I am having such a fun time with creative settings for my lunch posts! Turning lemons into lemonade
Today was all about the elements: grass, herbs, brick, stone, ants.
Lunch begins with a Four Leaf Clover Sandwich on Flax Oat Bran topped with red pepper, spinach, and curry honey hummus.
Cantaloupe in a rainforest of mint
I brought the herbs straight into my lunchbox
Greek yogurt with a tsp of Crofter’s and some pecans
The fun Sagaform spoon to dig in!
Packed afternoon snacks. A Bora Bora bar and a prune (to be eaten when my mouth gets bored)
Humpday already!!!
Jenn (www.j3nn.net) says
Love those buns!! That sandwich looks awesome. And so does that yogurt!! Wow, I have to get some Crofters. 😀
Love the spoon, too!
Jenn
Freya @ Brit Chick Runs says
I have never had a prune – they look like inferior versions of dates to me (I have a love affair with dates!! Fresh or dired, I eat them ALL). What do they taste like?
Love the melon in the nettles 🙂
izzlecanoe says
The melon is among mint leaves………..
Kath says
They’re kinda like giant raisins. And dates are superior!
Caitlin says
Kath, Thanks to your blog I have a new-found appreciation for sardines! I also just came across this article and thought of you!
http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/food/the-1-food-you-should-eat-and-probably-dont-1285090/
Kath says
Yums! I really hope that’s not true about them ALL coming from overseas 🙁
Caitlin says
unfortunately, I think it may be true. I remember reading an article a few weeks ago about shutting down the last U.S. plant that produced sardines! crazy!
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
pretty spoon! i have been craving prunes lately! tj’s makes an unsulphured kind now.
Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin says
haha I love the settings where you take your lunch photos! I do love that spoon – I am on the market to get some cute ones myself!
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
LOVE yogurt with preserves and nuts! i like mine with cherry preserves (like crofter’s) and walnuts…holy yum 🙂
Ann @ Appalachian Appetites says
Love the mint addition! Enjoy!
Food Makes Fun Fuel says
I definitely need to get mint this Summer for our herb garden. I just love it! And it’s great for raw desserts
jaclyn@todays lady says
How unbelievably cute is that prune!!! I love your lunch post pictures <3 They all look so pretty!
Jessica @ How Sweet says
Those buns look so good. How I wish we had Great Harvest!
Lisa C. says
So creative! Awesome! I especially love the ‘cantaloupe in a forest of mint’ lol
Meg says
The hungry ant just cracked me up 😀
Enjoy your lunch and hump day! I can seeee the weekend coming!
Ameena says
I love how much effort you put into taking photos for your blog. I can be really lazy about it but I can see how much you enjoy what you do!
Morgan @ Life After Bagels says
Well I wish we had as much green at our house. It’s still freezing here and our attempts at getting new grass growth has been unsuccessful.
caroline says
Caitlin I saw that article on Yahoo also… seems mighty coincidental if you ask me. I think the author might be a KERF reader!
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
Lovely setting! And your posts keep reminding me that I need to eat the cantaloupe I have in my fridge right now! 🙂
Wendy says
It says a lot about you that you brought one prune.
For that, you have been added to my blogroll!
Kath says
What does it mean!?! I dont’ get it!
wendy @ ABCs and Garden Peas says
It shows great self-control and appreciation of the prune to be able to eat and enjoy only one! It’s like eating one Hershey’s kiss, or one potato chip.
I used to be a “devour the bag” kind of girl with everything. Glad I’m over that!
P.S. I learned to put a tsp of preserves in my yogurt (and oatmeal) while I was pregnant. I had gestational diabetes and it was a great way to control my sugar!
Lisa says
That’s an interesting looking spoon. At the risk of sounding ignorant…is it better than a normal spoon or just for show?
Kath says
I don’t know if it’s better, but it was fun to eat!
Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) says
I love seeing fresh food in the great outdoors–eating outside is one of my favorite things about warm weather.
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
Haha, this is so adorable Kath! Makes me laugh every day. That cantaloupe looks SO good right now!
Wendy @ ABCs and Garden Peas says
I’m wondering about the spoon, too. Would that make a good baby food spoon? All I can find is plastic.
Kath says
The wide end would be pretty wide for a baby’s mouth. Have you tried looking for condiment spoons for baby spoons?
wendy @ ABCs and Garden Peas says
Good idea! I never thought of condiment spoons! I bet my Mom has some…
I can’t find a decent cup that isn’t plastic, either. Toys are tough, too. Why does it seem the whole world is made of yucky plastic!?
Midgetkeeper says
Sun fun pictures!
Lana says
I wish I was a daring as you and able to try different things. I am such a look, texture and smell girl that it stops me from eating and drinking alot of things. Any suggestions for helping me try new health things?
Kath says
I gotta be tough love and say just TRY them!!
Lana says
I really have a hard time with this. It is so bad that I do not even eat seafood. Sardines would never happen. I used to be able to eat tuna but I can not even do that anymore. I eat mainly chicken, some pork and very little red meat. I am not daring enough to try different veggies so I stick with the things I know I like. The one good thing is that I truely love salad. I have on every single day for lunch.
jen trinque says
I love the pic of the cantaloupe in the mint! You definitely are getting your creative on! And the board that the food was all on, that was beautiful.
caronae says
This lunch is too cute! I love the mint field and how you added some to the cantaloupe! I love eating lunch outdoors; it’s so refreshing 🙂 Happy Wednesday Kath!
Claire says
I wish I could be as creative with your lunch settings, love it! The aunt cracks me up and those rolls from GH look so great, I may have to head over to our local one and see if they have them.
Jil @ Peace, Love & Munchies says
hahaha i laughed when i saw “a hungry ant!!” 🙂 this looks divine.
Jenny says
That is a seriously beautiful lunch! Only you would add herbs to melon- I love it!
Kelly says
Saw this article on the front page of yahoo and immediately thought of you!!
See if you can guess what the food is??
http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/food/the-1-food-you-should-eat-and-probably-dont-1285090/
Kath says
Yum!
Mary says
Your posts always make me smile, Kath.
The hungry ant wants to be near your food so maybe he can be near you. You’re such a positive person that you generate good vibes I guess :).
runnerforever says
Your pictures are always so pretty. Yay for humpday!
Veggielady4life says
This looks like a sandwich I make, but I use Earthgrains thin buns. I love your melon and mint! So fresh!!
Ashley J says
Beeeautiful presentation! 😀
Ashley says
WHY have I never thought to put a spoonful of jelly in my yogurt!!?? I adore pecans as well..what a good idea!
Mastering Public Health says
I’m a big fan of Bora Bora bars. Organic and vegan = all good stuff. They’re a superior version of KIND bars, in my eyes. They have a ton of great and unique flavors, but favorites include Paradise Walnut Pistachio (pistachios in a bar — rare!), Tribal Cinnamon Oatmeal, and Sesame Cranberry Almond. They also have one or two Whole-Foods-exclusive bars that you can only get there and aren’t even on their web site, including Quinoa Apricot, which was fantastic.
Heba says
I love the creative pictures – I can tell you’re using a good camera! 🙂 Oh, I used to feed ants during lunch when I was in elementary school (haha- I was a big dork).
Shelly says
LOL @ the ant!!! Love it 🙂
Simply Life says
That bread always looks so good!
Amber K says
The sandwich looks fantastic! Well, your food always does. =)
Meg @ Be Fit Be Full says
I totally thought that spoon was a shoe horn at first. Now that would have been getting creative!
Louise says
Looks like another fantastic lunch! 🙂
kate says
I love photographing food outside. Its gorgeous scenery & you cant beat the lighting!
Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life says
I love all of your creative photo settings! They make your already yummy looking lunch look even BETTER! (And that hungry ant was hilarious!) 😉
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
I loooove that spooon!!!!!
Sarah (OC2Seattle) says
Great setting – love the mint and how you combined it with your cantaloupe!
Stacey@http://stacey-healthylife.blogspot.com/ says
The yogurt is so simple. Why haven’t I thought of adding Crofter’s to my plain Greek yogurt. I’m doing now.
lisa says
Yum! That looks like my kind of lunch. I found some great pita-type breads the last time I was in Canada, and have been eating them with cream cheese as part of my lunch this week. There are all kinds of flavors, like apple cinnamon, muesli, and cranberry orange. The sweetness almost makes them taste like dessert! Fun photos too, Kath.
Kim says
The clover and mint are so pretty! NYC’s still trying to figure out what season it is… though I’m hoping it picks springtime once and for all very soon. 🙂
Kellie says
I really wish we had a great harvest. The bread always looks so good.
Lisa @ bakebikeblog says
oh that mint bush is too delightful 🙂 LOVE IT!!!
Wei-Wei says
Loving the mint addition from the garden – is it clean though? o.O
I had pecans for the FIRST time yesterday! Insane, I know. They’re delicious! Although my favourite nuts (teehee) are still almonds and walnuts. Meh!
Happy Humpday! 🙂
Wei-Wei
Hannah says
That spoon looks like it’s floating in mid-air – the magic of Crofter’s, right? 😀 And that single-packaged prune.. that makes me think so much of Japan and its obsession with packaging everything!
De says
I so enjoy looking at all your good food – and I LOVE that cute little mosaic table of yours. Did you make it yourself?
Katie says
It’s been snowing in VT for the past 2 days! It finally got back up to 47 degrees here! Very unusual for this time of year though, even in VT!
