [This is why he bought it today!]
We had a sweet bite to conclude the holiday – the last of our dessert leftovers. Pumpkin Oh, Pecan Pie, pumpkin pie. <3
Back to the videos – I hear Davidson Self Selection Night 2002 is up next!

I wish my parents blogged my childhood, I miss it. I think the best part of blogging is being able to look back on all the memories 😉
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
The home video camera was one of the best inventions! I love watching old movies – such a great way to preserve memories.
That pumpkin roll looks amazing. We knocked out a pumpkin bread pudding tonight. I’m always a little sad and a little relieved when the last piece of a dessert is gone. LOL!
lynn @ the actor's diet says
i love watching old videos – my husband has so many from his childhood – no surprise he turned out a filmmaker!
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
delicious evening! i’m still trying to figure out why my pizzas never look as perfect as yours 🙂
i love watching old movies… such a fun family time activity. enjoy the night!
sally mae says
We made homemade pizzas tonight too! Pizza stones are the best, but we finally had to get a pizza peel to go with it. We don’t have awesome GH dough to use, but I tried a recipe out of this cookbook and it was really tasty!

My pizza stone is my pizza BABY. It’s like a cradle. No pizza without the pizza cradle. Nope.

Hi Kath!
Your centerpiece on your Thanksgiving table is so pretty. Are those cranberries?!
Thanks for posting your recipes. Your Thanksgiving posts were beautiful. 🙂

KathEats says
Thanks! Yep, just cranberries in a blue jar!
Julie H. of Spinach and Sprinkles says
I love looking back on things like this! …. Last Thanksgiving we got to watch a video that had my Grandma in it, who passed about three years ago. It was such a blessing to get to take a look at the past. Enjoy the rest of your night! 🙂
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
We watched family videos from back in the day on Thanksgiving! I think I’m going to have the VHS made into DVDs for my parents for Christmas actually as a gift because I’m thinking my parents might be the only people on the planet with a legit VHS player still and I’m not sure how long that will last!
KathEats says
Did you use a local company do convert them?
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
I haven’t done it yet, just looked into it. I can’t seem to find any local companies so the only options I’ve found are Walgreens (or other drug stores) or buying the software to do it myself on the computer. Drugstores seem like the base charge is $25 and I think that’s only 1 VHS so the $50-$60 investment of buying the software seems like a better deal but I’m just scared to do it myself!
Erin says
My brother (who lives in NC!) has his own videography business. He does great work…I can vouch for him. He has converted all of our own family’s videos for us. He also does video montages (he made one of my son to use for his business!). Check him out – his website is www.morrisonvp.com and here’s the link to the photo montage he made for me – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fMCyIPD0Lg
KathEats says
Your montage is so cute! I’d use your brother but I think I’d rather find something local so I don’t have to worry about shipping – but thanks!
Christine @ Oatmeal in my Bowl says
I think I need to add ‘pizza stone’ to my Christmas Wish List. 😉 YUM!
Amie K says
Hi there,
Can you share the pizza crust recipe please?
The whole thing looks wonderful.
Thank you.
Khushboo says
We had pizza for dinner too…although ours was takeout!
Jen says
Nothing wrong with takeout either 🙂
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
your pizzas always look so good! I need to try making my own
Jen says
I was going to ask if Matt was the only chef in his family or if his brother cooks/bakes as well? You really should consider selling those at GH! 🙂
Are you more of a red wine or white drinker? I used to red but now prefer the tastes of white or a oaked chardonnay.
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
ooooh that pizza looks delicious! I love a good homemade pizza with really yummy crust–so that looks perfect. enjoy your night 🙂
Nina says
Were you in an eating house, Kath? I’m gonna guess Warner…unless you were a Conner girl 😉
(I went to Davidson too…) 🙂
KathEats says
You are correct on both accounts – I was in Connor at Self Selection and then switched to Warner during my sophomore year when I made new friends in a new dorm : ) (Akers, if you’re wondering 🙂 )
Nina says
Haha, sophomore appartments…they were probably promising to renovate them when you were there too. lol
KathEats says
Hahaha yesssss!
Meagan says
Family videos are so fun! I wish people would do them more often today!
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
What a fun night watching the Lost Footage. It’s always fun to see what everyone was wearing and what the hairstyles were like 🙂
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
That’s a nice, fluffy pizza dough! Yum.
Tami@Nutmeg Notebook says
My parents had 8mm film of us when we were kids! I guess I am giving away my age with that statement but that’s ok! I love seeing the old black and whites.
Karen says
What a perfect looking low-key Saturday evening. I wish my parents captured my childhood on film.
I bet Matt’s handsome pizzas sold by the slice would be a huge hit at the bakery. Perhaps you could experiment on a limited basis, when you can spare oven space.
Hope you guys have an equally relaxing Sunday, Kath.
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
How fun!! Haha the pizza looks fab 🙂
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
Pizza is always good! I need to try making it myself.

Also- I’m a current senior at Davidson…. You filmed self selection night?! That’s amazing! I wish we had thought of that. Maybe this year!
I really love your blog, I’ve made a list of new recipes to try for this week!

I wish my family had taken more home videos when I was little, although my high school friends have some priceless ones. 🙂 If/when I have kids, I’m going to be sure to take lots of photos and videos.

Also that pizza crust looks so perfectly thick and doughy! I can never get mine like that.

Marcella says
Matt’s way of making pizza is the same way I make my pizza. And the same instructions that came with my pizza stone!! But I will say, it’s the best way to make pizza. I also put a little olive oil on the crust before I bake it. Makes for the crispiest crust.
~Christy @ wonderofallthings says
Homemade pizza is the BEST of the best! So, so good — yours looks fantastic! And with vino, to boot…good night.
