This face đ . This was the face I got the whole drive home from Bald Head. Pouty McPouters. (The only thing that saved me was the fact that he knew he was going to California to visit KK the next day!)
So we had popsicles (really just Siggi’s kids yogurt tubes frozen – the best trick ever!) and he was all smiles again. I covered him in hugs and kisses before he set off on his next summer adventure!
This song. It was on my Spotify Discover Weekly (shout out to Spotify!!), and I ran down the stairs to find out more. It’s actually a religious song, and is one of the top Christian hits of all time. I’m not religious, but I interpret the the lyrics as romantic love.
This sandwich. I rarely eat sandwiches anymore, but I made this for the ride home from the beach. Mustard, turkey, cheese and pickle. (It wouldn’t be nearly as good without the pickle!)
Next, this cake. Hillary had leftovers from her wedding and brought some over for Survivor night!! Boy, was that an exciting Tuesday!
This nut butter! The Wild Friends girls sent me the new addition to their line-up. They’ve added protein to a few of their nut butter flavors for an additional boost. These guys contain 50% more protein than traditional peanut and almond butter, for those of you looking to get more protein in your meals and snacks – each 2 tbsp serving has 12 grams of protein. Wild Friends uses high-quality, hormone free, non-GMO whey protein with a simple ingredient list, and you can find the new flavors at 450 Target stores across the country. Check out their store locator to see if you can buy it near you.
This rice bowl from our new juice bar in town, The Juice Place. I loved the seaweed, hearty shiitakes, and savory tahini sauce!
This spinach. It’s ready for pickin’!!!
This dinner. Proof that I do eat cereal for dinner from time to time. (Like when I came home from soccer at 9:00 p.m. and had no energy or desire to spend any time cooking!)
This dinner. Proof that yes, I do still cook đ Organic butcher herby chicken, cheesy grits from the rice cooker, and wilted garlicky spinach from the garden.
This mess. It’s not throw-up, just oatmeal for breakfast!!
This local news. If you live near Cville, you’ll want to bid on one of these auction listings from the Charlottesville 29! All proceeds go to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, plus you’ll have the chance to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The auction items are rolling out once a day for 30 days. Check them out!
And lastly, this parade of pancakes. I made a huge batch and M and I ate them for days!!
Have a great summertime weekend!

I love the yogurt popsicle trick! It’s genius! It’s always sad when a great vacation comes to an end, but that’s how you know you had the best time. It sure looks like you guys had a blast. And that spinach looks so nice–I need to work on my green thumb a bit đ Have a great weekend!
Lisa Valinsky says
Aww. Mazen is so cute! When I was a kid I used to cry when we left vacations. :/
Wild Friends is delish! I think I ate through a jar of their chocolate coconut peanut butter in a week, and most of that was eaten straight off the spoon. So good!
Have a great weekend, Kath!

I was wondering if you could share an update on how Karen is doing. The last I remember hearing was her cancer had returned.
KathEats says
She is doing well but is not in remission. They are working to figure out some treatment options.
Lindsey says
Hey Kath! Gardening question: Do you do anything in terms of pesticides? To that end, how do you protect your greens from the bunnies?! The deer and rabbits always got to our garden before we could.
KathEats says
I don’t – I’ve been lucky!
Mandy says
The deer and rabbits here won’t go near our garden if we have marigolds planted around the perimeter, no matter how yummy all the other garden contents are! Most animals hate the scent, apparently. Marigolds may attract slugs (yuck), but those are much easier to fend off than deer and rabbits in my experience! Good luck!
Em says
Can you tell me where you got Mazen’s sunglasses? I want a pair for my little one!
KathEats says
They are Julbo!!
Shel@PeachyPalate says
Pickles are such a vital component in a sandwich or more importantly on a burger! Love adding them to a sardine or tuna salad as well finely diced!

Do you eat leftover pancakes cold or reheat them somehow? I put mine in the toaster. đ
KathEats says

I need to get protein plus almond butter!

Mazen is so adorable! Looks like his summer is off to a fun start. I hope Karen is doing well.

Oceans is a powerful song that can move me to tears! I was fortunate to hear it sung live at a Hillsong concert a couple years ago, and it was absolutely beautiful. I have trouble thinking of it in a romantic light, though…I just don’t think that any partner has the capability of the perfect love and sovereign guidance this song is referring to. I have personally experienced this love through my faith, and wish you could experience it, too. There is so much more, and deep peace and joy!
Cindy says
Such a beautiful statement Michelle! Love the song too đ It’s wildly popular (and for good reason) here in the UK at our church. (We are US military stationed overseas). God bless you and you too Kath!
Angelic says
Beautifully written!
I can’t imagine living this life unable to recognize that I was created with love. That there is more than this short life we have to live. If there is no creator, God, then what is our purpose? What are we here for?
Liz says
Love that song! We sing it at church all the time đ
K says
We just experienced the same toddler sad face when we left the lake đ
The coverup in the last photo- very cute color, where is it from? Thanks
KathEats says
A swim dress I got super on sale from Athleta
K says
Thanks!
Alison @ Daily Moves and Grooves says
Oceans is my favorite song of ALL TIME. And I have Mazen’s face whenever I leave vacations too đ
Happy weekend, Kath!
Amber says
I love Oceans, definitely my favorite Christian song! I always listen to it when I am feeling anxious or stressed and it always seems to calm me down and refocus on what is really important. Loved this post!
polly says
Oceans is the best song. Abbi’s favorite of all time. So excited you posted it, so many others can hear it too!
Mazen’s face is still adorable pouty or not. đ
Hope he had fun with KK. She is sure a loved little dude!
XOXO
polly says
HE is sure a loved little dude. haha my typo
I also am glad KK is doing well, I know she has had a rough time. I am sure Mazen is a spoonful of sugar to her!
Amanda says
OohâŚhow do you do cheesy grits in the rice cooker!?
KathEats says
2:1 water to stone-ground grits on the porridge setting! Add butter, salt and cheese when they’re ready.
Renee says
Kath where is your swim dress cover up from? We are living at the pool these days with Eli and I have no cover up that I like. This looks great
KathEats says
Athleta!! Got it on sale đ

I also love “Oceans.” I play guitar and sing on one of the worship teams at my church and I love when we do this song. Hillsong is one of my favorite Christian bands. Vacations can be so much fun. I’m looking forward to ours later this summer. For now we are doing cool things around our area. Every summer we make a list with our son, who is 12 now, of all the things we want to do over the summer. We just checked watching “Finding Dory” off the list. What a super cute movie!!
