We are very excited that we will be serving Charlottesville’s local coffee roaster – Shenandoah Joe – in the bakery!! We are working with the owner, Dave, on a custom roast to be the Great Harvest Blend. He dropped by 3 samples yesterday for us to taste test.
[You know I was excited for a reason to gulp down beautiful cups of rich coffee!!]
I was coffee free for a month and think I am no longer dependent. I’m adding it back – half a cup every other day at the most. I love coffee. I think coffee is great and healthy. I just didn’t like getting headaches! Hopefully I can keep up the intermittent consumption until winter returns.
Today we slept in till 7:30 (well, Matt slept until 9!!!!!!!) and put on a pot of roast #1
One of my very favorite aromas in coffee is what I would describe as a “rich and round milk chocolate roast.” That’s the only way I know how to describe it! Matt and I don’t like burnt aromas in coffee – but there is often a deep round, smooth aroma that I love and this blend had it!
Served with an amazing bowl of carb-a-licious oats!
Whipped banana oats made with half homemade Scottish oats and half rolled, plus banana, salt, chia seeds, vanilla and milk. On top: crumbled Great Harvest Warrenton Cinnamon Scone and Lynda’s Granola. Plus TJ’s Sunflower buttah. Yummmmmmm!!
Just watched a few episodes of House Hunters. Boy are houses in Cincinnati and Atlanta cheap!!
Looks like we’re taking a bit of a break from the bakery – at least in intensity. We still might go over and do some minor things, like working on our video for GH franchising.
Happy Mother’s Day MOM!!
I hear the Bears have a little something for me too!
Have a great one!
Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food says
That coffee sound glorious! I really think I need to have coffee at least once a week because I do miss it dearly, esp with great blends like yours! 🙂
So glad you two are getting some much needed rest, you’ve earned it! 🙂
lynn @ the actor's diet says
i have been so tempted during the filming of this movie to add coffee back – just afraid of the headaches too. somehow i’m functioning on 5 hours of sleep and 12 hours of work?!?
happy mommy’s day to all the moms!
Gina @ RunningtotheKitchen says
watching house hunters in atlanta depresses me living in NY. the price differences are amazing.
Dee says
i.totally.agree.
Candace says
I’m an Atlantan, and the houses in my ZIP code certainly aren’t cheap. The outer suburbs? Sure. But if you want a proper Atlanta address, you’re paying up! And even for condo dwellers, the HOA fees are pretty steep.
Michelle (The Runner's Plate) says
I don’t like feeling depending on coffee either. I like it but don’t feel like I *need* to have it every morning.
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
Your mom looks exactly like LARBS! Or Larbs looks exactly like your mom 🙂
Milk chocolatey coffee is my favorite!
Jaime says
That is the very first thing that I thought when I saw that picture! They look exactly the same! So adorable 🙂
Dee says
Me too!
Mary Frances says

Enjoy your restful Sunday you definitely deserve it.
Khushboo says
Looks like the perfect start to a Sunday! I’m not a fan of coffee as a drink but I do live the aroma and coffee-flavoured foods!
Molly says
Oh yes…don’t deny thy love for coffee!
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
I’m always blown away by how cheap houses are in some parts of the country. I’ve always lived in northeastern cities (Philadelphia and now New York), so I guess my perception is pretty skewed. I could live in a castle in Wyoming for what I pay for my little studio here!!
jennifer (take the day off) says
I also LOVE watching House Hunters, and I happen to live in Atlanta–unfortunately, they always film the episodes OUTSIDE of Atlanta– in the suburbs where houses are a whole lot cheaper than in the city. We have been looking for a house for over a year in the city (and we finally found one!) but every time we watch house hunters “Atlanta” we get a kick out of it because the houses are not exactly in Atlanta. Moral of the story: you get a lot more for your money in the burbs…
KathEats says
I know what you mean, but there are still tons of really cute bungalows that seem to be close to the city. Are those considered the burbs too?
Candace says
I responded above, but I’ll add my two cents here, too. Yes, there are plenty of adorable bungalows to be found in Atlanta proper … but they’re in places you wouldn’t want to live. Those neighborhoods are becoming a bit more gentrified, but they’re still crime-heavy. On the other hand, I once found an adorable bungalow for sale off Peachtree Battle on one of my runs, and when I looked up the info, it was selling for $1.2 million!

MMMM coffee, I gave up caffine about a month ago at the suggestion of my fertility doctor. I miss it so much, the decaff I bought just isn’t doing it for me.
Mary Frances says
Decaf has caffeine in it too… just not as much. Maybe with the warmer weather coming around, you can just drink water, milk, juice…and get away from the hot drinks all together. Then when winter comes, maybe just an occasional hot chocolate or herbal tea.
SquatLikeALady says
Houses are super cheap here in Montana too! 😉 I just don’t want to live here for the rest of my life. Gah.
I love a good smooth roast!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
I love watching House Hunters — what a great way to spend a Sunday morning!
That coffee sounds delicious — I also can’t stand the “burnt” smell of some coffees.
Angela (Oh She Glows) says
I’m obsessed with House Hunters…especially HH International. 🙂
I am always amazed by how cheap houses are in Texas too.
Paige @Running Around Normal says
I stopped in our local GHB yesterday! I wanted the cinnamon chip, but all they had was the cinnamon crunch!
KathEats says
I bet that’s nearly the same – did you try it??
The Teenage Taste says
I don’t know why I never noticed it before, but that table has such a beautiful mosaic on it. It’s so pretty! Definitely a great background for food photography! 😀
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
I love seeing all the old school pis people are posting with their mamma’s! 🙂
The bear bread is awesome. You guys should sell those as speciality items for baby showers and whatnot!
Kat @ Cupcake Kat says
I’m just starting to like coffee. That is one delicious looking bowl of oats!
Alaina says
I know what you mean about the smell of coffee! I hate that burnt smell (uhhh..Sbux!) Haha. I love a smoooooth coffee. Of the three, which one was your favorite? Or are you sampling them one a day?
KathEats says
We just tried #1 and I loved it

Happy mother’s day to your mom!!
Elena @ GagaForGrapefruit says
that oatmeal sounds soooooo yum!
Emma (Namaste Everyday) says
yum I can’t wait to brew some good coffee again! For some reason, in New Zealand, they only use instant coffee (?) or espresso.

Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
mmm your b-fast looks awesome!
J3nn(Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Yeah, houses in Atlanta are uber cheap compared to NY! When we lived in Atlanta we could have gotten two houses for the price of one here in NY.
Ellie @ The Mommyist says
Nice to hear you and Matt are taking a day to slow down a little. That’s important.
Hannah says
And now I’m craving a bowl of coffee-flavoured oats…
