How did it go from a weather prediction of freezing rain to a gorgeous sun-soaked afternoon that warrants eating al fresco!?
I drove to the gym this morning and went to a Hatha Flow class. Yoga just feels right when it’s cloudy outside and yesterday’s class left me with an unscratched itch. My itch is STILL unscratched – but I have a few classes on my radar to go to in the next week 🙂 Or perhaps Dave Farmar can help me out! I did really enjoy the peace that today’s class brought though – I thank the lovely yoga chant music the instructor played!
I know I should have a clear mind during yoga, but I had juicing on the brain!
It was exactly what I wanted for lunch. I always think of juice as a breakfast item, but it was very fun to have with lunch!
Celery (a lot!), carrots, ginger, apple, lemon, kale. I think this is the last time I’m going to juice with kale. I would have had so much fun eating that kale as kale chips and it barely gave me a tablespoon of juice! I actually sent it through the juicer twice to try to get more out of it!!
Of course the moose was drooling vegetables today 🙂
Along with my juice – I fulfilled another craving – sardines!
I have not been remembering to eat one tin a week for nutrition!
Mashed into a slice of bread (along with mayo, dijon mustard, salt and pepper) and topped with sliced bell pepper, avocado, and cilantro!
The Next Big Thing!!
She’s got curves like no other..
Shines like a star..
Any guesses to the next big giveaway through OpenSky!?
You guessed right! In honor of our Great Harvest to be, we like it when people mix, knead and make dough, so we’re giving away a Kitchenaid Artisan 5-quart stand mixer! The same one I have and love.
Enter here:

Do you know of any good tinned sardines that are BPA-free? I was eating King Oscar but started having weird allergic reactions, so I wanted to try a different brand. No idea if King Oscar is BPA-free or full but I thought I’d look into it for the replacement brand. Thanks!
KathEats says
I don’t know – but I’d check the fancier ones at your local healthy store like whole foods

Hello Kath –
Regarding your yoga “itch” – a few online yoga sites that I’d recommend for a super strong, lovely, sweaty vinyasa flow:
Http://www.yogisanonymous.com and http://www.yogaglo.com
I’m currently living in Wales, no vinyasa yoga – these websites are wonderful & they keep me “honed”! Try Kathryn Budig & Dice Lida-Klein on YogaGlo and Krista Cahill and Ally Hamleton on Yogisanonymous. : )
Kristina says
I second yogaglo – that site is awesome.
KathEats says
Thanks!
Kiran says
I want it! 😀 In any color would do 😉

Megan says

Yeah, I’m jealous of your nice weather. Either you guys somehow missed the storm…or it’s coming your way! It’s so drab and icy here in Ohio. I had to put the Netflix movie in the mail today and basically SKATED to the mailbox!

Jo says
Oh my goodness! I’m so excited about this giveaway 😀
Jennie @ Designed to be Fit says
My kitchenaid mixer is my pride and joy! I never baked before I got it and now I make something with it at least once a week. If I did win (since I’m following you and all) I would give it to my very deserving sister! She is a working mother of a toddler, and loves to make treats for him but just has a handheld mixer.
Ling says
Fab give away! and even more amazing sammie! just curious- the obsession with sardines: is it the Omega-3s or the Co-Q10 that you love? it seems like you make it just like a tuna salad, no? whenever i think of sardines i think of the whole fish in a can, like anchovies…
Anyway- as a dentist- I think it’s great that this was on your list of things to do–did you know that gum disease is correlated with pre-term birth, low birth weight, and heart disease? Flossing is the Best! hope your gummies are healthy!! (also just to be a stickler- if you don’t have insurance it’s better to go to the dds and pay for the cleaning and exam then not to go and end up with a much pricier list of treatment needs)
KathEats says
The omaga-3s, the calcium, the vitamin d, the high quality protein – all of the above!
I always go 2x a year for my cleanings 🙂
Christina says
OMG I’ve seriously been secretly praying for a Kitchen Aid! Hahahahahaha!!!
AnneW says
One of my dream of dreams is to own a KitchenAid! That would make my YEAR!
Gill (snaxandthecity) says
i can’t ever get any juice out of kale either!? some people seem to tho!

Hi Kath,
I had something similar; a whole tin of sardines, half avocado, etc etc. Good stuff.

This whole post is drool-worthy! Your lunch will be replicated just after a trip to my local grocery! Yumm! I’m one of those weird people that loves sardines.
I’ve been dreaming of a Kitchenaid mixer since I was 15! That’s almost half my lifetime! 😉
Hope says
This is the best giveaway ever! I am dying for one of those Kitchen Aid mixers! I have wanted one for such a long time but I cannot afford to buy one. I am keeping my fingers crossed!!! 🙂
Kelly says
Cool giveaway, but did you already announce the winner of the food processor? I’ve read each post daily, and unless I’m just forgetting, I didn’t see the winner announced. Thanks!
KathEats says
I did on Friday’s dinner post – Vanessa
Melomeals: Vegan for $3.33 a Day says
Awesome giveaway..
Your juice looks amazing.. it’s hard to get a lot of liquid out kale. I love my Samson for greens..
Emily says
I need to learn to love sardines…how did you start to eat them?
KathEats says
I read a bunch of magazine articles about how good they are for you and so I picked some up. I thought they were going to taste like anchovies but they were much more mild like tuna.
Marissa says
Soooo excited about this giveaway! Could you use the kale pulp to make bread or muffins similiar to zucchini bread? Or maybe a more savory muffin? I’m not sure how it would turn out but might be a good way to get full use out of your kale after juicing!
Molly says
What are the benefits of sardines?
Kristina says
I’m sure when a moose chews up a bunch of veggies and spits them into a mug, that’s EXACTLY what it looks like. Moose = nature’s vitamix?
Seriously though, delicious looking smoothie. And enjoy the dentist! (??)
KathEats says
Haha!
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says

Serena says
So please don’t take this as a criticism, but since this is the first time that I’ve seen you do a more “formal” giveaway that requires consenting to a third party’s terms and conditions (including its privacy policy), I think it would be a good idea for you to disclose to your readers whether OpenSky will receive entrants’ email addresses and is getting entrants’ permission via their checking that box to use their email for marketing purposes. I also think that now that you’re doing big league giveaways in conjunction with an established company, you should have sweepstakes rules, to comply with sweepstakes law. Depending on who is awarding the prize and what the value of the prize is, there could be tax consequences and, well, not having rules is a violation of sweepstakes law. I’m sure people will think I’m being a downer, but this type of promotion is exactly what the FTC and those endorsement guidelines are designed to protect.
KathEats says
Noted. I’ve passed this along to OpenSky. I think the biggest thing with the FTC is disclosure and I clearly stated that OpenSky was hosting the giveaway. I’ve also said in the past (and perhaps should have restated here) that the newsletter is only from me via OpenSky and emails will never be shared.
Annette says
I am already following, so does that work/count also?! I sure hope so, because I LOVE making bread!!! I hope I win!
ashley@quasichick says
Kale sucks! I hate juicing with it, I feel like I get ripped off! I love using romaine though 🙂
Andy says
Ok – friends to the east, you’d better batten down the hatches! I’m in middle America and getting completely hammered with blowing snow. It’s so heavy right now I can barely see a tree that’s about 50 yards away. Luckily, I got a phone call today saying work was cancelled for tomorrow so I don’t have to venture out in this mess, but I’m sure it’s headed your way… Stay warm and safe!
Sara (Miles & Manhattan) says
SO jealous of the al fresco dining!! 🙂

Hi Kath! I’ve been following your blog for a long time now. I enjoy all the inspiration! I love seeing your travels & the new home series too! I just wanted to write after seeing your post about your mom’s book. I work in an elementary school library in a small suburb outside of Madison, Wisconsin. I recognized the book, pulled it off the shelf, read it & then proceded to display it for the students to see & read. It was fun having a connection to a book. I just thought I’d share…… 🙂
Mom says
Lisa,
You made my night! Do check out some of the activities on my website (related to the book.) Http://www.barbarakyounger.com
KathEats says
so exciting!!
Heather R. says
It is my absolute dream to own a Kitchen Aid mixer! It has been on my Christmas wish list for eons but sadly has never been in the budget. I’m now following you on Open Sky, and hoping & praying I’ll win this incredible giveaway!
kim says
speaking of yoga, have you ever been to yogaville?
KathEats says
Not yet!
Lauren says
Hi Kath,
I’ve been reading your blog for a while now, and I recently started a blog of my own (http://mybreadproject.blogspot.com/). I had been making alot of bread and someone at work told me I should blog about it to document the process. Its a work in progress, but I’ve been enjoying it. That mixer might help me post more often… 😉
Anyways, just wanted to say thanks for the daily inspiration to eat healthy and live well.
_Lauren
Heather says
Have been following you since the new year and you inspire me so!
🙂
Would love the mixer!
Baking 'n' Books says
Oh…I wish I could be as healthy as you …:( Same mistakes over and over…
Nevertheless – – are there benefits from sardines over over fish?
Baking 'n' Books says
Also – do you mind if I ask how long you’ve been blogging and the journey to the amazing success you have now? Do you love to write and blog? Or more-so to bake and the food?
KathEats says
I’ve been blogging everyday, 3x a day, for 3.5 years. It’s quite amazing to think about! I’ve missed a few posts when I went on a cruise to Bermuda or when the blog crashed, but I think it’s the dedication that has made it most successful. I love it!!
jennifer says
i’ve always dreamed of owning a kitchenaid stand mixer – thank you for the chance to win one! i hope the dentist went well, it’s so essential to find a good one!
Lisa Yang says
sardines and mixer = two of my favourite things! Your lunch is so colourful, love it.
Christin@purplebirdblog says
I just made my first loaf of bread the other night, and it sure was a PITA mixing it with a hand mixer! 😀
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
Kale chips are the ultimate way to eat kale!
KathEats says
Sardines = omega-3, calcium + vitamin D – 3 things we all need more of!
They are also a great source of protein, sustainable, shelf stable and cheap!
heather says
use the leaves of the kale for kale chips and juice the stems! also, juice broccoli stems! i quickly realized that greens don’t work for juicing (rather save ’em for green smoothies) if you have a breville (need a greenstar or something to get more juice) but the stems are awesome!
Kay says
Yes! I am getting my first place off-campus in June and I would LOVE a Kitchen Aid!
Laura says
You inspire me to take the time to eat my nutritious food from a beautiful presentation! Thank you for reminding me that I’m not JUST eating. I am feeding soul! 🙂
Meaghan says
Craving juice now!
Is the giveaway only for American residents?
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
I think KitchenAide mixers are essential to a cook’s kitchen! Excellent giveaway 🙂
heatherfeather says
I’m getting married in July and think this would be an amazing house warmer. 🙂
megan @ blackberries for jam says
Thanks to you, I’m easing my way into sardines. They’re actually pretty good! Just wondering, do you save part of the tin in the fridge once it’s opened? Do you know how long an open tin will keep?
KathEats says
I normally eat a whole tin or share them with Matt, so I’ve never had leftovers. I’d probably transfer them to a little container.
Katie says
I would love to have a new mixer and would pass my existing one on to my sister. Enjoy your sunshine, here in Nebraska it is below zero with snow and wind. I was in Florida on Monday and am now on my second day of not leaving the house.
Gita says
Love the giveaway. Apple Green, Red and purple are my favorites. Best of luck at the dentist.
Sandy M says
A new mixer would help my new health journey a lot.
Thanks for the opportunity.
Heather says
Sky blue..it would feel so fresh in my kitchen!
just the receptionist says
A bright mixer sounds like a great compliment to any kitchen! Cheerful and useful. 🙂
Amber K says
Oh my gosh, I LOVE those mixers. I would never be able to afford one, but my best friend has one and she is always using it.
Beth says
Kath, I am loving your organization posts, but I wish they were more applicable to small apartments. I have the problem of too much stuff, not enough space, and I definitely don’t have the option of basement storage or turning an extra bedroom into a closet in a 650 sq. ft. apartment. Do you have any recommendations for decluttering or small storage? Thanks!
Tami Jo Eaton says
Oh Kath, I would so love to win that mixer and I am in agreement with you, that green would be so cool. Everytime I hit the thrift store I search out anything green.
Maura says
OMG. This giveaway is amazing!!! Crossing my fingers!!
Stephanie @ Living and Loving says
I’ve been coveting this mixer for about 2 years now!!!! EEEEK!
bitt says
Breville’s are no good at juicing greens. You’d be better off blending it up.
Alaina says
That Kitchenaid is beautiful. 🙂 I love your silverware; where did you get it? C&B?
KathEats says
Good guess 🙂 But it’s Pottery Barn’s Luna line.
Jane says
I am new to your site. That is a GREAT giveaway. I have always wanted a Kitchen Aid, but never had the extra “dough” to buy one. I think the Tangarine or Green Apple colors would be so bright and cheery to look at everyday.
NatB says
just love this mixer!
anna says
I had sardines on toast how you did it here (but with tomato sauce instead of red peppers) and it was delishhhh 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration!
