I think the baby knows we jumped forward an hour because I was up at 6…or 7? And couldn’t go back to sleep.
After an hour of lying in bed, reading blogs, emails and baby apps, I got up to make a family pot of oatmeal, “gently whipped”
And a steaming carafe of French press – half caf, half decaf.
Oats went into a jar!
I made the oats with Holly’s Oatmeal, banana, half milk/water, chia seeds, pinch salt and cottage cheese stirred in at end. Since I was using a plastic jar, I let the whole pot cool for about 5 minutes to warm instead of hot and then portioned them in.
Some honey bunches on top and plenty of wild squirrel curious coconut on the bottom.
1.5 of these woke me up along with a fabulous new episode of House Hunters set in renovated homes in LA.
I am having a SERIOUS hormonal spring cleaning craving. I not only want to clean every square inch of this house, but I want to decorate, rearrange, declutter, sort, package and donate. This happens to me every spring [Home Neat Home went crazy last year!] and I’m excited when the urge hits!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
I wish the urge would hit me! I’ve been putting off cleaning the floors for days… maybe today… or maybe not… 🙂
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
If you want to come have that cleaning/de-cluttering/organizing urge at my apartment, I’d really appreciate it! 😉
Joss says
yummm the gently whipped oats look great 😀
Kerry @ Totes My Oats says
I need to get the urge! Off to make breakfast/coffee… maybe it will give me some of that energy 🙂
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Can you come to my house after yours? 😉 I’m actually sitting on the couch right now looking at the sun hit a chair and highlighting all the dust on it. It’s seriously making me not enjoy my cup of coffee b/c I just want to get up and dust it!
Linds @ Linds Eats says
Haha, so funny that you said that. I woke up this morning way earlier than I usually would to and had an intense craving to start cleaning. So up I got and cleaned the kitchen from floor to ceiling. Feeling accomplished already!
Lauren says
Your pot looks delicious! Made a “meal of oats” as my toddler calls them for the family this morning including the bonus of oatmeal stuck on the tip of Bean’s chin. LOVE it! Hope I can get motivated to get some Spring Cleaning done. Have a fantastic day!!!!!!!!
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
i may have said this before, but i absolutely love that coffee mug! the colors + the design is totally something i’d go after.
katie @KatieDid says
I wish I could feel that same urge right now haha! Trying to ride off your motivation but its not working haha.
Lindsey @ Lindsey Living says
YUM, that looks good. I’ve been thinking about a french press and that one’s so pretty! I love green:) What do you think of it vs. a regular coffee maker? Any more difficult to deal with in the morning?
KathEats says
If you make coffee every morning, I’d go with a coffee maker. We have one we love, but I only make coffee once a week or so so I leave it tucked away. But the french press is more of a pain to make and clean, so I prefer a hands-free coffeemaker.
Emily @LivingLongfellow says
Good morning Kath, You got me thinking about whipping out our french press and drinking coffee on the back deck. Tempted. yesterday it was someone writing about cold pressed coffees outside, and today it’s the french press. I think these items symbolize Spring or something.
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
i am having the same cleaning urge and that is extremely rare for me! i think it’s the sunny day and warm breeze. let’s see if i can actually buckle down and do it 🙂
Kavi @ Lab to Fab! says
I woke up early today as well! But I still need to have some coffee 😉
Antonia @ healthinspirations says
It’s funny that when spring rolls around I also always feel the need to declutter. I usually can’t get rid of anything (especially not my clothes) but last week I felt the urge to give away 2(!) boxes of clothes and household goods to charity. Definitely felt good afterwards 🙂
Arispa says
May I just say that your child is going to be so well fed. Maybe I’m a little jealous.
Kate @ get up and flow says
I hear you with the urge to clean. Spring is the time to do it — before the weather gets too nice to stay inside sweeping and mopping!
Aylin @ Glow Kitchen says
I would eat the curious cocoa nut as if it were cereal itself.
Allie@LiveLaughEat says
Please come bring your spring cleaning urge up here. I need some serious de-cluttering help.
Kelly @ Vegolosophy says
Those whipped oats look super good! You always have the most fluffy oats, I definitely need to try some stove-top oats! Enjoy your sunday 🙂
Lydia says
Feeling the spring cleaning urge here too. 🙂
My daughter, Maddie, loves the overnight oats that I have been making her. Is it ok if I post about it and link back to you?
Lydia 🙂

Yay for Oats in a jar! You’ve made my morning breakfast decision so hard lol I’m deciding between pancakes or oatmeal.
Have a wonderful sunday! 🙂
Michelle @ Esculent Dreams says
your french press is adorable!! can i ask where you got it from? it’ll make the perfect bday present for my sister!
KathEats says
Amazon!
Michelle @ Esculent Dreams says
Ah! Perfect! 🙂 Thank youu
Stacy @ Say It With Sprinkles says
I’m starting to get that itch to clean & rearrange, too! Funny how we’re so programmed to want to do that in the springtime and not so much any other season, haha! =) I’ll definitely go with it while the motivation to do so is there!
Caitlin Zellers says
Have you tried Farm to Table oatmeal? I bought it on Open Sky and it is fabulous! I love the ancient grains one but the ultimate organic oatmeal is great too. It is a mix of steel cut with sliced almonds and other yummys. I think you would really like it. Oh, and the coconut wild squirrel is one of my absolute favs!
KathEats says
I haven’t! I will look for it!
Angel7 says
I need to spring clean as well! I cannot wait until it is warm enough to open all the windows!
A walk is on the agenda today, since it is going to be in the 60’s–YAY!!!

love your addition of “gently whipped” this morning!
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
I wish I could get bitten by the spring cleaning bug. I hate cleaning 🙁
Becca says
Love the matching kettle and French Press. Just bought a bright reddish/orange kettle myself. Yeah for bright, happy kettles!
Khushboo says
Pass on some of that cleaning energy this way please!!
J3nn(Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
I think you’re nesting, Kath!
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
Maybe it’s also the “nesting” urge!
megan says
Kath, I was wondering what your thoughts are about caffeine during pregnancy. I’ve gotta admit, the thought of giving up coffee is one of the least attractive aspects of pregnancy to me!
JessicaE says
I’m not Kath, but especially if you have no history of miscarriages, doctors say up to 250 mg of caffeine is usually safe, especially after the first trimester. I have had one cup of coffee a day for nearly my entire pregnancy. And when I was nauseous in the first trimester, a fizzy coca cola helped so much 🙂
KathEats says
I have little bits of caffeine here and there, but since decaf is so easily replaced, I’ve just been using that. But I’ve had a few mugs of regular throughout and agree with Jessica that 1 cup a day is said to be OK
Klar says
I am pregnant and I just cut it down to about 3/4 of a tumbler per day. If I can get 250 mg, I’m taking them!
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
Perfect looking breakfast and way to make good use of the last bits of chocolate nut butter…YUM!
Kristen @ Change of Pace says
I cleaned my whole house today from top to bottom. I’ve definitely got the spring cleaning bug.
callie says
I’ve hit the spring cleaning phase – but, I haven’t hit the point where I freak out and actually do it! ha… Need to work more on the actual ‘doing’ and less of the ‘thinking’!
Erin Motz says
That coffee… It always looks so thick! Mine only looks like that when I add steamed milk, and even then it’s thicker but not syrupy like yours. I’m having serious coffee envy right now, haha. Enjoy your Sunday!
KathEats says
I brew it strong 🙂
Jeannie says
I hope you do some spring cleaning posts. Home Neat Home are my Dave posts. So much inspiration.
KathEats says
🙂
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
Hahaha, that makes me laugh thinking of Matt’s video. Lightly stirred oats.
Elisabeth says
Well, I’m not pregnant, but I’m definitely craving some Spring Cleaning myself. I’ll have to do a little looking over your home neat home again 🙂
Paige @ Healthy Hits the Spot says
I LOVE that urge! In fact, I seriously thing you may have just sprung it upon me 😉 I loveeee when things feel FRESH!
Do you like that french press from Ikea? I am moving out soon and would like to get one 🙂
KathEats says
It’s not IKEA – it’s Bodum. But I like it!
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
I have one of those pots. Need to drag it out and use it!
