Today has been awesome so far!! We’ve been really busy and I’ve been running around the store – more than made up for missing my run this morning!
We’ve also had some exciting visitors!! It’s so exciting when people come from far and wide to visit the bakery.
KERF reader Meredyth is teaching English in Malaysia and her mother came in to buy her a bunch of goodies to send to her! Hi Meredyth!
ALSO, Kori and Kaci came to Cville from Oak Ridge, TN to celebrate their 23rd birthday!! I am honored they chose to have lunch at the bakery on the special occasion : )
Annnnnd our college buddies came in for lunch!! Thanks for your support, guys!
I nibbled on a few Cville Granola clusters throughout the morning and just sat down to a delicious Tofu + Pesto sandwich. YUM! I really can’t pick a favorite between this guy, the Curried Tuna or the Monticello Garden Hummus. They each take the top spot depending on my mood!
Matt is home napping (he only got 5 hours of sleep last night : ( ) and he’s coming back at 3 dressed for the wedding so that I can go home and shower to fancy myself up too.
Time to go bag some bread!
Molly @ RDexposed says
Garden hummus? What do I need to pull from my garden to get some of this happening??
Amanda says
Just wanted you to know I bought some Great Harvest Bread at my local farmer’s market. So good!
Khushboo says
The tofu looks perfect, so meaty and delicious!
The Teenage Taste says
Mmmm…that sandwich sounds fabulous! I just made some homemade pesto a few days ago too so I might try to recreate it.
Have fun at the wedding! 😀
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
I can’t believe I missed Kori and Kaci!! I’m missing out on so much bakery fun.
Kori says
=((( We missed you! A lightbulb came on for us last night, and we realized since you went home for Father’s Day weekend, we weren’t going to be able to meet you. But Great Harvest is too delicious to not make a trip back to Cville again!!
Sana says
So much bakery love!

Ugh – poor Matt! Glad he’s able to rest.
So nice of all these people to come visit – I have to get down there myself some time (especially if that tofu sandwich is still on the menu!) 😉

So fun. And I’ve been cleaning and found your old dance costumes. The Bears are having a great time. Bocker even said, “I wish we had a sister to wear this. A BIG sister.” I think he means a bear big enough to fit into them.
KathEats says
🙂
Mom says
There are feathers everywhere! (For real.) I didn’t realize you had so many costumes with feathers.
Rebecca @ How the Cookies Crumble says

I cannot wait for the chance to visit your store! I am going to be in that area later this summer, and obviously know where I am getting lunch one day 🙂

I think being busy really helps me feel more alive – and I can feel that from this post! Do you enjoy the busyness and being at the bakery more or miss your old routines more with blogging/writing, etc?
Have fun at the wedding!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Tofu & pesto sounds like a great combo, don’t know why I haven’t tried that before!
Kristen @ Change of Pace says
I was wondering about Matt… He seems to be there all the time! Hope you guys have a great weekend!
Kel@The Kel Show says
I am curious – what is the top selling sandwich (so far)? I think would have a very difficult time deciding!
KathEats says
I think the Turkey + Cheese, but the Tofu, Hummus + Tuna are all tied for second!
Meg says
Look at you miss popular 😉 haha! LOVE IT! What sweet, sweet visitors! And your shenanigans are traveling to Malaysia! SO COOL, Kath!! What a thoughtful lady she is.
🙂
Hannah says
The curried tuna reminds me of a “Curry Puff” I recently tried. Mashed potatos, chicken, and curry wrapped in puff pastry dough and lightly fried. Curry makes all meats better 🙂
Shelley says
I totally agree with Miranda, you must feel famous with so many visitors! I would love to visit when i come back to the states late next year, fingers crossed!!
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
Are those girls twins?! I’m an identical twin, so I get really excited when I see other twins 🙂
Kori says
Yes we are!! Hello fellow twinlet! =)
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
Do y’all create/design your own sandwiches in the bakery or are they great harvest recipes?
KathEats says
They are our creations!
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
That’s fantastic!!!
Christine (The Raw Project) says

That’s awesome how many readers and friends have come to visit you guys. You must feel like a celebrity. 😉
lynn @ the actor's diet says
that is one particularly pretty sandwich! i have to say that the ones i’ve gotten at GH before (okay, i’ve only had 2) aren’t the nicest looking but yours are bee-u-tee-ful.
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
That tofu sandwich looks delicious!
rumfunandsun says
So I think Great Harvest should come out with a Gluten Free bread and or dessert! I would kill for that!!!!
Christine says
Some locations do have gluten free bread (ours here has it one day a week) but cross contamination is an issue if they are making it everyday along side the other bread.
KathEats says
Ditto
Olena (The Fit Gourmet) says
There’s a pesto-tofu sandwich with caramelized onions coffered by my local vegetarian bakery and I absolutely adore the combo. I know that onions are non-grata at your GH but what about the caramelized variety? They add an amazing kick to the sandwich.
KathEats says
Sorry, caramelized is a no-go. Also, we don’t have a means to cook them
Robyn @ Blueberries and Oats says
I bet Great Harvest Bread sales have increased all over the U.S. due to yours opening. =P I know I can’t help but think of you anytime I see one!
katie @KatieDid says
You must get so excited when readers introduce themselves! I think I would be too shy if I saw you out somewhere LOL! Have a blast at the wedding!
KathEats says
If you ever do see me, please say hello!
Becca says
Yummm. I love tofu AND pesto. Recently I’ve heard something about the amount of processing in creating tofu. What is your view on that? Everything I’ve heard/seen/read points to tofu, as a soy product, being a highly nutritious food, but the processing, I guess I’ve never thought that much about it until now. What do you think?
KathEats says
Everything I’ve read about it seems to suggest it’s minimally processed
Maria @ Beautiful Busy Bee says
Mmmmm that sandwich looks good. Your photos are always so… appetizing!! 🙂
Katherine says
I swear your sandwiches always look soooo good!
Katherina @ Zephyr Runs says
Those sandwiches look (and sound) so delicious… I wish we had a GH in Florida!
Hilary says
IF I lived closer, your Great Harvest would totally be a destination for me too!!!!!!!
Hannah says
Such generous slabs of tofu! Alas, Australia to Charlottesville is slightly too long a trip for me to take for lunch…
Brittany says
It looks like it was a busy day at the the bakery. So fun!! And, your sandwich looks delicious.
Nadia says
Speaking of visitors… I had the pleasure of visiting a GH last week! I just moved halfway across the country (Canada) and travelled the U.S. route through North Dakota, Minnesota, WIsconsin and Michigan. Because of you and your store, I’ve been dying to try GH, so I looked up locations close to our route. I convinved my parents to make a slight detour to Grand Blanc, Michigan for lunch! All of the staff was extraordinarily friendly, especially the guy manning the til and sample board! I explained to him how I found the bakery and he said he would check out your blog! After ordering our lunch, he offered us all a free cookie as well! We also stocked up on some bread and coffee – the apple cinnamon loaf was amazing and I am enjoying their blueberry coffee in my new apartment! Thanks for introducing me to GH! Too bad there isn’t one closer! *Sigh* 🙂
KathEats says
Glad you had a great experience!
Hannah (tickledtofu) says
That tofu sandwich looks so incredibly delicious!
jenna k says

I don’t even really LIKE tofu and that sandwich looks amazing!
Kristen @ The Red Velvet Life says

Jun says
Malaysia? Coooool – that’s where I live! Will you ever be a teacher?
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
I was just a “tourist” (well, kinda) in Central Illinois, and had to seek out their local Great Harvest. My extended family all lives there, but no one knew about it. I HAD to introduce them! We took home a couple of loaves of bread, some blondies, dog treats and a giant cinnamon roll… as well as some jam (though it was from Arkansas). My Gram said that they blondie was the best thing she had eaten in the past year! That’s saying something.
This particular GH (Peoria, IL) had SO MUCH MERCH! It was unreal. I’m used to the CLT ones, which don’t have very much. It was interesting to see the differences in the stores. They also had tables, etc, as you do.
(I’ve been mia with traveling lately, and am just catching up on posts. I missed KERF!) 🙂
~
KathEats says
What kind of merch should we add!?!
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
They had the entire line of Naturally Nutty, and lots of jams and fruit butters… the bread boards, bread knives, and spreaders/spatulas.
But what was new to me was the cute assortment of kitchen towels and aprons that they carried… soup/sauce mixes… as well as flavored butter (herb and cinnamon flavors) made in the store, in little 8 oz plastic containers. They also had gift bags and cards (boutique-type stuff), and some mugs and teacups, etc. And, they packaged their cookies into 6-packs, as well as selling them solo (which was also new to me). (They also had the Popeye bread – which I was able to sample. I had never tried it. I don’t think CLT GH makes that?).
Like I said, it was a LOT of stuff. (But they had a lot of room – it was the biggest GH I’ve seen. Rent is probably not too high in Peoria!). They seemed to do good business though, which made me happy. My extended family are now converts!
KathEats says
Oh cool, we do lots of that!! We don’t have spatulas or aprons, but we do plan to make the butter spreads soon and we do gift bags, cards (GH CLT has those!) all the Nat Nutty’s and more. Thanks for the tips!
