Matt and I woke up too hungry to wait for a scone at the market. Plus our breakfast at the inn was included….and featured that amazing granola!! So we showered and ate.
I had a pile of blueberries topped with granola and a little milk
Plus fruit
And a half cup of coffee and a bite of this apple muffin!
HIs
And then we FINALLY got to check out the Cville Market!!! I have always wanted to be a farmer’s market-goer but I have nit-picky complaints about the ones in Charlotte. Mostly that I have to drive to them all. Can’t wait to bike to this one!
It was everything I hoped it would be
Stephanie and Cara met to hang out!
This is for you Canada (mmm onions!)
KATH EATS REAL FOOD! YEAH!
Hands down the best jam I’ve EVER had!
Blackberry Peach Lemon!?
More coffee was required. It was H.O.T. so we opted for iced
And we bought a bag of our favorite roaster!!
We picked up some veggies to bring home. Mmmm, nutrients!! Collards, kale, zucchini, squash, heirlooms, peaches, coffee.
Can’t wait to come back for jam + cilantro curry sauce!
We are picking up sandwiches and hitting the road back to the big city 🙁
Take me away from home, country roads.

Emily says
So jealous that you got leafy greens at that market! Apparently its too hot and late in the season down here in NC for kale. Biking to the farmer’s market is the most funnest too…you’ll love it!
Andrea [bella eats] says
So glad you loved our market! But, how could you not?!? 🙂 Safe travels home…see you in 10 days!!!
Emilie says
I love a great farmer’s market. You know what I dislike though? When there are stands set up selling produce imported from other countries/places. It’s like a trick, because most people assume that anything sold at the farmer’s market is grown at a farm nearby, right?
We used to live by a market that had a rule that if you didn’t grow it, you couldn’t sell it. It was great because it avoided me having to be annoying and ask every seller “did you grow this on your farm?” Anyone else feel this way?
Angie says
I totally agree! Sometimes the stands are selling stuff that doesn’t come close to growing around our area, like pineapples and bananas. Why are they at the farmer’s market and not at the regular grocery store?
Angie says
Beautiful farmers Market!! Love the tomatoes -and the blackberries look absolutely amazing! Love “Real Food” on the sign…perfect!
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
I love the berry picture. Made me drool and go get a bowl of berries from the fridge.
I love our two little farmer’s markets but they are little. I miss the bigger ones where I used to live. But I’ll take good local food wherever I can get it.
Wei-Wei says
Yay for the farmer’s market! Everything looks so interesting 🙂

Laura @ youngDCliving says
That market looks like so much fun. Was that a CUP of jam for tasting? Hehe. Was there any Polyface meat there? You should drive down to the farm some day, its only like 40-50 miles outside C-Ville.
Kath says
Ha, no! that was my iced coffee!
Lana says
Gorgeous!!! 🙂
Thanks for the “hello Canada” loving.
How do you bike home with all the produce you will surely pick up at a farmer’s market?
Lovely lovely lovely.
Also, dumb question perhaps, but how does your Garmin know the distance you bike? Is it GPS based? I want to learn more! 🙂
Kath says
Yes, it’s GPS!
Ashley says
Your “INN” breakfasts inspired mine today!! Fresh fruit, cereal, zucch muffin w/AB..YUM! Our markets are finally getting better with more local produce coming around. You would be completely amazed at the deliciousness of Colorado peaches. Wow. They are a bit smaller than SC/GA peaches but dripping w/juice + sweetness! mmm 🙂 Glad you are having so much fun in your soon to be new town!
Laura says
I LOVE farmers markets…but you’re right, there’s something about driving to them that doesn’t feel quite right!
The jam you get IS delicious…espescially the plum ones! I don’t knwo why, but there is something so delicious about sweet plum jam from markets! xx
Sheila Viers | Live Well 360 says

I foresee kale chips! I love the Charlottesville markets – people are generally so friendly there 🙂
Britt says
AHHH I am so excited you are coming to Charlottesville! I’m a student at the University of Virginia and the Charlottesville City Market has to be my absolute favorite thing about this town. It keeps getting better and better every year and remains a weekly highlight for me.
Have you been to the Corner yet? When you move here I recommend checking it out ASAP, before college students flood in–you can do the holy pairing of coffee at Para and sandwiches from Take It Away, both Charlottesville staples. You also need to check out Rebecca’s Natural Foods (In Barracks right next to Kroger) if you want to get a wider range of local and healthy produce. In Summer and Autumn I usually end up getting all my dry and bulk goods from Rebecca’s and then fresh produce from the Market. Not too bad!
