Made it to Blacksburg in one piece! And that big lunch meant I was full through dinnertime.
Once I got here and checked in, I debated going out for dinner, but the rain and cold weather made my king bed look extra tempting…Just check out these pillows!! I dove into them and haven’t moved since.
I cracked open a “cocktail” I brought from home and debated my options. For dinner I packed a PB&J sandwich on Dakota plus grapes, strawberries and an apple and tons of snacky things like trail mix and granola.
But a sandwich just didn’t sound appealing tonight, so I peeked at the room service menu and decided to treat myself to a salad and salmon. For the nutrients, right!? I’m saving my sandwich for breakfast – unless the conference has something really good like hot oatmeal or greek yogurt!
It was nothing special, but given my circumstances on this rainy night and the fact that it was delivered hot to my door in 20 minutes, I’d call my first (second maybe?) in-room dining dinner experience a success.
I’ve been having fun watching Hulu and The Office and browsing baby stuff on the Internet. I’m hoping to write a few blog posts before bed and get a good night’s sleep.
For dessert I picked out the chocolate chips from my trail mix (so naughty!) and had my only two strawberries. Not bad!
Sleep tight!

Edited to add: Baby KERF decided I didn’t have any carbs at dinner and 2 hours post-meal demanded some sandwich. Good thing I had it on hand!

I’ve only ever ordered room service once on a cruise ship (because it was free!). The prices usually aren’t too bad though if the food is decent. Enjoy the conference!
Stephanie @ Legally Blinde says
Ooh, those pillows look very luxurious. Sleep tight!
Caroline @ After Dinner Dance says
Can’t beat fast room service – never that great but sometimes the convenience is worth it! I’d already be in that huge bed with all those pillows if I were you!
Sana says
I was always sketched out by room service, but it is convenient!
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says

For breakfast go to Gillies. Its progressive vegetarian and so, so good. I highly recommend the red earth made with tofu and the biscuit. Miss blacksburg so much!!! I went to graduate school there.

Em (Wine and Butter) says
I’ve only had one room service experience and it was actually REALLY good.
In Thailand though, and we also hit the mini bar Thai whiskey pretty hard, so that could have had something to do with it. Salmon is so satisfying though!
Allison k says
Ahhh room service. I have only ordered it once…the night of my highschool reunion. Let’s just say multiple bottles of champagne and hamburgers did not make for a cheap bill… But at 3 am it was the perfect end to a fantastic reunion.
JCHokie says
What cha doing in good ol’ Blacksburg? My old stumping ground. Go Hokies!!!

I just discovered Izze! I love the “orange” (I think it’s tangerine?) flavor. So good! And I love ordering room service even though I’ve only had it like 3 times in my 32 years of life, haha.

On our honeymoon, we reserved 2 nights in San Jose Costa Rica, after we’d spent 8 days on the coast. Well, San Jose was definitely sketchy, and since we’d heard of muggings and robberies by gunpoint just down the street, we hid out in our hotel room for 2 days and ordered room service several times. Sometimes it’s totally justifiable 🙂
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
That drink sounds yummy and the bed luxurious! Have fun 🙂

Chocolate is not naughty, it’s just chocolate. Enjoy yourself and don’t promote food guilt.
KathEats says
C’mon guys, do you really think the naughty was guilty over 5 chocolate chips? The naughty refers to the fact that I picked the ‘good stuff’ out of my trail mix. Like a kid picking marshmallows out of his Lucky Charms
JessicaE says
Haha when I was a kid I’d eat all the cereal part of the Lucky Charms first and then eat the marshmallows by themselves.
Andrea @ The Skinny Chronicles says
I LOVE hotel room service. It’s the best after you’ve been traveling and are too tired to go to a restaurant and sit up straight for an hour!
Liz says
I agree with the, “so naughty” comment, please don’t promote feeling bad about eating chocolate. Come on.
KathEats says

Heather @ Run Eat Play says
Love the big fluffy pillows! I stayed at a hotel last year that had a pillow menu! Isn’t that cool?! I didn’t want to order a $10 pillow, but I still thought that it was cool!
Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says
That salad actually looks pretty impressive for room service!
I haven’t ever had an Izze esque before. I actually looked for a “single” one at Whole Foods this weekend, because I didn’t want to commit to a 4-pack. No such luck…
