Happy early morning!!
We were up at 4:45 to leave for the airport. All excited and chipper for now!
Chief Executive Mom:
Baby KERF says hi
I had a banana upon waking
And a few sips of Matt’s coffee
But the real fun is in my lunchbox!
I made hard-boiled eggs yesterday for the perfect travel protein. Plus cheese + crackers, fruit, trail mix and a breakfast sandwich from Great Harvest.
This is breakfast part II – almond butter, honey, granola on Cville Crunch!!
I’m not sure if our flight has wifi so I’m blogging from Dulles as fast as I can!! See you in San Diego!
[MY NEW COMPUTER ROCKS!! SO FAST! SO COOL!]
Kaila @healthyhelperblog! says
Have a great trip kath! San Diego is one of my favorite cities!!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
You’re pretty good at packing food for the airport! I always end up with just an apple and a granola bar… haha. Have a safe trip!
Joss says
looks like some yummy travel food right there 😀 Have a safe trip!
Roxanne says
My mom travels to the U.S. from Canada, so she has to be at the airport 2 hours early and she would like to bring some fruit, like an apple but they took it away from her. She is still in the airport, not in the plane…That’s strict. Come on, really? She just wanted to snack on it while waiting for the plane. She would have finished it in about 5 minutes… Next time she will bring a banana, they cannot say that’s a Canadian fruit.
Have fun!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
When traveling internationally they seldom let you take any fruit. It sucks, I almost got in a fight with the customs agent in the Bahamas over an apple a few years ago. Personally, I think there are way more important things to be worried about crossing borders than fruit!
Jess says
Fruit can be really dangerous. It can carry bugs etc, and some countries have to be strict to protect their unique and delicate ecosystems. In NZ the fine for bringing in fruit from another country is $200. On the spot, no questions asked. That is because the wrong fruit/bugs can disrupt and distroy our ecosystem.
Andrea @FrSeed2Stomach says
I got stopped by US customs once for an orange that I forgot was in my backpack. It traveled all the way from Sweden. I wanted to eat it on the plane, but forgot about it and a little dog at baggage claim went nuts when he found me and my Swedish orange! No produce, seeds, or plants can cross international borders without special clearance.
Lily says
Safe traveling! Have a lovely time in San Diego 🙂 xo
Khushboo says
That sandwich sounds great- the only thing missing is a side of milk!
Stephanie @ Legally Blinde says
Your travel snacks look delicious (and that sandwich sounds like an amazing combo! I’ve never thought of putting granola on a sandwich before). I’m planning a trip in a few weeks and have been jotting down some ideas for healthy snacks to take with me; hard-boiled eggs were on my list but I didn’t know if that would be strange – glad to see you thought they were good travel snacks, too! Have a safe flight!
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
I love travel snacks! Your bits and bats look like a great combo…happy travels!
Michelle @ Esculent Dreams says
omgoodness all your snacks look great!!! i’ll be traveling (by road, but still) next week so thanks for sparking some new ideas in my mind! 😉 have a great trip!
Justeen @ Blissful Baking says
I love packing/eating travel snacks – so fun! Have a good flight!
Lindsay @ Running the Windy City says
The Cville crunch looks so good!
Safe travels!
Kathy says
The travel snacks look great! I am beginning to experiment with making my own whole grain sourdough! So far, the first batch turned out dense, but tasty; do you have any advice on how to make it less dense?
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
Your plane meals look just as good at at home meals! Have a great trip!
Kori says
Safe travels, and have fun!!
Angel7 says
Wishing you both safe travels! Catch some CA rays, and bring them back east 🙂

Wow, I never thought of hard boiled eggs as a travel snack but that’s perfect! Safe travels and have fun in San Diego – I’ve never been but it’s on my list. Can’t wait to see what you get up to!
faith says
Just please don’t eat them on the plane! I love hard boiled eggs but the smell of someone else’s is one of the grosser aromas! (and I don’t even have a sensitive nose!)
Sarah says
I was going to say the exact same thing! Eggs are NOT a good airplane snack. Kath please tell us you didn’t eat them on the plane!?
Lizzie says
I LOVE YOUR PICTURES, favorite blog by far!
KathEats says
Thank you 🙂
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
oh i wish i was on my way to san diego right now! 🙂 have fun!
Sarah@The Flying ONION says
You probably talked about your new computer and I totally missed it. Off to look at your back posts to see if I can find some info on it, as I’m looking for a new laptop as well! Mine is so sloggishly slow!
Love your choice of eats! 😀
Simply Life says
I love the foods you pack for traveling- I’m never that creative!
Maria@ Sinfully Nutritious says
You make the best snacks. Your hard boiled eggs reminded me of the vegan deviled tofu “eggs” I made awhile ago. I am going to have to make them again this weekend. They are a perfect protein rich snack to keep in the fridge!
Have a safe trip.
Becca @ Blueberry Smiles says
Those look like the best airplane eats! I bring hard boiled eggs too….though I’m always afraid they smell and annoy other flyers lol
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Eggs might be a great protein option but I’d totally be giving you a dirty look if you peeled that thing on the plane next to me! Can’t deny the stench of hard boiled eggs! 😉
faith says
Ha! That’s exactly what I was thinking!
Paige @ Healthy Hits the Spot says
Haha, I would be afraid of the smell too. But that is a great snack! Love the consistency of your posts Kath! You never leave us hanging, and we always look forward to reading about your days!
Heidi Bundles Of Hugs says
Have a great trip!
Kelly @ Vegolosophy says

Kath – I just wanted to say a belated congratulations! I am especially excited for the baby kerf posts! Best wishes 🙂
KathEats says
Thanks Emily!
Roxanne says
Oh no! KERF is now known for S.M.E.L.L.Y. eggs!
RachelSD says
The weather here in SD is good- we’re having a cool, misty morning but it’s supposed to be 70 degrees this afternoon. Hope you get to be outside a bit when you get here!
Kris says
As much as I love hard boiled eggs, the only place I eat them is in the privacy in my own home. Too many other funky smells (and funky people) in the close confines of a plane.
Cait's Plate says
Glad you’re loving your new computer! And that you’re off to sunny San Diego! So jealous! Have so much fun 🙂
Molly @ RDexposed says
And a lemon?
Chris says
Happy Travels you guys! Hope this wind didn’t make it too bumpy!!
Emily says
Mmm, yummy airplane bits! When I was younger, I LOVED “going out to eat” in airports – it felt like such a treat! – and I couldn’t figure out why my parents always made us pack sandwiches. Now I know why! I despise airport food, so I make something of a game of trying to pack the most nutritious + fun + portable snacks. Heidi at 101 Cookbooks has some great ideas! I’ve been afraid to take eggs, though… I’m worried I’ll get dirty looks because of the smell 😛
Have a safe flight and a good trip! Enjoy CA, my home state 🙂
Jessica says
I was thinking this same thing! Funny!
Kelli H (Made in Sonoma) says
totally crossed my mind, too…haha.
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Have fun!! Great snacks 🙂
Sydney@ Nutrition with Sydney says
As I was scrolling down to find the BERF link on the side of your page, I saw that you have an app to read KERF on your phone?! How have I never known this before?? You need to do some serious advertising for that on your blog, because that is super exciting! Now I can spend even more time perusing your blog!
Happy travels! 🙂
KathEats says
I figured it was easy to see when scrolling 😉 I have lots of people love reading that way! I need one for BERF too!
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
I didn’t know you were coming to San Diego! HAVE FUN!!!!
Kristin says
Oh dear lord. I really hope you won’t be eating those eggs on the plane! That would be very inconsiderate to your fellow travelers. Since you have pregnancy on the brain… Just think…there could be another pregnant woman sitting near you and the stench could really bother her.
Jay says
I totally agree, Kristin!
Pam says
Ha HA HAAAA
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
Oh have fun! I love hardboiled eggs—perfect traveling snack. YUMM
Michelle (Better with Berries) says
I love packing lots of snacks for long days! Except I have a problem waiting to eat them and end up with nothing for lunch 🙂
Marie@feedingfive says
In reading the comments the other day I noticed you were going to be in Temecula tonight at the Great Harvest that is literally minutes from my home!!!!! I am tempted to come say Hi If I am home (might be at the beach).
Can you please recommend they carry Naturally Nutty, I’ve never been able to find it here and I can’t bear to pay shipping, just a thought. I am sure you will all have such fun comparing notes.
The owner probably won’t remember this but I was talking to him about a year or so ago and I mentioned you and your blog and how you were opening up a Great Harvest and I was appalled he hadn’t heard of you =)
Have fun in the sun, the weather is perfect right now.
Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says
Marie- Go say hi to Kath! She’s very friendly- and showed me around to some great spots when I was in Charlottesville!
And I’ll get you some Naturally Nutty next time I’m at a GH (the closest one to me is about 45 min away though).
KathEats says
We’ll be at the Temecula GH around 3 if you want to stop in and say hi!
Katie says
I just moved down to Palm Springs, which is pretty close to Temecula and San Diego. It is beautiful right now – enjoy the sunshine!
Baking Serendipity says
Travel snacks are totally essentially and you’ve nailed them 🙂 Hope your awake feelings last and you have a safe trip!
Pam says
how could you bring hard boiled eggs on a plane?
Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says
I consider myself a pro for packing airplane food- and it looks like you guys did a great job!
Enjoy the other coast- and the sunshine!
Lisa (bakebikeblog) says

I thought of your (Eggs on a Plane) as a comedy skit ala Seinfeld
Innocent faux pas and the social consequences seemed hilarious to me.
You might have removed my comment thinking I meant to offend.
Not the case. just my NY sence of humor.
KathEats says
Oh sorry, I didn’t know it was a joke
Elisabeth says
This travel post is too cute! I always forget to pack a snack and then regret it when hunting for something worth eating in airports. In the cheese & crackers, are those little shredded wheat cereal bits? haha
Catalina @ Cake with Love says
The sandwiches on GH bread always look delicious! Glad you like ur new pc
Sarah says
what a perfect snack pack! you are a great mom already!
Stacy @ Say It With Sprinkles says
Welcome to the west coast! Hope you’re having a fun time in San Diego!
Desiree says
I love that you packed your own food. Did you have any problems getting it through security? I am traveling from Atlanta,GA to Fairbanks, Alaska with my two kiddo’s this summer to visit family. I want to bring food/snacks to avoid airport food ($$$ and health factor.) Plus my son has a peanut allergy so I have to be careful. Have fun in sunny CA. I grew up in the SF Bay Area. I do miss it.
Nicole (MyLoveForCooking) says
Sorry I have been swamped as of late and am just catching up. Congratulations on the baby Kerf!!! You guys are the cutest couple, really happy for you both. So glad I found your blog. 🙂
