Sorry for the domain issues. I’m doing the best I can and am new to the hidden alleys of the internet! I hope to have it all sorted out this weekend. The domain is switching back to hear and KathEats.com should be active again sometime tomorrow.
Dinner tonight was great – but there were too many choices!!! Lots of good veggies, soup, and delicious looking pitas.
I’ll start with the whole spread:
A REALLY good pita that the thing said was 400 calories. I don’t believe it. I ate 60% of it. It was fabulous, but didn’t taste any different than the wheat pitas I get that are 200 calories for the whole thing. Hard to guess who is right here, but I settled for 175. I had two bites of the pasta on the side. It was bland.
Carrots:
Chili. I ate about 40% of this.
Okra and tomatoes:
Side salad with sunflower seeds, raisins, mushrooms, and broccoli.
And two bites of apple cobbler:
Total dinner calories: ~580
Off to Philly!
See you late tomorrow night.

Hey Kath,
I just wanted to update you about the review tonight at class. Basically we just went over key concepts from the beginning of the year. We reviewed carbs, enegry, BMI, BMR, digestion and absorption. It was basically just basic key issues. She just said again to study the handouts and said there will only be about 20 questions on the current material the rest of the questions will be from the previous lectures.
Have a great weekend.
Jennifer (From class)

Hi Kath! I’ve been checking out your blog ever since I discovered it on Eat Like Me and it’s great! I think you do a wonderful job on keeping up with it and living a truly healthy lifestyle. I do have a question though. I’m a college student and I consider myself pretty health conscious and mindful about what I put into my mouth- except when it comes to going out. I recently had a bad night and overdid it a little with the alcohol and the greasy food that comes with it, and can’t help feeling a little guilty. Do you think it’s ok to feel that little bit of guilt or is that on the verge of becoming ‘obsessive’? And how do you just move past it, let it go, and get back to healthy eating asap? I guess that’s two questions, but any suggestions would be very helpful! I know the best advice is to cut back on these party nights and limit myself to two drinks, and I’m working on it… kind of hard in a college atmosphere :/
Thanks!

Thanks Jennifer!!! I bet we'll both get A's without even studying 🙂 And I hope we can keep in touch when class is over – you know where to find me!
Katie,
Thanks so much for the compliments. Turn the heat on in Philly – I'm on the way!
Ruthie,
I'll get you to you when I'm back from my trip today!

Hi Ruthie,
It's taken me a long time to realize that I really get no benefit from drinking more than 2 drinks at a time. I feel horrible the next day and lose that "I'm healthy" fuzzy, good feeling. In college, I was never a HUGE drinker, but I'd say I was the average college student who had a few drinks a couple times a week. I think that definitely contributed to my weight gain in college.
One of my biggest strategies is to have a diet tonic and lime or club soda and lime. I DO believe that it's not fun to be the only one drinking – but that doesn't mean alcohol!! Have a drink, but make it something light – like the calorie-free sodas – so you can stay hydrated, avoid alcohol, but still enjoy the fun of having a drink in your hand. Most of the time I don't even miss the alcohol. Another tip is to just wait through the first round of drinks to get one, or skip getting one before dinner and just have something with dinner at the restaurant. Lots of times I would have 2 drinks simply because I was there too long, so if I just postpone getting the drink I've only gone through one by the time we're done. So instead of ordering something the second I enter the bar, I wait 30 minutes and then end up consuming less during the time I'm there. Make sense?
These days, if I do indulge in too much alcohol (which is almost always wine), I don't feel guilty as much as I do angry that I made myself feel gross and brought the discomfort on myself. I try to remember this when I'm considering a second drink and keep it to one or switch to "mocktails."
One of the best ways to get over guilt you are feeling is to exercise. I can't tell you how many times I've felt gross after I've had one-too-many and have gotten in a sweaty workout and felt 100% better. Rather than cut your calories back, go for a walk, a run or just get outside and move. You'll feel SO much better – mentally and physically.
Hope that helps!!
K
