I love wedding so much, and they are even more fun when the wedding is in the family!!
My cousin, Caroline a.k.a. “Beaner” is getting married tomorrow. She lives in Tasmania with her husband-to-be, Kris, who is Australian! Many of Kris’s family members are in town and we are having fun getting to know them.
The wedding is themed after Beaner’s favorite childhood poem, “The Owl and the Pussycat,” which has significance for the couple as well. My grandmother hand-painted their wedding invitations and there are owls and cats scattered throughout the weekend!
Tonight’s party was held at my aunt and uncle’s house in the beautiful setting that is their backyard.
Kris loves craft beer and right when we arrived an array of beers were brought out for tasting, including several of Matt’s home brews he brought from home. So sad I could not partake in this event!
Ginger ale for me!
Larbs and I did not plan our outfit coordination : )
And deep blues and purples seemed to be the costumes of the night!
Gram and me with California Cousin Anna!
When in Maryland…
Eat crabs! We kicked off dinner with a crab fest, and boy were these Old-Bay-covered crabs good!
So I could keep my hands clean, Matt picked through a couple and shared with me. I was like a baby bird receiving bits of claw meat!
Winston is one of two mastiffs that live here – biggest puppy ever! He has such a sweet presence
Dinner was a delicious mix of BBQ, salads, chips, and mac and cheese.
I couldn’t even finish this plate my stomach space – especially when hunched over – is getting so smooshed. But it tasted amazing!
And digestion occurred quickly enough that a hour later I had room for an ice cream sundae atop some pound cake!
We are getting tucked into bed back at our hotel – excited for the festivities to continue tomorrow!

Could you tell me your favorite things to do in Tassie? I live in NSW (from the US though) and want to go to Tassie so badly before I leave in December!!! Also whats the best time of year to visit!? 🙂

OMG you guys are too cute in your matching dresses. Winston is HUGE. I’d be terrified. Your sister looks way too calm in that picture. I know you said he’s sweet but it looks like he could eat her.
polly says
Kath you are so cute AGAIN! Love that dress too! Larbs is beautiful too. Sweet sisters.
So glad you had room for cake! 😉
Have a super weekend! XO

Sounds like a fun weekend awaits! Enjoy!
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
The ice cream sundae atop pound cake looks delish and I’m not much of a beer drinker (at all) so the fizzy ginger ale actually looks perfect to me.
Cherleen @ My Personal Finance Journey says
Weddings in the family are indeed fun! My auntie also lives in Maryland and I had a taste of their crabs and seafood when I spent a week of vacation two years ago. Hope you had fun!

I love your Gram – have a great weekend – stay cool
Lynn @ the actor's diet says
Even when I lived on the east coast I never had MD crabs. Yum.
Simply Life says
what a beautiful backyard! I’d love to see the invitations your grandmother painted!

Keeping your hands clean at a crab feast?! We have just lobster up here, but there is never a chance of clean hands when those come out.
That is a very pretty setting for a wedding. Is that the bride pretending to eat the crab leg?
Sally says
I’m amazed you still had room for dessert – but it looks amazing! The only thing better than ice cream is ice cream with cake 😀
Ma Fea says
What a gorgeous setting for a celebration–you have the coolest family!
Denise and Laura says
First off your gram looks lovely (so does everyone else, especially love your dress) and secondly, Winston is the strangest and most amazing and cutest looking dog I have ever seen!
Alyssa (pb and oatmeal) says
What a beautiful backyard!
Elizabeth says
Why did you need to keep your hands clean? Isn’t almost a requirement to dig in with your fingers at a crab feast? That’s half the fun!
KathEats says
Because I’ve cracked plenty a’crab in my life and it’s more fun to just eat the crab sometimes
Anne says
Now this looked like a fun wedding! Seemed like everyone could relax and have a good time with one another. Winston is gorgeous just roaming around like that. I support any wedding that includes pets as guests. You really missed out digging into those crabs…let loose Kath!
KathEats says
I got my hands plenty messy at the beach last week! Plus it was only one crab -not 10 !
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
Your Gram has the kindest face! Family get togethers are always so much fun! Enjoy!
Amanda says
Love that picture of you and Larbs! My sister and I do that ALL THE TIME! For three years, we worked at the same school and it was almost a weekly thing. Either the same colors, and sometimes the exact same item. We have completely different body types, so she always looked cuter-she’s long & lean naturally, while I’m shorter & curvier. Our co-workers never ceased to comment. We just apparently gravitated towards similar colors that complimented our looks and similar styles, too!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
That looks like such a beautiful evening! and great food! Enjoy your time with your family!
Molly @ RDexposed says
I love me a good beer line up!

How exciting! It all looks like a blast. I love the idea of the beer tasting–The Rogue has definitely caught my eye 🙂 You and your sister look adorable (in an adult way of course) in your matching outfits–great minds think alike!
Courtney @ Outrunning Insecurities says
Crabs are such a pain the butt, wouldn’t be worth it if they didn’t taste so good. Crawfish are even worse in that department though. So much work for so little meat. That and they just kinda taste like pure spicy most of the time. Still like them though.
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
Looks like fun!

Ooooh have a GREAT time! It looks fun!

Love the dress! Random question. I am getting my first share from as CSA on Wednesday. I generally go grocery shopping on Saturdays because I work during the week. I’m much more of a rigid meal planner than you, but now I can’t plan my menus past Wednesday since I don’t know for sure what will be in the box! I was wondering if you have some ideas for meals that can easily be made from whatever I get in my share until I get to Saturday. I know frittatas, pasta with veggies, salads are easy to adapt to what you have on hand, but wondering if you have any other ideas for sort of base recipes that I can use for whatever I end up getting.
Lexi @ You, Me, & A World to See says
Mac and cheese, crab, ice cream, and pound cake? Yummmm, sounds like comfort food to me!

All of the food looks so good! I have to say that your Gram looks like such a fun lady.

Love a big pile o’ blue crabs!! How lucky are you that Matt was willing to do that dirty work to the meat for you! Mac and cheese looks yummy too!
