Workout
We hit the gym from 10:45 – noon. It was the most crowded I’ve seen it since last January and it’s not even New Year’s yet! Argh! I had to do an older elliptical machine, but it was surprisingly challenging on resistance 14. I was pretty sweaty and my legs were worn out at the end of my 40 minutes. Then the husband and I did some pull-ups and dips with the weighted assistance. You know, it makes so much sense that my small arm muscles can’t lift 120 lbs of body weight, but with 40-50 pounds of help, I’m pretty good at pull-ups! It was fun to do something different and I think we’ll try to incorporate the machine into our normal lifting routines. Also did a quite bit of abs on another standing machine – 400 kcal burned. And boy was I greasy by the end – which is why I hate going to the gym late! I’m a shower-a-holic 8)
Lunch
Once we were home, showered and dressed it was 12:30 and I was getting REALLY hungry but we still had the fries to make, which took FOR-EV-ER to cook!!! I was mega grumpy by the end of the video – hope you can’t tell! I wanted to eat my sandwich and grapefruit, but then my lunch post would have been all broken. Oh well! We finally sat down to eat at 1:40 or so.
Here are the fries from the video. They ended up being 175 kcal for my portion – quite hefty for lunch!
I also had a spiral ham, swiss, tomato and hot pepper sandwich, broiled in the oven. YUM! It’s amazing how much a little jalapeño does for a sandwich.
And lastly, grapefruit – 9.25 oz worth!
All together for 565 kcal (and worth the wait!):
Shopping
Since the fries took a while to cook, we were running late meeting my friend at the mall and didn’t get to enjoy lunch as much as we should have. One of my biggest pet peeves in life is having to rush a meal! So we quickly cleaned up and were out the door for about 2 hours of shopping. I logged an extra 150 kcal for all the walking, which may even be a little conservation since we walked all over the place (again, since my NET is set to “sedentary” anytime I do a big chunk of movement I give myself more room for fuel).
Ann Taylor has a new night of body care and they were BOGO Free so I got the orange blossom and honey suckle. No other purchases.
And since we’re on a roll documenting my life, the husband whipped out the camera while he was holding my purse in front of LOFT
Snack
We got home around 4:30 and I had a cup of Candy Cane tea. I didn’t really need a snack because of the late lunch, but I might nibble on something before dinner.
Now I’m researching recipes for dinner (we have the base but need ideas for a sauce that uses half and half but isn’t too caloric). In just a few minutes we’ll break out last night’s wine!

Hi Kath! I just recently found your blog through another food blog… and I love it! So many great ideas for meals and ideas on how to eat healthfully. I absolutely loved your video on how to make sweet potato fries. I'll definitely have to make those soon. 🙂 Just a question… to track your foods' calories, do you primarily use CalorieKing.com? And to measure your foods, do you usually have a rough estimate in your head from having made foods previously, or do you always weigh your food on the scale? (Not sure if I should go invest in a scale… I definitely don't know how to eyeball ounces!)

Aw Kath, you and your husband are one of the preppiest (and cutest) couples I know of! I haven't left a note in while but I just wanted to remind you how beneficial your blog is for all us healthy eaters! Thanks 🙂

Sarah,
I use CalorieKing most of the time and do measure most of my foods. There are a few things that I can just eyeball, but I am SO BAD at eyeballing portions. Sometimes I test myself with my scale to see how accurate I am and am WAY off, so I continue to measure. CalorieKing is so user friendly that I don't find it a hassle to enter in the weights. It's just has easy/hard to enter in "1 medium apple" as it is "4 oz of apple" so why not be as accurate as I can? 🙂
Danielle,
I'll take preppy as a compliment !?
