Hey-o! If you caught the coastal breezes on social media, you might know that we spent a good part of last week on Bald Head Island – on the marsh! We’ve been going to the island since the early 90s and have always had a family dream of having a house there. Our dreams were realized this summer when my parents bought a house there!
The house had been rented all summer and early fall, so we hadn’t had a chance to see the new house in person yet. My parents toured it while they were on the island last spring, but my sister and I hadn’t been inside yet. It was kind of strange buying a furnished house with decor and full closets and not really knowing what you own until you start to poke around.
The house is an HGTV dream in that it has great bones, wonderful views, a perfect location, and decent interior finishes, but the decor is all out of date. We spent the trip decluttering, putting on new bedding, and making a list of minor improvements, such as swapping out lamps and getting new doormats.
The best feature? The beautiful screened in porch that spans the back of the house!
Here’s the new bedding we got for the room I stayed in. This one is from The Company Store. It makes such a difference!
Aside from working on the house, we had lots of down time!
I actually didn’t tell Mazen we were coming until I picked him up from school and said “Your suitcase is packed! Guess where we’re going!?” He loved the surprise.
(But first there was a pit stop at Grammie’s house!)
Mazey and I spent 7 hours driving and we were SO happy to get there.
The next morning we went to the Maritime Market for coffee and breakfast. This biscuit was the bomb! (Do you guys still say that? Because I do!)
The weather was perfect during our whole visit and we did lots of walking!
One of the items we discovered came with the house was this great Razor scooter! We went to the hardware store for a kids helmet so M could sail away.
We did a little shopping too!
Piecemealed lunch of eggs and salad.
Miss Emmie is walking! Just a little, but it’s so cute.
Dad just came home from a hiking trek in Nepal and has a full beard! How many days till Christmas, Mr. Claus?!
We had meatloaf and roasted sweet potatoes and green beans for dinner on our first night.
We will be renting the house, and it would be so cool if one of you stayed there! We’re currently brainstorming names. I’m set on a pun, but we haven’t found one we love yet. Here are some of the top runners. We would love your suggestions!

That biscuit does look BOMB. Heck add a diggity at the end too. LOL Love that your dad is rockin a beard from his trek! I wonder how long he’ll keep it, Younger at Heart sounds like some place I’d like to stay.

Younger at Heart!
Will you rent it nightly, for long weekends? We are looking for a place for spring break! ! (First week of April!)
KathEats says
I think we will do long weekends in the off season yes.
But it’s off the market that week because we’re going for spring break 🙂 🙂

Love the name Younger at Heart. the house looks like a great purchase. Can you have your Dad do a guest post on his trip? Hiking in Nepal sounds amazing!!

I second the guest post from your Dad on the Nepal hiking adventure! Awesome house!
Jodea says
Yep, Younger at Heart for me. What a beautiful house and a fun family project.
Jessica says
Honestly, I think the beard looks awesome. But… I love beards. My husband has one.
I like Younger at Heart. I think keeping the name a part of it is a great idea. And that bedding is so pretty. <3

I love all of those names, and it would be so fun to stay there! Gorgeous home!

The biscuit looks amazing!!! And I am in full support of puns, with West Tide Story being up there on the list!
Nicole @ Bento Momentos says
Awesome that you got your little a helmet before letting him get on that scooter! Too many kids nowadays don’t wear a helmet. I’ve never been to a marsh (for some reason, I associated it with muddy waters) but this looks gorgeous!

“No Egrets” made me laugh out loud!

Hi Kath, what a beautiful place! I love the name: Younger at Heart
Linda @ the Fitty says
gosh, I would love to find an Airbnb place that looks just like this! I’m traveling some time in Vancouver in December, do you think I’d have the same view? I know that Vancouver is in island so perhaps I could see the seashore.

Ive never been to bald head sounds amazing. How lucky your parents now have a place of heaven too for great family trips. Younger at heart is perfect, and daddy looks awesome with his beard. Glad you guys had a nice trip.
Nikki says
Haha, our family loves puns, so “No Egrets” is the winner in my mind! (with “West Tide Story” and “Marshin’ Landing” close behind). But that said, “Younger at Heart” is probably the one that best fits your parents and their new venture 🙂
Jill says
I always love your clothes and sense of style. Where did you get the houndstooth workout pullover from this post? Thanks!
KathEats says
It’s a Lululemon jacket! Definitely one of my most worn items 🙂
Anne Weber-Falk says
Love Marshin’ Landing. Did your folks buy this with other people or are they the sole owners? Just curious as we are thinking about going in on a place as a family. We could also rent it out if we wish to but our family is so big that I know we would be occupying the place most of the three seasons we would want to use it for.
Sarah says
Hi! What a great place to own a home! Do you have a link to the rental listing to share? My family goes every summer with some friends and the house we rent on the marsh isn’t up for rent this summer. I’m wondering if your parents home would be an option. Thanks!
KathEats says
I don’t think 2018 is listed yet but I will probably share eventually!
Sarah says
Thanks!
Natasha says
The Tides of Marsh definitely.
How much will you be asking?

My vote is for younger at heart—I mean once I read that nothing else seemed to match as well. Also would LOVE to rent it some day —that would be so cool!
