I was so productive today and it was awesome!! Supercharged. Hopefully tomorrow will be the same! Sometimes I just get tired of looking at a list and want to knock it all out at once. Whee!
By late afternoon, though, my shoulders were killing me. I have awful posture when sitting at my desk. I probably need a new chair. Or just something to remind me to keep my shoulders back. I decided a long afternoon walk was just what I needed.
My mom is writing a novel about a 10-year-old and her aunt, who writes a pie blog. It’s quite the brilliant story [and you can guess who the inspiration was!!] I’m helping her with a lot of the blogging details as well as the plot. I called her on my walk and we worked on the book for over an hour. She just signed with a new agent and we are crossing our fingers this book is a winner!
You guys would read it, right!?
I walked for an hour and 20 minutes all around my neighborhood. It was awesome!! I stretched out my chest and back and felt great when I returned for a bit more to-do.
Dinner tonight was just reheated leftovers. I actually planned a new meal for tonight, but when I realized we had at least 3 servings of our Cauliflower Crockpot meal, I decided that made more sense to eat.
We all love meals that don’t require much cooking!
I put some millet on the stove and headed the leftovers in another pot. Dinner was ready in no time!
We recreated the meal exactly – yogurt, pecans and all!! The only swap was the millet underneath instead of brown rice.
So very delicious!
After dinner we were settling into the evening when I got a text from Faith requesting a walk! I am not one to turn down a nice walk on a warm evening, so she biked over and we went out for a loop in the neighborhood. I’m pretty sure both walks totally about 7 miles! Those miles really add up. I was in no mood to run even 3 miles today, but I sure knocked out 7 easy by walking.
After our walk, Tate actually came over and we had a quick beer in the basement. Well, Faith and I had sparkling water and the boys had beer.
Matt does the sign over his keg by hand!
This month he’s featuring a new Smoked Brown Ale with Smokey the Bear himself!!
I found myself [and Shaklee!] mentioned in Woman’s Day today!!! Very cool.
Time to call it a night!

Matt’s beer chalkboard is very impressive! I’d love to try the IPA!

The dinner and using leftovers…yay for that. I always say planned leftovers save my life! FT working mom, blogger, etc..yes, I love leftovers!
Miranda @ Working Mom Works Out says
That sounds a like a cute novel! Is she a writer or is this her first book?
KathEats says
She is a writer. Check out her website I did for her resume! https://barbarakyounger.wordpress.com
Mary (What's Cookin' with Mary) says
I agree !
Stacy @ Every Little Thing says
Lovin’ the beer chalkboard! I bet he’ll do great things on the GH chalkboards too.
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
I have terrible posture too! I can even slouch on a balance ball :). I need a chair forces me to sit up straight if there is one!
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
I would for sure read that book! In fact, I would put it in my classroom library!
Mama Pea says
Now hear me out…what if the main character of your mom’s book didn’t blog about “PIES” but blogged about “PEAS.” I think she’d have a best-seller on her hands.
KathEats says
HAHAHA!!!!!!!!
Mom says
Well there’s always the sequel….
Krissy - Shiawase Life says
Would I read it!?! Where can I PREORDER it?!?!?
KathEats says
🙂
Diana says
Yup, I agree with you – walking definitely does add up! I walked 15 miles today… There is no way I could run that far, but taking it slow seemed to work 🙂
lynn @ the actor's diet says
a book about pie and blogging? YES!!!
Baking Books says
That’s what I was thinking! I would SO read it.
I am so impressed…I can only imagine how hard it must be to break into the writing world of publishing…would love to see a guest post from your Ma sometime about writing and how to do about it maybe??…;)
Christine says
That’s awesome about your mom. Is this her first novel?
By the way, the pictures on the blog are so great. Do you ever print them or do anything besides putting them up here?
KathEats says
It’s not the first she’s written, no, but she keeps trying!
I haven’t framed any photos yet. I’m waiting for the right wall in the right house!
Amy says
Your mom has my dream job! And Matt is such a good artist, wow! I wish I had some kind of artistic ability.
Angel7 says
I love fruitful days when a lot is accomplished!
Leftovers are cool! I love the aspect of putting the leftovers in a pan, re-cooking them, and then plate-ing them–so quick and easy!!!

Sounds like you got in a lot of fitness today. Healthy living at it’s finest.
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
We did leftovers tonight too! Perfect way to enjoy a little extra time in the day. I love walking. It makes me feel so good to walk and chat with my husband (he’s my walking pal). Have a great evening Kath.
Aly says
Hey Kath! Congrats on a very successful day. So did you know you were going to be mentioned in Women’s Day or did you just “spot” it? I thought they’d have to have permission to use your name. Just wondering.
KathEats says
I found it when they tweeted me on Twitter! You don’t need permission to write about someone.
The Red Velvet Wife says
Congrats on the mention in Woman’s Day — very exciting! And your mom’s book sounds super cute! xo
Lisa Fine says
Wow, you and your blog are written about all over the place. Love it!
I love easy dinners like that, especially when you can swap one item to make the meal taste a little bit different.
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
I love the idea of a pie blog. I’d love to get pies sent to my house to sample 😉
Justeen @ Blissful Baking says
The novel sounds really interesting! Of course I’d read it 🙂
Sabina says
How about getting a stability ball (and stand) to use instead of a desk chair?
I attended a Green Living Expo last weekend and Shaklee had a booth. I first heard of them through your blog and researched them a bit. The starter kit was priced at a ridiculously low price so I thought, “why not?” . My start up kit arrives next week; looking forward to it!
KathEats says
Honestly, I don’t want a stability ball in my living room! Bad excuse, but it’s true.
Glad you got some Shaklee!
Namaste Gurl says
I love walking- it’s the best! Sometimes it’s a much better option for my legs and mind when I don’t feel like running 🙂
Vanessa says
I love that your Mom is an author. So cool. I would love to be able to write a book sometime in my life.
Ashley @ Feeding Ashley says
Matt’s quite talented! I love the book idea. I’d totally read it, but I’m obsessed with blogging so perhaps I’m biased.
Laura (On the Threshold of Greatness) says
Congrats on the magazine! I love seeing an awesome blogger and a company with a 50+ year history of environmental integrity getting the props they deserve! 😀
Love the idea of your mom’s book! I’d totally read it! Is your mom a children’s author, or is this a “grown-up” book?
KathEats says
It’s for kids!
sarah (sarah learns) says
i love when leftovers end up being a delicious second meal! 🙂 and matt’s drawings always impress me. how does that man find time to brew beer with all of your crazy bakery happenings lately?!
Ashley says
Mmm, love that millet pile!! Too funny that Matt has beer features for the month. I love brown ales!! One of the breweries out here, O’dell, has been brewing an oak aged ale [90 Shillings] and it is out of control amazing. The “smoked” beer made me think of the oak aged one that I love!
KathEats says
Mmmm oak 🙂
JenATX says
duh I’d read your mom’s book… its about pie, c’mon!
Amanda (tomboy that wears makeup) says
Congrats on the shout out!! Exciting! So cool that your mom is a writer too. Moms chats rule!

Nancy says
Just curious how often you still talk with your mom? I think its great you seem to have such a close relationship.
KathEats says
Everyday! Usually by G-chat though. We used to talk everyday on my commute, but now that I’m at home it’s more computer based
Lisa (bakebikeblog) says
a lovely day indeed!
Alaina says
What a great chalkboard! Will you have something like that in the bakery?
KathEats says
Yep!
Khushboo says
Love the sound of your mom’s read! I’d buy/read it…especially if she writes anything like you 🙂
Kate says
Wow, you did walk quite a lot! I love walking but I live on a cul-de-sac which makes it a little bit boring sometimes and not to mention, it is like 90F in Dallas right now. I don’t even want to venture outside, it is so scary hot and humid.
Your mom’s book sounds good! I used to write short fiction stories and it is actually more difficult to write than people think.
You almost have me convinced of buying the Shakelee starter kit. I hear such good things about it but it is kind of pricey. Maybe I’ll buy it for my mom on Mother’s Day and use it myself 🙂 She’ll at least get a clean house out of it!
KathEats says
You don’t have to buy the whole kit! Maybe just try out the Basic H for starters
Christina says
hi kath, this is my first time commenting. i just wanted to say thank you for all the energy and inspiration you provide with your blog, i enjoy it so much! i’m a german girl running and eating real in meatloving paris 😉 this morning it was so hard to get out of bed for my run but now that i’m back i feel so energized for the day to come! i thought of you saying you never regretted going for exercise! thanks kath, you already made my day and it’s not even 8am! bisous de paris
KathEats says
Thank you and thanks for your comment!
Kiran @ KiranTarun.com says
Matt does have great skills with a chalk. Great for announcing daily specials when the bakery is open for business 🙂
Karen says
I used to have this problem with my shoulders, which led to chronic neck pain. When you’re at a desk most of the day, it can be a real problem.
I solved it for myself by doing the following:
I adjusted the height of my chair UP so that I had no choice but to drop my shoulders in order to type comfortably. If this leaves your legs dangling you can add a foot rest under the desk.
I make sure I move the keyboard back on the desk so that all of my forearm is supported. This not only helped with my shoulders/neck but also with my RSI in my wrists.
hope this helps 🙂
KathEats says
I will try a different chair!
Michelle Wood says
Congrats on being mentioned in Woman’s Day! That’s awesome!
I love walking too! I’ve never been much for running, but I’ll walk all day long!
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Your mom’s new book sounds awesome!! I like the plot. 🙂 Would love to read it! Good luck to her!
Leftovers are awesome. I don’t have them often, but I like when I do just for the convenience! I also love walking. It’s my exercise of choice, because yeah, it’s easy, pleasurable, and it really helps. 🙂
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
SO neat about the book! I’d definitely love to read it. And that’s so awesome that you’re able to give her some insight to your world and play a role in the book’s development!
What a great dinner dish! And congrats on the article!
Lauren says
I bet the weather is perfect for long walks in C-Ville right now. I wish the rain would subside here so that more walking could take place. Soon hopefully! 🙂
Simply Life says
that’s so fun your mom is writing a novel! has she written other books?
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I’ve been hunched over my books studying for exams all week, so I feel your pain! Walk are always a great cure though. 😀
Sarah says
The book sounds awesome! I am also wishing it was warm enough here to just take a stroll. Love the chalkboard.
Molly says
I have the WORST posture! I’d have a PT at the hospital tell me to straighten up every time he saw me. And a smoked beer? I can’t seem to like those very much. I do not like my beer tasting like bacon!
Tabitha says
Best of luck to your mom. She should offer something for book clubs, like discussion questions in the back or she will join book-clubs by phone for discussion.
It is amazing how far you can walk and talk without noticing, the best exercise!
Sarah (Running To Slow Things Down) says
The sign is awesome! Looks like you won’t have any issues coming up with new and cool signs to post at the bakery. 😉
My shoulders feel it after sitting down at the desk all day too. A walk does wonders. I bet a new chair would too though, now that you mention it! I may have to look into this. 😀
Salah@myhealthiestlifestyle says
matts chalkboard looks great!!!
Louise says
My left shoulder has been killing me for weeks. I’m such a hypochondriac that every time the commercial for fibromyalgia comes on TV during the evening news, I convince myself I have it. Just because the lady in the commercial grabs her shoulder the same way I do! I’m sure it is merely the fact that I spend eight hours a day at a desk and I have the posture of Montgomery Burns!!
rebecca lustig says
oh that is very cool that you were mentioned in Women’s Day! And I agree, sometimes I underestimate the walking but that’s great 🙂
Célèste says
Your mom’s book sounds great. I totally want to read it.
Clare @ Fitting It All IN says
The book sounds adorable! Can’t wait to read it:)
Mom says
Thanks, Everybody, about my novel. Kath’s inspiration and help has been wonderful. Let’s hope this one makes it.
Melissa @ Journey to Marvelous says
I think just with all of your readers Kath, your mom would have a bestseller! It’s a great idea for a novel. 🙂
Beth @ DiningAndDishing says
I have a lot of shoulder problems from working at a desk too! I would love to see a KERF post on ways to solve posture problems if you ever feel so inclined :).
Stephanie says
Try this to help your desk posture. I haven’t tried it yet, but plan to….worth a shot!
