Remember that Nickelodeon show "Are You Afraid Of The Dark?"
So, so scary!!
They always had stories called "The Tale Of The.." so when I write that for a title, that’s the tone I’m going for 😉
I miss my breakfast sunshine terribly! There is nothing worse for photography than a dark earth 🙁
Up at 5 this AM to get this party started. Matt works later in the morning on mondays, so I had him around to make me breakfast! He was nice and got up with me. And brought home this muffin on Friday!
Blueberry Oat Bran
My human ingredient list verified that this is not your typical store-bought muffin! Made with 100% (or nearly 100%) whole grains, canola, and simple ingredients, it’s as close as home-made as you can get!
Matt made a simple whipped banana oatmeal base with chia seeds and I put the muffin on top with some Greek yogurt and Nuttzo!!
I thought the yogurt would go well with the muffin. It didn’t not go well, but it wasn’t my favorite. I heated the whole bowl up in the microwave to warm up the yogurt and ruined the oats (oats do NOT like microwaves!!! They get sticky!)
It’s a full moon – somebody doesn’t know how to pour slowly to get froth!

How weird, we must have been on the same vibe! I made some blueberry oat muffins yesterday for our breakfasts this week: wholemeal flour, Scottish porridge oats, but probably too much sugar, so I’ll be sure to cut down next time. They tasted great, with a good nutty flavour courtesy of the porridge oats and flour.
Have a good Monday!

I love my oatmeal microwaved, but not when it has yogurt on it because then it kills the probiotics and makes it curd.

skinnyrunner says

Karla says
I was always too scared to watch Are You Afraid of the Dark!!
Stephanie says
Hm, got something else to tell you about microwaves too….research indicates that they kill up to 90% of the food’s nutrition. Yeah. Not only that but they create free radicals. Ever since I learned that in holistic nutrition school I have not microwaved once…
BODA weight loss
Sara says
Stephanie – holistic nutrition is a joke. It is based on baseless, unscientific ideas and opinions (not facts) and is taught by complete wing nuts. I hope you didn’t pay too much money to obtain your ‘holistic nutrition school’ certificate because it is a farce and completely useless in the real world. You are qualified to do nothing other than to sell bogus supplements or open your own practice which I hope you never do. Do you ever wonder why health care institutions such as hospitals won’t hire holistic nutritionists such as yourself? Maybe it is because they recognize that you are not qualified to care for or counsel patients?
jenny says
*sigh*
Once again, reading this post and these comments has made me painfully aware that I was deprived as a child- NO CABLE. 🙁 Have a good day at work!

I may or may not have had to sleep with my parents for 2 months after a certain AYAOTD episode :/ The one with the vampire in the movie theater. I honestly think I would die if I saw it again….!
katherine says
I adored that show!
I agree – waking up in the dark is NO fun. And having to eat breakfast when I feel like I should still be a sleep really is a challenge for me. Thankfully, I have nice things to distract me when I first wake up like reading great blogs!
David H. says
Soon enough, you’ll be enjoying your breakfast in the sunshine again!
Serena says
God…I am old….lol. The tale of… reminds me of Nancy Drew books!

I’m not really sure, but it’s pretty low. Maybe in the 50s? I have really love blood pressure to begin with.

Jessica says
Have you ever tried making oatmeal using soy milk? Do you think it would turn out creamy like with regular milk?
Kath says
Yes! I used to use it all the time until we switched to organic milk full time for coffee reasons. It works great. I think I even prefer it in oats to milk for the sweetness (vanilla that is)
shelby says
omg i used to love that show when i was a kid! your breakfast looks amazing, i too have to wake up at the crack of dawn and my pics never turn out because of the lighting 🙁 but yours still looks great! anyways i just wanted to say i love your blog and am a big fan:)

I think you should do a post entitled “HOW TO MAKE PERFECT OATS”
Seriously I need this kind of help. And it should be a very detailed step by step type of deal. I have never liked hot cereal and I’m convinced it’s because I have only been exposed to microwave quick oats. So many people like them, I feel like I must be missing out. Throw a girl a bone!
Kath says
You must not have clicked to this page yet? It’s got everything you need plus a VIDEO!

Another lover of Are You Afraid of the Dark! I used to watch all the time in 7th grade! And it usually scared me too!
