One amazing thing about having Great Harvest here training us for the next few weeks? We get to see the town through their eyes! And while we’re the local hosts, we actually are sort of the guests, because dinner is on the company when we’re training!!
It’s a treat not to have to cook much during this busy time, to get to know the amazing GH staff better, AND to get to return to some of our favorite Cville restaurants! I can’t believe I’ve eaten lunch and dinner out two days in a row! It doesn’t feel like it because the food has been so fresh.
Tonight we took Tim to The Local in charming Belmont, questionably the restaurant capital of Cville.
I biked home at 5:30 and took a cold shower and put on a dress. It was nice not to eat dinner in my shorts and Danskos! I still think this dress needs a better shape!
I thought we might end up with an hour long wait, but we actually lucked out with the best seat in the house! Top corner balcony!
Earlier today I said to myself “I’ve had a few nights of alcohol in a row, better sit tonight out.” But then we got there, and, well, it’s just a missed opportunity to turn down a glass of wine at such a fun restaurant. Especially with local wines on the menu!
So I buckled and got a glass of a local favorite: Veritas Viognier.
When we found Burrata on the menu, we HAD to get it! Remember when we had it at The Local’s neighbor, Tavola, just a few weeks ago? It was incredible, and this time was just as delicious. The most amazing caprese salad in history!
For dinner I had the Blue Crab-Encrusted Grouper with Sweet Potatoes and Arugula
This was the perfect portion – and was mighty tasty!
Buttery sauce on the edges and all!
We passed on dessert. When I eat out a lot, whether I’m traveling or just in a series of celebration nights, my goal is to eat portions as I would at home. Last night and tonight have both left me satisfied but not too full. I suppose that’s the way restaurant eating should be!
Fun fun time. Tomorrow is our first staff meeting and more sandwich making! Also, 90* weather and SUN!

May I have a tour de Charlottesville when I come for orientation on July 14th? 😛
Liv @ The Salty n' Sweet says
Everything on your dinner plates are so spring-worthy! That caprese salad looks refreshing, and the cheese doesn’t look rubbery like the kind I always get.
I usually can’t control myself in restaurants, because I always think of it as a special occasion. Especially if it was being covered by the company!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
Dinner looks delicious — and it sure is nice that you don’t have to cook — I think you have enough going on!
Have you tried wearing a belt with that dress? That might give it some shape.
KathEats says
I had a belt on it and it was too hot!!! I should have worn it anyway 🙂
RhodeyGirl says
I was thinking the same- a belt.
What about popping the color? It might lengthen the shape of the dress? Also an iron (seriously) can help it have a bit more shape and firmness. Try it!
Elizabeth (LittleBrusselsSprout) says
I have a dress that is very similar to yours but in navy. I usually add a cute/colorful belt around the waist to make it fit a little closer!
Vanessa says
What a yummy looking restaurant that is! You could have stopped at the burrata and I would have been happy. Good luck with the staff meeting!!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
I LOVE burrata! If you’re ever in ATL, have dinner at La Pietra Cucina and get the burrata app there. It’s like a fluffy, cheesy glob of heaven.
Eileen says
Yep, I think a cute grosgrain belt would be just the thing for your dress!
Dinner looks wonderful! That’s the best feeling … leaving a great meal with just the right amount of fullness.
Baking 'n' Books says
Yes. I wish I knew what that felt like…oye.
One day!
Lee says
I always get into the moment and have a drink when I tell myself that I wouldn’t. Oh well!
colleen says
try putting a belt high up on your waist, pretty much right under your bust. That will definitely help to give the dress shape and it really helps to accentuate a small waist.
Katie @ Nourishing Flourishing says
Restaurants that don’t feel like eating out because the food is so fresh = the best. 🙂
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
Love the hue of your nail polish! See ya tomorroooow
Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food says
I love having guests in town for that very same reason! Plus I’m always doing activities that I might not otherwise think to do 🙂
Best wishes! 🙂
Caley says
So hard not to overindulge when I’m eating out… or when the food is “free”!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Dinner looks delicious! I’m glad you are enjoying this time. I hope you get a good night’s sleep!
Averie (LoveVeggiesandYoga) says
“Blue Crab-Encrusted Grouper with Sweet Potatoes and Arugula”–omg that looks amazing and sounds like it! The local Aruban grouper that I can get at the market here is sooo good but with blue crab even tho Im allergic to shellfish these days, oh, it sounds amazing. Love arugula too.
And viogniers. 🙂
90F and sammie making? Have fun!!
Danskos save feet and backs, too, love them 🙂
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
I love leaving restaurants not too full! It’s rare but satisfying 🙂
Katherine says
I don’t know why, but your blog always puts a smile on my face. You are beautiful BTW, with or without a form fitting dress!
KathEats says
Thanks 🙂

What a lovely restaurant! Your dinner looked delicious!
And yikes 90! We finally broke the 80’s today. I have a feeling this summer might be another hot one. 🙂
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
Your dinner sounds so fresh and delicious!
lynn @ the actor's diet says
i always wanted a shit dress like that!
Paula says
Shit dress or shirt dress? LOL!
lynn @ the actor's diet says
oh dear! i meant shirt dress!!! definitely don’t need a dress made of shit…
kris says
If you’re not a 5’6″ 115 pound sorority girl, shirt dress/shit dress–it’s pretty much the same difference.
kaila @ healthyhelper! says
So many of my favorite foods in one dinner….crab, grouper, sweet taters, tomatoes, and mozz! Sounds perfect!
Rachel says
Looks like fun! as other readers suggested a belt may help that dress but another option could be a vest. Occasionally i like to play on mens wear styles and add vests to shirts/dresses that need shape. It doesn’t have to be a mens wear style it but that would work well with the preppy polo feel it has… Maybe a black one that buttons down the front with little black sandals? play with it and see. Also even though your husband appears much taller than you we petite girls can wear their clothes too. example: one of his older button downs as a shirt dress with leggings that has been belted. I have an old french blue men’s shirt dress that i roll the sleeves up to 3/4 length and belt with a black obi belt. I get compliments all the time on it. Plus hello free clothes!
Justeen @ Blissful Baking says
90 degrees?? We could use some of that heat over here in Portland – it’s not even hitting 60!
Abby says
I love the sandals you are wearing with that dress! 🙂 Very cute!
KathEats says
Thanks!
Jil @ Big City, Lil Kitchen says
Ohh – that caprese looks so good. I love when you luck out with a great table! Somehow it makes the meal better.
Deva (Voracious Vorilee) says
I’ve been hunting for a shirt dress like that for a while – I just haven’t found one that I like. 🙂 You look fab in yours – I love the color 🙂
Chloe (South Beach Girl) says
Caprese salad is one of my favorite dishes ever! When I was in Italy my house Mom would make it for me all the time because she knew how much I enjoyed it, it was so delicious.
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I love arugula! And that appetizer looks divine. I agree that eating out at fresh places is WAY awesome, and feels like home 🙂
Robyn @ Blueberries and Oats says
Your dinner looked amazing! It’s hard to pass up a nice glass of wine on such a beautiful day IMO. ~.^ Man I need to find more “fresh’ restaurants! Or move to a place that has more of them…
Kathleen @ KatsHealthCorner says
What kind of sandwiches are you going to make this time?
Astrid says
made your salmon cakes tonight! yum!

I try to hold the same attitude when I’m eating out more than usual- gotta maintain some restraint!
Alaina says
I am loving all of these cute restaurants in your town! Definitely makes me want to get down there. 🙂
Elise says

Looks like you’re getting a cyclist tan line on your feet. Welcome to the club!

I don’t know if you watch the Office, but Dwight, one of the characters said, “Bread is the paper of food industry, you write your sandwich on it”. I thought of you and Great Harvest when I heard this. Looks like a lot of good restaurants in your area!
KathEats says
Ha! That’s awesome! I haven’t seen the latest episode yet
Sarah@The Flying ONION says
So fun! I love eating out, especially when the fare is fresh and flavorful. I want “eating out” food to taste like home, only better. 😀
Molly @ RDexposed says
I love love love eating outside with perfect summer weather!

That looks SO good! Enjoy it!

That restaurant looks great! I love restaurants where you are able to sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine or a beer. It’s so refreshing! 🙂 I really like your nail polish color! So pretty! 🙂 Good luck with your staff meeting today!
E says
I love that nail polish, too! Do you know what brand/color it is?
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I’m so jealous that you’re able to keep your eating in check when you go out to restaurants. I always leave restaurants feeling so uncomfortably full! I think I need to learn a thing or two from you. 😛
Beth @ DiningAndDishing says
Yes, with food like that – eating out is a real treat!! I love when you can enjoy a really awesome meal and feel just as healthy as though you ate something cooked at home :).
Melinda says
The dress is cute! I agree with some previous posters – add a belt and maybe a scarf. A little accessorizing/layering will give it interest and shape.
You always make me want to head back to Charlottesville and visit these amazing restaurants! We spent our honeymoon there, but it was so freezing cold that we did little besides cuddle by the fireplace at our B&B!
jenna says
i like your dress. it’s cute! it could go dressy or casual. the local looks really good!
Jess (Sweet Potato) says
Your dinner looks amazing!
Lora says
Your dress is cute . . . but with your cute figure, you should definitely check out the Senorita Dress by Athleta. You’d rock it!
Alyssa says
That restaurant looks fab!! I think I would be a dining out sucker if I lived in Cville…you have amazing self control!
Ruthless says
Definitely that dress needs something to give it shape. You’re little (and have a fab shape) and it swallows you almost entirely. If a belt is too hot I’m not sure what to suggest
