My gosh, the time has flown this morning! I woke up naturally at 5:45 (I set my alarm for 6!) and came down to check email and get started on my paper. I had a cup of a new Good Earth tea that I like:
I am pleased to report that the paper is complete!!! Well, the first draft at least. The works cited tool me hours. Uggg. And I need to proofread the whole thing at some point.
And I had a visitor early this morning (it’s a huge wasp) that I quickly covered until the husband could come take him away. (What’s even weirder is that I snapped a photo to show you all 😳 )
Around 7:30 we made trail mix oatmeal. I used a little less trail mix today in exchange for some peanut butter 🙂
With our new Fresh Market Spring Blend coffee! It’s got hints of butterscotch and caramel!
This breakfast was about 460 kcal, 10 grams of fiber and 20 grams protein.
We’re off to go on a run as soon as I thaw out enough to move my muscles without breaking anything. It’s freezing in here today!!! SPRING where are you!?!
Sarah says
I love your new profile pic, Kath! 🙂
Your breakfast looks so delicious…perfect for a cool morning. It’s cold here too. 20 degrees and *windy*…ick…
I don’t think the weather received the memo that it’s supposed to be spring yet…
Rachel says
I also bought some of the Fresh Market spring blend. It’s yummy!
I really like vanilla chai tea, but I haven’t seen it anywhere in decaf. Now I have to look for it.
Rachel
Tina says
Mmmm… butterscotch and caramel. I bet I would love that coffee!
Beth says
Hey guys! So my stomach is usually relatively flat in the morning when I wake up, but as the day progresses and I drink liquids my stomach bloats out quite a bit. Any ideas why? Is this normal?
p.s. Kath, bugs are the reason I don’t want to live in the south!
Romina says
Congratulations on finishing your paper!!

Trapping the wasp like that takes some skill!
I’ve got my baked oatmeal in the oven now…it smells sooo good! Very cinnamony, however. I decided to add some cinnamon and accidentally twisted the cap off (instead of popping it open so the little holes are there) and DUMPED it in instead of sprinkling. Whoops! I tried to get some out, but there’s still a LOT in there. It’s pretty brown due to all the cinnamon! Oh well, I like cinnamon, so it should be okay 🙂
Ally says
That coffee sounds great! I bought ‘Cinnabon’ coffee last week. It doesn’t taste anything like a cinnabon but it’s comforting to drink so i don’t mind.
What is up with the weather here?? It looks warm out but I guess that beautiful blue sky is just playing tricks on us.
Enjoy your run!

one time my friend jake and I caught a spider in a glass in my appartment. We put it in the microwave to see what would happen and it freaked out and then exploded. I started crying and he was about to and then we had that weird, ackward feeling in the air for a while. Like when you see a bad car accident. There’s just nothing to talk about after that.
I like flavored coffee better than adding flavor into my coffee (like creamer or whatnot.) I like subtelty. But only wth my food.
Cara says
I am thinking warm weather thoughts for you.
I would die if I found a wasp in the house. I am terrified!
Katie says
So jealous you are going to run. I got home from a long meeting last night and was DYING to run but it was too late for it. Have a good run. That yummy breakfast will surely keep you moving!
Elizabeth says
Spring is certainly not here in Wisconsin either, Kath! ANOTHER winter storm is pounding down on us right now. 8 or more inches of snow expected today. BOOOOOOO.
Have a great day! 🙂
arimcg says
It is so windy and miserable here, I can’t wait for some warm weather. I think I might have to try that tea – I bought the good earth sweet and spicy but it’s a little too sweet or something…I don’t really like it.
Rae says
lol…Kath, I am JEALOUS of the “cold” weather in North Carolina! I just did a run in 19 degree weather in NY….whatever your cold is, I’m jealous 😉 Have a good run!!
Amandamoo says
Oh my gosh! The spider in the microwave story is going to have me contemplating my existence for the rest of the day… I hope you’re happy.
I think I just cried a little…
Weird… I hate spiders…
Caroline says
Hi Kath–I just have a real quick question. It always looks so good when you put trail mix in your oatmeal. What nuts/seeds/fruits are in the mix? What brand is it? I want to give it a try!
PS I love the bowl you used today!! Is that one of the ones from your grandmother?
BC says
I consider myself lucky as it was 80 yesterday here in Austin 🙂 I cannot imagine snow in late March!
LT says
KELLY T!!!!!!! that’s HORRIBLE!! BUT REALLY FUNNY IN A SICK WAY!!
BC i’m from Austin! Not much longer before it’s sickeningly hot & humid! I’m savoring every minute of this wonderful weather!
Tina says
We registered for the same glasses! Crate and Barrel, right?
Ange C. says
Happy Good Friday to all!
Kath–i had time this morning to cook your oatmeal the kath way….and the PB on the spoon made it heavenly. I felt like I was eating dessert for breakfast. Thanks for helping me switch up the breakfast routine!
Natalie says
Wow you captured a wasp? You’re my hero. Me and bugs = 🙁
Caryee says
Hey Kath and everyone!!
To all you ladies out there who loove scoping out MENUS/NUTRITIONAL FACTS before going to dinner, I’m requesting your help…
Saturday night, my girlfriends and I are eating at CHEVY’S FRESH MEX. Here’s the menu link: http://www.chevys.com
I like Mexican food, but I don’t quite feel like indulging this weekend. I like fish, guacamole, and can handle spice! 😉 Should I get a salad?? Steamed fish?? Veggie burrito?? I have no idea!!!
I’m a little nervous about the calories with the cheese and oil and such….what would you ladies suggest????(Oh, and I don’t drink, so no worries about the margarita cals..hahah)
hk says
BC- Austin? Me too!!
yum to the oatmeal, I missed my bowl this morning due to having to rush off to class…I’m just going to have to make a stellar bowl tomorrow to make up for it!
awesome job on the paper…that’s what I’m headed to do in the near future…BOO
Erica says
mmm, your trail mix oats look delicious Kath! And I love that bowl too! 🙂
Korin says
Kelly T,
You need to seek help if microwaving animals is what you and your friends do for fun. It doesn’t matter how small, that action shows you have a very callous, cold nature about you that you would purposely hurt any living thing in that regard. Seek help for this.
Personal note, you make me sick.
Sarah says
Caryee—oh…yum! The menu there looks so tasty! 😀 I think everything sounds good…if you’re watching the calorie count, its easy to bring it a lot lower by asking for either no cheese or cheese on the side. You could ask for the guacamole on the side, and eat half the portion instead of the whole thing. OR, you could order what strikes your fancy at the moment and take 1/2 the portion home for the next day. 🙂
And they have a la carte? Thats so cool! I wish my local mexican restaurant had that. What a great way to build up a nice healthy burrito…a nice soft wrap, rice and beans, and a little bit of guacamole? Now I’m craving mexican food…haha…
Whatever you end up ordering, have fun!! 🙂
Courtney S says
Kath, I made your baked oatmeal this morning and my boyfriend and I loved it. I replaced the banana with apples and added cinnamon and nutmeg…wow! I’m already looking forward to the leftovers tomorrow.
It’s so windy here in Boston that I’d probably end up in the river if I tried running outside! Gym it is. I can’t wait for real spring to arrive.
Amanda says
What kind of trail mix is that? It’s looks yummy.
lisam says
Hi Kath! I have been reading your blog for quite a while but I have never posted. Anyways, I am also a college student, and I am studying public health with an emphasis in nutritional science.
I TOTALLY understand about works cited! There is a website called easybib.com that I have been using for years to help with the formation of works ciited papers. No teacher or prof. has ever said anything about it either, so no need to worry about it being legit. You can even choose MLA, APA, or Chicago style. Hope that helps!
Lisa
Caitlin says
Jeez Korin, chill!
Elina says
Courtney S, I’m from Boston too!
Caryee, I found this website with nutritional facts on some of Chevy’s foods. Hope it helps!

. . . Just so long as the wasp wasn’t part of your breakfast ;).
kim says
Elina and Courtney, I’m also from MA/boston area. 🙂 that chai looks nice! haven’t tried good earth. I still have a big batch of the Tazo chai I’m working through. I actually got some loose chocolate tea/makes the whole house smell like a cadbury bar.
Kiala says
Spiders are not animals. They are pure EVIL.
And anyway, I’m pretty sure Kelly was using the term “spider” as a euphamism for “uptight people on the internet”.
It’s an allegory. A fable. Delightful!
Tina says
Kim, Elina, and Courney– I am in Boston too! Where do you guys live?
Kath says
Beth,
My stomach does the same thing (and is biggest when I go to bed at night!) I think it’s just a natural response to lots of good food 🙂
Ally,
It was so cold this morning but gorgeous out now – tomorrow even nicer and 47 on Monday 🙁 THat’s NC for ya!
Kelly T ,
Oh my. Poor spider! I have a hard time killing ants. They used to get over soda cans we left out in my parents’ house when I was young and I’d give them 5 minutes to evacuate before I’d rinse out the can – just to give them a fair chance for escape. And yes, I would tell them outloud 🙂
arimcg ,
I think the Good Earth S+S is too something too. I’m not a huge fan. Every now and then I like it.
Tina,
Those are old school Linens and Things, but I think C&B has the same ones. LOVE that store!
Ange C.,
So glad you liked the PB on a spoon method!
Caryee ,
That menu looks SO good!! I’d get a cup of the tortilla soup to fill me up (fried strips on the side and just have a few) and maybe the portabello burrito and eat the inside and some of the tortilla (I do weird things with sandwiches – I like bread alone!). Or maybe one of the fajitas but ask for it without butter sauce?
Courtney ,
Glad to hear it’s good with apple (not that I would think otherwise 😉 )!
Amanda ,
Bear Naked High Sierra.
lisam ,
Thanks for the bibliography link! My problem is knowing what type of source it is to begin with (how do I know if I found it online if there’s also a print version!?) But I think I got them all at least 90% right in my paper.
Bostonians,
I’ll be visiting late this summer to visit my sister when she moves up for grad school!
Kath

Hey Kath. If your sis is going to Northeastern U., I’m an alumnus. She’ll love it! Great gym at the Marino center too/you might want to check it out.
Kath says
Kim,
She’s either going there or Tufts – depending on if she gets into Tufts and then makes a decision! I’ll let you know what she decides 🙂
Kath
Tina says
I had lunch at the Qdoba at Northeastern today! 🙂
Mom says
Katherine, The descendants of the ants you rescued are all coming back into the kitchen this week. They want to send you a big shout out for saving their great- great- great- grandparents!
Caryee says
Sarah, Elina, and Kath- thanks sooo much for the suggestions! That definitely helps to calm my nerves before a dinner night out with the girlfriends. I will enjoy my Mex food without guilt AND enjoy the company too! 🙂
Kath says
Mom,
Have they been in your cereal lately!? At least they are not ROACHES!
K
Chelsea says
Your Mom just made me LOL at work. That was hilarious 😉
babycakes says
Kath, I’m getting my Masters (in advanced practice nursing to become a neonatal nurse practitioner) at Simmons, which is right next to Northeastern. It would be so good to have you visit! While I love Boston with all my heart (born and raised here – but absolutely no accent!) I HATE the cold. I think I’m going to move somewhere much warmer once I complete my Masters program – perhaps Arizona? Anyway, it was freeeezing and very windy here today. The first day of Spring felt more like the first day of winter 🙁
Kath says
Babycakes,
I will be sure to let you guys know if I’m headed to Boston. I want to meet at the best healthy restaurant in town! I lived in Arizona for 2 months when I was younger and it was fabulous. I LOVE the place. San Diego is tied though. I’d love to live in both places, but I’m not sure I could leave NC. I love it here too!
Kath
Lindsay says
lol – kath, i do the same thing w/ bugs, i can’t squish them so i just cover them w/ cups until someone can come and take care of it!
Susa says
Good Earth teas rock!
I love the super-antioxidant green tea (or something like that)….and the Vanilla green tea….and the red teas… :O)
And yes, in Germany where there’s a lot more “house spiders” I’d always trap them like that too-until some brave soul would come around and take the spider outside *brrr*.
