For citrus!!!
Oranges seem like the most blah fruit to me 3/4 of the year. But my palate lightens up and CRAVES them as soon as it gets cold. I swear my body knows what time of year it is!
Today I was also craving yoga.
I unrolled my mat for a 75 minute Dave Farmar podcast. I think this was the longest home yoga I have ever done, and my mind did not wander. I was committed. The class was HARD – mostly in the lower back. Too many utkatasanas!! My lower back will be sore tomorrow for sure.
My drishti:
After yoga, ’twas showertime. The drain is WORKING!
Our attack:
- Physically removed drain and pulled out hairs n gunk with Zip-it from Lowes (didn’t really work)
- Flushed with baking soda, vinegar and hot water many a’ time (didn’t really work)
- PLUNGED (seemed to unclog something)
- Used Roebic Enzymes overnight (may have worked – not sure if plunger did most though)
Where was the best 2PM light in our house?
The swing, maybe even with a little white bounce off the back!
Ultimately I like sandwiches more than wraps (because bread tastes better) but I am enjoying these tortillas. They are huge (220 Kcals each) so they make a sizeable wrap.
Filled with cranberry mustard (from the Hickory Farms basket), POM seeds, red pepper, spinach and diced chicken from last week’s whole chicken. Lightly grilled in a skillet!
On the side: Leftover veggies + a naval orange
And for dessert – a Turkish fig!! LOVE these! I like ’em dried even more than fresh. I found these at the Whole Foods bulk bins and like these dried ones even more than the previous kind I had, which were more like prunes.
Going to make a movie now!
Bess @ Bess Be Fit says
Great pictures today (as usual!)….hope your back isn’t too sore tomorrow! But sometimes soreness is good…makes you feel like you really worked hard and did something! 🙂
grocery goddess jen says
I’m the same way about citrus, and I’ve been loving me some grapefruits lately. Usually the thought of oranges makes me shudder, it has to be the right time of year for them!
Have fun making your movie 🙂
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
Oooo that fruit looks so good!
Samantha @ Bikini Birthday says
What type of yoga was it? Power? I’m looking for a good power yoga podcast.
Kath says
Yes. Dave Farmar on iTunes
Katryn@rampantcuisine says
It’s true! I think that the body intuitively knows when certain fruits and veggies are in season! Also, cranberry mustard sounds great!
Stacy @ Every Little Thing says
That’s so funny – I have always associated citrus with warm weather. I don’t crave it at all in cold weather! That orange looks tasty though, might have to grab a couple.
We get great “afternoon light” in our kitchen, through the blinds. It almost seems like the blinds make it a bit more noticeable.
Amanda (Eating Up) says
I miss oranges! My stomach can’t handle citrus 🙁
Alina @ Duty Free Foodie says
I’ve been craving citrus all the time recently too. I think it may be because we are exposed to so many viruses in the winter, our bodies want the Vitamin C to help fight them off.
Allie says
I know what you mean about your body really knowing what season it is! In the winter I always want an orange or some pineapple but any other time it’s a second choice under apples or watermelon :p
Holly @ couchpotatoathlete says
What kind of tortillas are those? Sorry if I missed it somewhere. I can never get wraps to look that “grilled” in a skillet. I either burn them or it just doesn’t work 🙂 I need to use my George Foreman.
Kath says
The brand is in last night’s dinner post!
Kristy@ KristyRuns.com says
The lighting in your photos is gorgeous! 🙂
Melissa @ HerGreenLife says
Oranges ARE blah 3/4 of the year — when they’re not in season. December – February is more or less the peak for U.S. grown citrus.
These days, I mostly eat locally grown fruit (which tends to naturally mean less fruit in winter, more in summer), but I do make an exception for some good citrus in the winter months!
Kath says
Good point!! That’s probably why my body likes seasonal food – it really DOES taste better.
Jill says
I have to agree seasonal is always better!!
Jill says
Would you recommend your yoga mat for others? I have one that I use for outside, I’m to lazy to wash it every time–so I need a good inside one.
Kath says
Absolutely! I love it.
Dorry says
I love figs, too! Grew up eating fig newtons and can’t get enough. I also love oranges but don’t eat them as often as I’d like because they get messy on-the-go. It’s a treat when I buy the already peeled ones from Whole Foods.
Christin@purplebirdblog says
Are the yoga downloads easy to follow if you’re fairly new to yoga (I’ve only really been practicing since the summer)? Or do you have to have a really good grasp on the pose names and what they entail?
Kath says
Yogadownload.com one are very easy to follow because they are designed for audio yoga and they have pose guides you can reference either before or during the practice if you need help with a pose. Dave Farmar’s podcasts are just recordings of his live classes so they are not really suitable for beginners who don’t know the poses or their names very well. I’d start with the 20 minute ones from Yogadownload!
Amy says
Yes, and yogadownload.com also has video classes which are great. The 20-minute ones are free. I just did yoga for strength this morning! 🙂
Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says
I love dried figs SO much. Seriously… I stock up. They make great pre workout fuel!
Emily says
That cranberry mustard with avocado is one of my favorite flavor combos!
Lisa (bakebikeblog) says
oh that fig looks tasty!
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
Oooh, yes!! I had my first orange of the winter season a few days ago…it hit the spot! I think our bodies definitely know and crave what’s in season!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
I agree with you on the bread vs. tortilla! I love a good chewy bread over a thin tortilla any day! Enjoy the movie!
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
Funny- I normally feel the same way about citrus fruits, but craved clementines this afternoon as well!! They remind me of Christmas 🙂 Hope you have a wonderful afternoon!!
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
Gorgeous lunch pics! I always crave citrus in the winter too 🙂

Allison @ PickyEatingRD says
AHHH i don’t think I have ever had a Turkish Fig.. Going to have to put that one on my “to-eat” list!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
I 100% agree on the sandwiches over wraps thing – bread is just so much more filling! Having said that though, your wrap looks so bright and delicious. Love it!
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
i love those wraps too. they are HUGE!
“Picture’s Up!”
Toni says
Not a huge fan of dried figs. I find them way too sticky! However, I make an awesome stuffed pastry with dried figs, chocolate and walnuts – then I’ll eat em!
Katie @ Shared Bites says
What a healthy looking lunch (and the sunshine certainly doens’t hurt)! Inspires me to make my lunch for work more often.
Heather (Heather's Dish) says

I love citrus fruits at this time of the year. I had a grapefruit the other day, and it was awesome!
Camille says
That wrap looks really good! By the looks of your food and the sunshine, it seems like it isn’t too chilly over there!
Ashley says
Oh my gosh…you just got me SO excited for Satsumas!!! Can’t wait til they’re back!!!!!!! 🙂
Dana @ my little celebration says
Can’t wait to hear more about your movie! I always enjoy your videos…
Julie @ Honey B. Nutrition says
I find it so refreshing to eat with the seasons – of course it’s better for you since you can’t really eat out-of-season produce unless you are eating non-local non-organic. My body naturally craves what’s in season too. I always wonder if it’s because I feed myself that so it gets used to certain food at certain times, or my brain just associates certain food with certain holidays or weather or… who knows. Chicken or the egg? Well I’m stickin to it regardless.
I love the swing. So amazing to be able to eat outside at this time of year!
Clare says
dave Farmar is the HARDEST. My advice would be to tuck your tail a little in your utkatasana. Takes the load off the low back!
Felicity says
I bought figs and oranges yesterday. I hope clementines are good this year, they were awesome last year!
Laura (Starloz) says
i love that your body craves oranges, mine does too.
your swing is adorable
Kiran says
Very nice clicks! Can’t wait for your movie 😉
Heather @ Get Healthy With Heather says
You’ve got sun light? Nice! I like how you found light on your swing.
Figs are such a yummy treat. Tried figs definitely take on a candy sweetness. So good.
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
I love wraps! They’re so chewy and forgiving with an overabundance of stuffing. 😀 Yours looks awesome!
Melissa @ I Never Imagined says
A movie!! *Squeeeeee!!!*
Faith @ lovelyascharged says
My mum is luring me home with the promise of as many fresh oranges as I can carry back with me! Bahaha 🙂
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I way prefer bread to wraps too! Even if they contain the same number of calories, I just find the bread to me more filling and satisfying.
Lauren says
It never even occurs to me to make a wrap, but I’m feeling inspired now. My lunches need some revamping.
Hannah says
I love how inventive you are with fruit! Pomegranate in a wrap – brilliant!
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
I’ve been lovin’ wraps lately, but only if they are fluffy! No skinny wraps for me. 😉
Amy at TheSceneFromMe says
I’ve never tried a fig before, but it’s about time I do! You are making me think of how delicious they must taste!
rebecca lustig says
those bins get me eVERY TIME. i just can’t say no.
notyet100 says
wow u have a swing too
Keri says
Two things:
One! Thank you for inspiring me to embrace citrus again–tis the season-you are right!
Second: If your low back hurts after Utkatasana, try tucking the pelvis slightly forward (instead of arching through the low back, try to flatten it) and really engage your lower core muscles. We learned this adjustment in teacher training, and it made my low back much happier! 🙂
Anne@MyZenPulse says
Hm… those shouldn’t make your back too sore! Try tucking your tailbone under when you’re in utkatasana and dropping the weight back toward your heels. Should take the pressure off your low back. Bend your knees just a hair in utasana as well to release your lumbar spine. Hopefully that helps!
Shannon @ Philadelphia Phitness Pharmacy says
The wrap looks so fresh and delicious! You are so creative I would never have thought to put those ingredients all together!
Kath says
Thanks for the yoga tips 🙂
Elise says
you inspired me to try a dave farmar yoga podcast. and he definitely kicked my butt!!
Nelle @ Living Cliche says
My Grandma always gave us oranges for Christmas, so I can identify with craving them this time of year. And as it gets chilly, I feel like your body knows it needs the extra vitamin C to keep your immune system up!
Caitlyn (A Spoonful of Life) says
I feel the same way about oranges. I think I’ve eaten 5 over the past 3 days!
Roseanna says
Reading this entry helped me get over my aversion to using the plunger on our shower drain, and so I did, and it completely fixed the clogged drain. So thanks.
