Have a lovely morning! 😀
KathEats says
Well most mornings he eats bread at the bakery 🙂 But on the weekends or special occasions we eat the same thing
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
Try as I may… my fiance just doesn’t care for oatmeal. He is a bagel or muffin man all the way!
Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says
I can’t get Greg to go for overnight oats. Don’t know why- they are awesome! He is just not an “oatmeal guy.”
Way to leave us with a cliff-hanger. Have fun on the adventure!
diana says
Sadly I cant really eat sugar or carbs..Do you mainly eat oatmeat for breakt or do egg type dishes too? I will take a look through your recipes
KathEats says
Diana,
There seem to be two kinds of people in the world: those who prefer carb-y breakfasts and those who like savory eggs, veggies, and things. I’m definitely in the card group – in fact, most of the time eggs sound horrible to me first thing in the morning but I love them for lunch and dinner! I do eat them on occasion, but most of my breakfasts revolve around oats or whole grains.
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Was the spoon’s position purposely arranged like that or just on accident? haha
Have fun on whatever adventure you’re off on!

I have read your blog for several months and really enjoy it. I like it because the meals are fairly simple, there is a variety of foods, and yet healthy. My question is, I would like to loose some weight and I know you are a R.D. – any recomendations besides the obvious (sugar, fat, junk)… Would you jump start and do South Beach, would you eliminate certain things? I tried to write down all I eat, but that is a pain in the neck. I am a pre-diabetic and this is the year I want to become healthy and fit – I’ll be 60… Thank you so much for any input – I appreciate it and don’t want to take too much of your time. Have a nice weekend!
KathEats says
Hey Susan,
I would definitely not recommend any diets out there – with maybe the exception of Weight Watchers because it doesn’t eliminate food groups. My recommendations would be:
Cut way back on sugar and desserts – have them only at special occasions or ‘worth it’ times
Cut way back on alcohol – same criteria as desserts
Get rid of/donate the junk food in your house if it’s tempting you (it will either be waste or waist!)
Move for an hour everyday – this can be walking in short 10 minute sessions or more intense gym sessions
Focus on the quality of foods you eat – eat real food! Choose an apple and almonds over a Clif bar or a piece of quality dark chocolate over a cup of fat-free ice cream.
Eat veggies at every lunch and dinner (and consider reading the book Superfoods HealthStyle
Sip water, tea and seltzer – use milk and juice (and alcohol and sodas!) sparingly
Have a protein, carb and fat at every meal/snack
Create a flexible meal plan and do a bit of prep on the weekends if you’re very busy
Stock your fridge with your favorite whole foods
Good luck!
susan says
Thank you so very much for your suggestions – I appreciate it. I’ll actually be going to Whole Foods this weekend…
Have a wonderful trip and weekend!

Oooooooh I love adventures! I like to think every day can be an adventure…today’s adventure involved trudging through the snow with the wheaten terrier we are taking care of. I think he found every stick out there and investigated every tree and telephone pole. We’ll have another adventure date this afternoon. Have fun on your adventure!

Jealous! I mindlessly threw out my peanut butter jar and completely forgot to make overnight oats in it 🙁
Lousi says
Could you tell me what Coach’s oats and Cookie butter are?
Thanks!
KathEats says
Sure!
Coach’s Oats are steel cut oats that have been cracked so they cook up super fast. They have the hearty texture of steel cut but the cooking time of rolled. http://coachsoats.com/
Cookie butter is a Trader Joe’s product that is like a peanut butter but tastes like gingerbread cookies. It was inspired by Specloos aka Biscoff spreads. It’s not a health food, but it is incredibly delicious. Think chocolate ganache texture.
Lousi says
Thanks, Kath! The Coach’s oats sound amazing. I live in Canada, so there is no Trader Joe’s here. I’ll have to try some the next time I’m in Philly visiting relatives!
[New Balance] Nicole says
Cute post! I just tried over night oats the other morning and they were pretty good!
Steve says
I’m not sure anyone will see this or not, hopefully. I am interested in using mason jars to make the overnight oatmeal in the mornings (brilliant idea btw) i was wondering though, i’ve never used mason jars before. i’m reading about sterilizing them, is that necessary if i plan on just using them to make overnight oatmeal? or is that only for people that are canning/preserving food for a period of time?
obviously, i’ll give them a good rinse with soap and hot water before using them, but just curious if that extra step of sterilization is necessary.
stupid question i know. thanks for any feedback
KathEats says
If you’re just using them like a bowl, washing properly or dishwashering should be just fine. If you’re going to can or jam in them, you do want to sterilize.
Steve says
Great! thanks for the quick reply! love this site!
